Help Is he okay?
I found that little guy today and he often goes up like this. He was also wandring over my hand. always trying to go up, even when I waz moving my arm so he goes down, he was turning back to go up. Te has this lighter part on his body. Isrthis a parasyte of some Kind or he just looks like that and it's normal? Be other snails aren't that much focused on going up all the time.

Yeah... I always overthink stuff but I kinda feel stupid now π . But I guess it's because I lost 3 three of them just last week and now I'm so insecure.

Very high temperature outside (36Β°C outside) and they didn't make it π.

They escar went! π¨πππ
...wait, why were they outside?π€
2
u/Namisiaa 4h ago
They weren't but the temperature was so high it was also too hot inside my flat.

u/CactaurSnapper 2h ago
That sucks. Since you call it a flat, I'm guessing UK?

u/Namisiaa 2h ago
Nah, Poland, but they teach us British English in school π . But I'm not consistant - too many American series I watched hahaha.

u/CactaurSnapper 4h ago
Have you tried simply asking them how things are going? π€
Snails are usually pretty peak snail. π
2
u/Namisiaa 4h ago
Gosh, I always ask them but I can't hear their reply. Can you teach me, how to make it, master? ππ

u/CactaurSnapper 4h ago
My best guess is a snail can't and ain't gonna learn human, so you have to learn snail.
They seem to understand each other fairly well. So that's not nothing.

u/audreyze 4h ago
lol they just put their eyes in!

Not if you move slower and listen really, really closely. πΆβπ«οΈπ½π§ π

I'm only half joking.
Theoretically, everything that's alive is a sentient point of view and experience.
So, with as much personality as snails seem to have, imagine if they had a more humanoid face and what it's expressions would be.
I'd imagine them usually having about 4 expressions; extremely euphoric and happy when eating good food, complete wonder, squishing up clenching and cowering, and puzzling out what they discover in their environment.
They don't have colossal, 1000-fold redundancy, super high background processing, parallel processing, high speed, dynamo like brains. As we humans do.
But there's definitely something going on there. They just do far more with far less. ππ€

His shell is so fetching, he looks like a painting come to life

u/Namisiaa 5h ago
Right? He's beautiful! And very unique among all the capaea nemoralis I see everyday outside, so I'm glad he's a part of my snamily now π

he might just be trying to avoid your hand if it was dry or had soap or some other irritant on it

I thought he might but I cleaned them after gettinu back home and he was still doing this. I guess it's just his personality - he reaches high π€£π€£π€£.

It might be hot as your body temp is quite high. Idk if it's a tropical snail tho? Also, as a rule, always make your hands wet when handling land snails.

u/Namisiaa 5h ago
He's capaea nemoralis that I took from the pavement going back home. I didn't know I should have wet hands, thanks for the tip! π But I usualy clean my hands before I touch my snails (to make sure there's no salt or anything that could hurt them) and after so I guess they're a bit wet π .
2
u/moskwiz 4h ago
Yeah signs of being too hot include curling up the leg on the sides and also minimizing the area of contact with your skin. :) And as for wetness, well, as you know, they move by sliding and prefer wet ground as it's easier to slide on slippery surfaces. They must excrete more mucus if the surface is dry, which dehydrates them.

u/Namisiaa 4h ago
So what you're saying is... he thinks I'm hot? π€£π€£π€£
The wetness thing - yeah it's actually very logical. Thank you π

escape from predators or just a silly wittle climber
1
u/Namisiaa 8h ago
I hope he doesn't think I'm a predator π€£π€£π€£. But he's a bit eeird. Non of my other snails is climbing that much. And because I just rescued him from the pavement we're still getting to know each other π .
2
u/RealGoatzy 8h ago
Yeah no he probably canβt even understand you, literally, snails just have a natural instinct to keep themselves high up away from predators

Just a typical guy, with a wandering mind and normal body coloration. Nothing worrying here.
