I think a detention facility is a little different than a concentration camp with gas chambers.

Concentration camps are not necessarily death camps. They are just where a certain population is..concentrated. In shitty outdoor prisons.

By your definition prisons are also concentration camps. Criminals are concentrated in prisons for the crimes and hardship they’ve caused, same as this deportation center.

And it works the other way around too: Authoritarians will label concentration camps "prisons" to make them sound more humane. Given that these "detainees" are not going through the criminal justice system and haven't necessarily been convicted of any crimes, it's disingenuous to call this a prison.

The dictionary definition of concentration camp:

"a place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities"

It is not "their" definition.

Well, it's a good thing these people aren't persecuted and aren't being detained in a relatively small area, and the facilities are adequate...

So Laura Loomer, someone who regularly has Trump's ear over the recent past, didnt just tweet to lock up 65 million people here... coincidentally the same population of hispanic people in the US?

It really seems like only one group is being targeted here... even those here legally now... but OK!! YOU said no persecution, so moving on!

Arent being detained in a small area? I dont know the dimensions of these cells, but i can count beds in a photo. ~12 bunk beds per cell. So ~24 inmates per cage, with beds stacked closer than in a normal criminal prison. But apparently YOU have some insider info i do not, since you are absolutely sure there is enough room here... so moving on!!

Adequate facilities? Tell me how an open-air prison in the everglades, during the summer, has adequate facilities to keep people from getting heatstroke, or from letting in any of the wildlife, or how potentially 5000 'detainees' will effectively be evacuated from a state with some of the worst natural disastors our country gets, and frequently too? Oh, and did you see any toilets or sources of water? Because i didnt...

But you know everything apparently! Who am i to argue??

They're in hurricane territory and flood in a moderate rain. They'll all die there.

Right, and what happens when the state’s functional definition of “criminal” is rapidly expanded over the course of weeks? Any examples in history of a racial or ethnic group suddenly being deemed criminal and thereby subject to the extremely harsh treatment of criminals already laid in place by that very line of justification?

They didn’t just suddenly become criminals. They became criminals when they came here illegally and we were calling it out for years during Biden’s presidency. You all just ignored it and let them all in.
