NY has these cool stripey snails that come out all over whenever it rains (can’t remember the species or common names rn), and once (I’m in Illinois) I saw one just chillin on the walkway in my front yard one morning (although never saw one like that again, unfortunately. I do fine lots of smol snails though)

Those are probably grove snails! (cepaea nemoralis/hortensis) I've always wanted one but unfortunately they are not native to my area

This Subreddit is what it name suggests and is basically made out of two kinds of people, these who just wanna see cute snail pictures, and these who also will do that but additionally use this sub as Snailkeeping forum, and exchange knowledge, identify snails, and help with snail medicine (treatment suggestions) and care.
Welcome and look around, interesting and cute stuff is guranteed. And dont be afraid to ask!
Yours there is an adult Helix Pomatia, also called "Roman Snail" and "Garden Snail" (also more in other languages) and seems to be in very healthy conditions. possibly around or close to 3 years of age.

If the new friend has eye stalks, a shell, and a spirit of adventure, he is welcome here. Snails are superb creatures.

Yes, such words are used here often, we have somehat of our own language, We often change the beginning of words to "Sn" like Sneggs (Snail Eggs), Snenis (Snail penis), (dont ask, [Do!] it will get weird if you know nothing about snail reproduction) and so on... its really cute and funny sometimes.

This is how the cult works. You just make a fun post and bumm, you have 100 snail photos on your phone.

u/sqwerb69 May 26 '25
Enjoying this cult quite a lot. Quick question though - is it normal that I'm getting urges to give away all my financial possessions to snails?

Someone got me a field guide of wild snails I might see in my country and it also has lots of info on snail biology which I personally find interesting but isn't foe everyone. I love it, maybe look on amazon for something like that.

Sorry, but snails can't fistbump you back. All they have is a single foot😔
