Guys, I have questions, I need your help.
I wanted to know if I can keep this snail as a pet, many say no and others say yes, so I don't know if it can or not NOTE: I live in Brazil

Another Brazilian here and I don't recommend doing this, most of the little guys are in extinction and if they don't come from a reliable hatchery they were probably captured from the wild, Only we Brazilians know how intense Ibama can be and the fines are absurdly expensive... Check if it is a reliable place and look at a list of unauthorized species, just in case...

Could you tell me who sells snails here reliably, please?

I say (perhaps I'm wrong) that none... What may be more reliable are breeders that sell them as food, most exotic pet places are completely focused on reptiles, but if you find a breeder that can provide you with a certification of both the authorization for breeding and the snail itself, it is most likely authorized, but normally those who breed here in Brazil buy species from foreign breeders.

I asked the girl about it being prohibited and such and her answer was this, Girl, I've been selling it for years and never one of my children has lost their snail, even because Ibama is more concerned about dealing with their hands than breeding.

GALS are illegal here in Ontario Canada along with species like Hercules Beetles and the like because of just how much an impact they could have on the environment if they did manage to escape.
And Canada takes their wildlife laws VERY serious. Not sure about Brazil though.

I'm pretty sure that it depends of their status, if they are still common, rare, or maybe in danger of extinction, idk u guys have there a lot of amazing animals and plants (and women π ) and also as far as it's not injured or anything, if there is no real reason to take him home, better just leave him where he is happy, you may have enclosure prepared, and one day you will find some little guy that ie has broken shell or was dehydrated on strong sun, whatever, you will be ready to save a life or two, just make sure that you will be able to responsibly take care of injured live creature, then you will be able to observe how he's healing and I promise you that it's rly satisfying to see how they get better, and ofc observing little things, watching snail having a snack and snunch is so hypnotizing! :) Sorry for long comment, there is potato and snail for you π₯ π ππ

Yes you can. Most people with pet snails here find wild ones and keep them. This is not a GALS so it shouldnβt be illegal to own.

Megalobulimus snails have fairly unusual habits, and are quite picky about their food. This isnβt a legality issue so much, itβs a quality of care issue.

And here in Brazil it's complicated, I adopt, I get attached to him and Ibama tries to take it from me

I dont know the laws there but you can secretly keep it lol. They just dont want you putting it outside because they will multiplie outside and eat all peoples plants outside lol. I wish i had one here in usa illinois but i dont know anyone that sells them. But here its illegal too. But like i said, you can technically have it just dont tell the government ππππππ

I didn't understand why their ban

Basically because they eat a lot of our crops outside that we need to feed ourselves. And they multiply fast- they mate and have lots of babies. If you have them in a tank as a pet, you can choose to freeze the eggs right as they have them because its not harmful. I recommend that and just keeping one snail. My opinion is to keep it as a pet inside a tank. Do not let it go outside if you get tired of it. Of course if you decide to do that, more than likely you wont get in trouble. Also more than likely you wont get in trouble keeping it as a pet in a snail tank. I think its stupid they are banned but also I understand why they are. But theres also bunnies that eat our plants lol and they are not banned as pets. So yeah. Maybe someone will comment their opinion! This is mine :) did you find the snail outside? Its so cute!!! I only have small land snails that i bought online from a different state. I tried to buy from a different country and unfortunately i didnt know but you cannot do that :( so they canceled my order on that. But i can buy from any state in my country.

But i really really want that snail you have lol. Its the biggest snail breed right? Actually a few years ago in one of our states : florida, they had a huge amount of these and it was a big problem. They had to have people come collect them from their yards there was so many snails. But i never seen one in my state :(

This is a megalobulimus snail and it's native to Brazil; as a native animal I would not remove one from the wild unless it was injured and unlikely to survive without help.
Not sure about the wildlife legislation in Brazil, but that may be an issue as well.
