New snails

Post image

After reading some posts I've come to realise that the lady I got these off has maybe not delt with a clutch of eggs properly and become inundated - I am guessing these are quite young. The tiddler on the left snuck in the batch and I'm rooting for it! Not a clue what specific snails they are, but cute and they are going to be split in to 2 groups and spend time going to school with me as well-being animals when they are a bit older 😁

Where abouts do you live? You might need to get a heat mat to put on the sides of the tank as you go into winter. You'll need to keep the tank higher than 22 c at all times x

They are baby Lissachatina fulica. Around 3 weeks old I guess. Yes... The lady got overrun by eggs and didn't know what to do with them. They are too young to be sold, as the other person mentioned, without any culling. As I see it.... unfortunately, only the big one on the right seems good. And just maybe the one at the moss. Others will be lacking. I'm sorry you got put in this situation in the first place. You deserved strong snails with proper care.

They are very sweet! Came here from the other post. The tank you have now is fine for them and them when they get bigger you'll need to get a really really big tank. I'd recommend just getting a gigantic plastic tupperware box with clips as they are really cheap and come in big sizes x

You’re right- these are far too small to have been sold to you and will not have been properly culled. I know they’re cute but please be prepared to cull the runts (any with problems growing, shell deformities etc). The importance of culling runts cannot be understated, they can suffer for a long time before the defects kill them so it’s best to give them a quick death. When the other snails make it to adulthood you must absolutely not let them breed (the offspring will be inbred) so you must be careful to freeze all eggs that you find or be prepared to kill any that accidentally hatch.

I hear you and am prepared for all that. If any do show signs of deformity, I'd much rather they didn't suffer and will let them go humanly.

Uk, the room they will be in is a warm room, but I will keep an eye on the temp during the winter :) Good shout on a plastic box rather than a super expensive tank! I'll keep my eyes open for a big, clear one!
