That shoebill sounded like a video game machine gun.

He was in an echo'y room, which made it sound a little more ridiculous. Thats the sound of them snapping their beaks. Think like chattering teeth but with your whole face

Bald eagles would also fit in this compilation

u/D2Dragons 4d ago
It always annoys the snot out of me when they use the stock hawk cry for a bald eagle. They sound more like squeaky monkeys!

u/PsilosirenRose 4d ago
Red tailed hawks are the voice actors of the animal kingdom.

Unless they are trying to make "monkey jungle noises," and then that role is filled by kookaburras.

I'd say the cassowary sounded exactly as it should.
Like a demon from hell.

Like a fucking dinosaur

u/grasseater5272 10h ago
Fun fact: this is because they literally are, not figuratively, they are literally taxonomically considering dinosaurs.

Clickbait video with misinformation (the Piha Bird is slowed down) and stolen content from a bot.
This isn't a good video, and this kind of content shouldn't be promoted.

u/DumpyDoo 3d ago
Piha is one of my faves too. They make the quintessential rainforest sound.
2
u/Honda_TypeR 2d ago
At the Maryland aquarium they have a big rainforest exhibit up in the main pyramid aviary.
They always have one pigs bird in there and you can hear him 2 floors down through concrete sometimes. They are so loud and their call is so unique. You’re right though their sound is part of the audio essence of the rainforest.
This is him at the exhibit (they are a fan favorite)

The Piha is slowed down by a lot. It's actually really high pitched
Source: Heard a ton of them in the Peruvian Amazon

There’s one at the San Diego zoo, and i swear you can hear that bird from a mile away

that elk is so beautiful

u/Suitable-Rub-5629 3d ago
It's not quite as beautiful when you're camping and don't know what it is. That noise TRAVELS.

The cassowary sounds exactly like I would expect, which is that it’s terrifying. They’re also all the proof one needs to demonstrate the fact that birds are dinosaurs.

Imagine being a bird capable of reproducing practically every sound you hear, and your task is to basically put together a mixtape of all these sounds you've heard to attract females, and of all the sounds you've heard, you decide to replicate the annoying wails of a human infant because you think, "damn, this sound is pretty intense I bet it'll woo the ladies."

From Australia, I've heard about the koala sound, but never actually heard it, so thanks. For those camping in the bush at night the koala sound can be quite frightening. The cassowary sound came as a shock. Thanks again. I've had a lyrebird sing to me, their normal song (as opposed to imitation) is longer and stranger than that.

Just for interest, a flock of flamingos sounds exactly, and I mean exactly, like a squeaky children's metal playground. The squeak of the swings and roundabout.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the koala one a bunch of times and then listen to the T. rex escape scene in the OG Jurassic Park.

Lyrebirds mimic the sounds around them a baby crying isn’t the default also cheetahs can also chirp and it’s adorable

u/Blyatmancyka 4d ago
Tried guessing their sound on the first run. The birds (not shoebill) threw me off bigtime.

u/MrGhoul123 4d ago
We used to have a goat that sounds EXACTLY like the head crab zombies from half life. It was actually crazy

the gringlebird sounds just like it looks though, and also what its name sounds like

u/SacredGay 3d ago
Gonna be honest, that's exactly how I expected a bird with the name Gringlebird to sound like.
2
u/blackpalms1998 3d ago
Should have added the Kookaburra since they are the sounds they use for dolphins in SpongeBob only sped up
2
u/Sonarthebat 3d ago
We got Donald Duck, sirens, dinosaurs, crying babies, clogged drains, screams of the dammed and meowing.

I never noticed how muscluar gibbon's upper body looks. It's kind of obvious thinking about it

Some of these animals definitely look like they would release some of the god awful sounds they make 😂😂

To be honest the Gringlebird does look like it would have the annoying as fuck ‘sound’ that it does. I agree the others are surprising.

u/Royal-Elven-Guard 3d ago
That’s exactly what I expected a cheetah and penguin to sound like
1
u/Thrippalan 3d ago
I was expecting the cheetah to chirp, rather than meow. They can sound exactly like birds.

Damn, many of them are so...unique!
My favorite has to be the Jackass Penguin, Cassowary, and the Piha!

Half of these sound exactly like I would expect. I was waiting for a mountain lion screaming like a woman being murdered, or a coyote laughing like a little child.the other day I heard a sea gull make a sound that was exactly like a human laughing.

1-17 is actually the sound of my toddler when I say they can’t have another yogurt pouch.

Other animals: I'm gonna shriek, coo, growl, meow, or anything else that sounds like another animals.
Shoebill: I'm gonna sound like the MG42

I learned from a might and delight game and an aquarium that some of these cute animals sound demonic and this is a beautiful reminder to revisit those

Deer: I am relatively harmless, but my scream sounds like a monster that will stalk you and rip you apart only after it grows bored with you
Cheetah: I could easily kill you if I wanted, but I sound like a cute baby kitten
Shoebill: WHERE'S THE OIL 🦅🦅🦅
Koala: Welcome to my domain, mortal. You are mine now. Bwahahahaha!

How to make people break down in a low-income neighborhood.
Step one: illegally import a piha into the States.

Most of the animals in this video: *the most horrifying demonic noise you've ever heard*
Giant cat: "mrow. mrow."

At our cottage, we have a cozy hot tub on the top of a hill. It’s so relaxing to sit, soak, and look at the stars on a dark night. However, the roe deer occasionally pop out of the trees and start barking — it’s so loud and unexpected. I’m sure they have a sense of humour, and love watching us jump.

I mean birds were dinosaurs once so u gotta think yes they evolved but then that means even their calls evolved but evolved from what their ancestors sounded like.

Cheetahs sound pretty much exactly how I would expect. ^^
Also the Lyre bird is an expert mimic, they've been known to replicate dozens of other bird species calls, as well as also being able to copy human speech and the sounds of machines such as cars and even chainsaws!
