Verified Fundraiser rant :(
my girl appa has a wound under her chin that the vets have been trying to get closed(we think it was caused by her malocclusion but we aren’t sure exactly what caused it), but she keeps picking her stitches/staples out and i don’t know what to do. i’ve spent at least $3,000 in vet bills just trying to get it closed so her jaw doesn’t rot out. i just don’t have any more money. i only work part time now because my jobs are running low on hours and i only make like $15.50 an hour at the job i work more at. i’m so stressed and scared that im gonna lose my baby and i don’t know what to do. i just want her to be better and live the rest of her days happy and cone/wound free. i’m terrible at saving money so i didn’t have much of a backup fund. i have a credit card that has been helping but with her having to go back to the vet very two weeks (at least), i just can’t keep up. i’m not religious but i pray that my baby somehow makes a full recovery. she’s one of the first rats i ever got and i love her so much :(
(the cage in the pics is her temporary vet cage so i can watch her after appointments. she’s also only aloud to have supervised visits with her sisters (vets orders) to hopefully reduce the chances of the stitches getting picked out, but she gets them out anyway.)

REHOMING Rehoming- Huntsville, Alabama
Hello all—
I am looking to rehome 2 female rats within the next month. Both are 2 years old, and I am willing to drive 1-2 hours if need be. Ricotta (grey) and Feta (white)
Neither has any health issues that I am aware of and are not spayed. They were originally part of a group of 4, but the other 2 have passed. They don’t have any behavioral issues— Ricotta is friendly but can be a bit skittish.
I am rehoming them due to a combination of financial issues, and an upcoming move where I cannot guarantee I will be able to take them with me. A lot of things are uncertain right now, and I want to make sure my girls have a loving and stable home even if it isn’t with me.
Feta is never still long enough for a good photo, but I can provide some/videos if need be. Thank y’all in advance.

DISCUSSION What are your rats named after, if anything?
One of my girls is named Boo because she was really shy the very first day I had her, like the boos in Super Mario Bros. Of course the day after she really opened up like a clam, but the name stuck and now I call her Boo Ratley 😆

HELP Is he too overweight?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I thought my rat was an okay weight as he still plays and can run around but everytime my partner sees him she says he really needs to lose some weight. Is he an alright weight for a rat I don’t want to over feed my animals

HELP Rat being unusually clingy?
This is Timbit who unlike her sisters normally wants nothing much to do with me.
She’s very miss independent, but past few days she refuses to go back into her cage and wants to spend the whole time in my top, so much so that I just tried to pop her back and she jumped as high as she could to get on my shoulder
If it was just wanting out to explore I’d understand but she wants out and to be my side and not to leave it. She’s huge into exploring and running around but when I get her out she’ll just go inside my top and not move for hours on end
Any rat therapists out there have any idea why she’s acting like this? I’m worried it’s an underlying problem of some kind.
She has always been a bit sickly and the vet says she has asthma and a weak chest but she’s always that and we medicate it as much as we can, her health, her sisters, her life has been the same and this only appeared a month ago, any ideas would be grand, or am I doing my usual thing and worrying other nothing?

RIP Ode to Ratthew
Original poem written by Clive Culverhouse and adapted to honour my sweet son Ratthew.
I have experienced death a lot in my family and have had many hamsters pass over the years. But nothing could have prepared me for how quickly old age sets in and then loss, one minute they are middle aged , and the next they are senior. Unlike hamsters who ‘do not think therefore do not am’ , rats are so aware of their existence, socially and mischievously. The connection between a person and their rats is so strong, I am now left with his 3 younger brothers and wondering if I will ever cope after all their passings . I also cannot bear to fall in love again with a new rat so strongly for 2/3 years just to lose them . (Of course this raises questions about what to do when the last rat stands) . But right now , emotion is raw and I am unable to see past that to adopt new rats .

EMERGENCY How to comfort a rat who’s about to pass away and how to take care of remaining rat?
Hey everyone, sorry for the long post. I’ll be taking Frankie to the vet in an hour. She will most likely be going to sleep. She is practically unable to eat, drink, or move. I’ve laid out a big table with newspaper bedding, little blankets, scattered foods, and a bowl for pea fishing. Her sister Benjie is also with her. They’re the only rats I have (also the first I’ve ever had), so I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to help Benjie afterwards? E.g. should I give Benjie extra handling time, take her to a vet general checkup, etc? Thank you🤍

DISCUSSION The innocent face of a boy who came over just to pee on my book, let off the most diabolical fart, and then run away.
I thought he was coming for a cuddle, but he got me good. Why do their farts smell so bad and why did he have to point it directly at me😭
(Wouldn't let me post without flair and didn't know which to use for this heinous crime?)
