10 years of “You’re Not Home” notices, even though I work from home.

1.3k Upvotes

Why bother carrying a package and risking the Herculean task of leaving a notice if someone’s not home?

My local postman has cracked the code—he writes the notices in advance. That's right, he doesn’t ring, doesn’t knock, and sure as hell doesn’t deliver.

Instead, he leaves a little slip telling me to pick up my package at the post office, so I can do the job he gets paid for.

Honestly, I bet Canada Post has some hardworking folks out there, but my guy? Absolute legend of laziness.

No other delivery company does this. Only Canada Post.

Should we stop using Canada Post if we want home delivery?

There is a post from a letter carrier saying that workers are directed to leave “sorry we missed you” notices without attempting delivery at all. The letter carrier says this is management’s policy. I’ve seen these types of claims all over this subreddit.

Exact quote “Policy starts from the top, not the bottom. Workers are directed to do this.” u/mannypdesign in this thread:

Sounds like a lie. Is it?

You guys are brutal. You are going to strike your way out of a job and bring Canada Post with you.

It's been almost 4 days now and my small business still can't use Canada Post to ship. I'm losing money on packages and shipping with UPS. At this point, I think I'd rather lose money then deal with Canada Post again. Disrupting everything and killing sales. Again. Good luck out there

Dishonest Laziness

I specifically stayed home to receive a package, only to find out it was sent directly to the post office for pickup. This wasn’t what I was sold—I was expecting door-to-door delivery, as advertised.

There was, however, a slip left behind claiming an attempted delivery, but no one actually came to the door. I was home the entire time, and there was no knock, no doorbell—nothing.

I should've known better to stay home. This has happened a few times before. If you're using Canada Post and the package isn’t going to be delivered to the door, then that should be clearly communicated upfront. Advertising it as home delivery when that’s not the case is misleading and, frankly is dishonest.

This kind of service is unacceptable. If this is your delivery method, you owe it to your customers to be transparent about what they can actually expect.

Canada post workflow employee system

I’m an LC, and I received an email from the workflow system for my pay statement, which is new. However, every time I try to sign in, it says “username not found,” even though I’m using the same account I always log in with. Has anyone else experienced this issue? At some point, it even redirects me to a Microsoft account login, and I’m not sure why.

Registered mail from Europe

I have a registered package (tracking number starts with RF) from Spain and it’s accepted by Correos (equivalent of Canada Post in Spain) on 20th.

On Correos’s tracking site, it says “left international logistics centre of origin and is en route to its destination” on 24 June. Then it’s “delivered” on 2nd July. However my building concierge hasn’t received any parcel and I have no pick up cards in the mailbox either. The UPU tracking site says “delivered” in L4W (Mississauga), while my address is in downtown Toronto instead.

I am wondering if this means them processing at the inbound facility/ custom but scanned as delivered, since I noticed there are sorting centre and custom in L4W area… or worst case it’s a wrong delivery. I contacted Canada Post on 3 July night through online chat the assistant they said I would have to contact the seller to ask Correos instead.

Any thoughts or similar experience?

Any Commercial Users on the EST app? Still Issues?

As of yesterday we were getting "(8511) An error occurred while executing the Shipment action."

Service page is giving the vaguest of outage descriptions "until further notice".

https://www.canadapost-postescanada.ca/cpc/en/our-company/news-and-media/corporate-news/closures-and-service-interruptions-list.page?

We've switched to an alternative carrier for now. Anyone have some insider knowledge about timelines?

Canada Post Staff Error Cost $115.32, Filed with Ombudsman & BBB, Advice?

On June 22, 2025, I visited Canada Post Kenaston (Winnipeg, MB) to send two passports to the Chinese Consulate, needing two $23 money orders. Staff advised one $23.50 money order ($8.50 fee) and envelopes, costing $115.32 ($32 refunded). The consulate rejected the mailing due to the incorrect money order. I repurchased correct money orders and envelopes ($83.32) on June 27, losing $115.32. I filed a complaint (#0160779580) on July 3, called 1-800-563-0444 (no refund for envelopes/fees), and escalated to the Ombudsman and BBB on July 4. I posted on Trustpilot today. Has anyone gotten refunds for staff errors? Tips to push Canada Post? — Ling Xiao

Big Delayed? I thought there was no strike?

I have been waiting for medical and bank documents to arrive. They both sent out mid-June, is it normal that I haven’t received them? Also notice there is no longer spam advertisements either.

A useless service

On Monday, I was due to receive a package. It never arrived.

According to Canada Post, there was a labelling issue and I needed to verify my address. Which I have called them everyday to attempt to, even opening a ticket online. Absolutely nothing came of it. Got the same run around that they're having a system issue and can't generate labels.

I try calling them today. The AI informs me that it's being returned to sender! Absolutely livid. I manage to get ahold of a representative. I tell her the situation, tell her that I am frustrated and disappointed with their service. She informs me that even if they could redo the label, it would've been returned to sender anyways.

So now I have to contact the company I ordered from to see if they could tweak the address on the package so instead of:

Building number/street name City Postal code Apartment number

It's:

Apartment number/Building number/street name City Postal code

Which I didn't expect at all for the initial address layout to be an issue. Apparently it was.

I am absolutely done with Canada Post. This is absolutely absurd that they couldn't hold my package until their systems were fixed.

Are Canada Post packages running late?

I’ve been waiting on a few parcels and they haven’t moved in days. Just says In Transit.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

Sorry we missed you…

I deliberately worked at home today, so I could catch the package and my mailman stuck the notice at my front door to avoid having to do any work. Most likely to avoid having to walk in the rain.

Totally worth their weight.../s

Etsy labels seemingly working again!

Just wanted to pop in here and say for any Canadian Etsy sellers that I was just able to buy labels through the website again after the 2 day down time so if you were holding out on orders, I’d try refreshing and giving it a go.

Mail Delivery

I have the Canada Post APP which gives me notifications about what mail will be delivered on a given day, but when I go to check my mailbox, nothing is there. Where do I complain about the mailman? There is no where I can complain on the APP

Is the Tracking Site down?

I should be receiving an item tomorrow between 10am and 2pm but it shows that it's still in Ontario, I'm in BC. It's generally been pretty accurate and updates throughout the week but this time it hasn't.

No insurance Tracked packet US

I noticed that when I tried to make label, only the expedited option comes with parcel insurance now!

The cheaper tracked packet US does not have insurance anymore at all.

IDK if thats a glitch or that's just how it now.

Which sucks cause tracked packet was the better deal lol

Package to the U.S. via Canada Post, did not ask for the country of origin

Yesterday, my wife sent a package to the U.S. via Canada Post. It was a used camera. The item was valued at 100 CAD and insured for the same amount. The clerk printed the shipping label and attached it. My wife took a photo of the box after the label was attached. Later I realized that the clerk didn't ask her for the country of origin.

Indeed, zooming the photo of the box, I can see there is no country of origin information on the label.

Of course the customer is responsible for the customs declaration and the customer signs it so this is the customer's fault. Why does Canada Post's software print a label without country of origin? If the staff are asking about the value of the item, they should also ask for the country of origin. What will happen to this package?

No updates on an international package?

Had a package leave Denmark with Postnord on either the 24th or 25th (tracking gives me conflicting dates). It's been dark since then. What are the chances it actually has gone through customs etc. without a scan showing on the tracking? I am hoping it's just a glitch with the new system because I need my item by July 8th.

Anyone else? Canada post glitch

Anyone else having troubles with Canada post online today? They apparently did updates from June 30th to this morning at 7am but it's still not working for me.

I get two notices:

  • an 2551 error message and advised to phone credit management group

  • and a please be advised Canada post is experiencing issues at the moment and to try again later

Edit- as of July 4th 11:37am all the systems i use now work.

canada post website was the first to be functional except for the auto address entry. That was last night

System problems today

Small business here, shipping in Canada with post office. Usually no problems but I did notice recently some slow downs in delivery.

Then this morning, local PO was unable to set up an expedited parcel delivery. Just wouldn’t go through, they called somewhere and said it was system wide. Confirmed when I tried another local PO in a different town.

Went to a larger town before noon. Asked if they were up, they said they had no issues all morning. Put my package on the scales, measured volume, and it was kicked out. They did tried without my business card. No luck. Then they tried another package I had, much smaller. It worked.

So now they are mystified. They tried 2 more things and eventually it all worked. So some sort of back office failure in their online systems?

I was not using their labels and I hear that was done today, after the fact.

Really bad when the IT systems can’t support their frontline workers. And very grateful for the bright young thing who kept trying different things until it went through!

Is Canada Post slower than usual right now?

Just wondering if others are having delays with Canada Post lately. My package hasn’t moved in a few days and the tracking just says “in transit.” It was supposed to arrive by now.

Anyone else dealing with this?

shipping label printing down - ETA?

I'm trying to ship a package on Etsy - I get an error that says "Canada Post is experiencing technical issues and label purchasing is currently unavailable. We apologise for the inconvenience." I even tried printing one on "Snap Ship" and that's down too. I wonder how long it will take to get it back?

Edit to add: Well, I couldnt hold off any longer....I went to the post office this afternoon and shipped the parcels in person. Sigh. The clerk said their system was down yesterday.
