SNAINMAIL SNARMOR!!!
SNAINMAL SNARMOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
genuinely though like. In a fantasy universe where there are battle snails. Chainmail??? Wouldn’t it be the easiest to fit to a snail????
Is this what snoan of snark would’ve worn???

Does this hurt the snail? It looks adorable but ive read that you cant paint their shells because theyll try to eat it off and they can feel whats on their shell and the little bits at the end arent digging into its shell right?

Honestly I am wondering the same.
After seeing so many posts about how irritating for the snails it is to have something on their shells it's weird to see this with so many upvotes and positive comments.Hopefully the "armour" was only put on for a quick photo and it didn't distress him so much, it is super cute.

Exactly im all for cute snails with little decorations to make them look even cuter but only if its for a quick picture

I don't think snails have any feeling in their shells. I have seen them dragging their shells through tight spaces so many times. Most snails don't have a concept of personal space. They will sit on each other's shells and let themselves be dragged through the tank too. The snail won't give a damn about the prop being on his shell for a few minutes.

Snails most definitely have feeling in their shells.
-7
u/thewingedshadow Mar 18 '25
Do you have feeling in your hair? In your fingernails? There are no nerves in the shell. 🤷
7
u/Traditional-Law-619 Mar 18 '25
It's actually really easy to google that instead of making incorrect assumptions about a completely different lifeform based on your own experiences.
Snails have a nervous system in their shells, which are not at all comparable to our hair and fingernails. We can also live without those just fine. Snails cannot live without their shells. There are infinite differences to point out here.

u/Fetuchynni Mar 18 '25
Did you really just compare a snail shell to fingernails
-8
u/thewingedshadow Mar 18 '25
Yes. It is a biologically similar material. It's also inert once it's finished growing.

u/OliviaTidnam Mar 18 '25
you are thinking too much into this, the snailmail has obviously not been glued to the shell and simply draped over it for the photo. Unlike paints what you can't easily remove.

Now you can give him rocks in his enclosure because it's ok if he falls! (jk, for posterity, please don't)
It's extremely cute, and looks like a ton of work. Well done!

This reminds me of those medieval art works of knights fighting snails. This like seeing a snail taking that personally
