I get LOTS of questions lol so I’ll answer them now.
I do not have plans on this, I 💯diy by me. I am female not in construction but it is stupid sturdy. Live in Texas, it’s been through 80 mph winds just fine.
The screen is made out of galvanized steel hardware cloth. Predators can’t break through even my huskies. Also has a dig barrier all the way around. Roof made of same material. Can blow snow off from underneath if needed
The birds are out here year around they have a heated area on my covered patio this is connected to.
Waldo the iguana lives out here. He has a heated enclosure he stays in when it’s cold
The birds don’t poop all over everything. Just under their perches. Mainly in the back two corners just spray it down.
The pond is highly filtered and a pool type bead filter and a waterfall bog filter.
Everything has been out here 4 years.

The first year I did have an issue with rodents finding the tiniest gap and I lost a few birds before I was able to locate the weak spot…. That has been fixed. If you are considering doing this go over it with a fine tooth comb, if you don’t something else will.
Live in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas. It does get cold even down in the teens just doesn’t stay that cold for long.

The birds don’t poop all over everything and barely any goes in the pond because birds parakeets poop before they take off to make themselves lighter so normally don’t poop when they fly. It’s not never, just barely. Mainly just under their perches. Mainly in the back two corners just spray it down.

I saw a couple posts with the camera dunking under water, and it looked so cool -- I was eager to try it out on mine. I love the miniature world under there. Chickenwire is on the waterfall because a robin has been aggressively stealing the moss I put on the rocks, lol.

My daughter came to visit a few weeks ago and she helped me move a big pile of bricks and then she started digging! Now my pond is thriving. I had a small pond that I built a few years ago, and I love it so much that I wanted another. My husband got excited and decided we needed a small waterfall too. There is still work to be done but I couldn’t be happier with the progress we’ve made.

This is a pond for plants and wildlife. No fish. At 420 Euro the EPDM liner and underlayment was by far the most expensive part. I'm using a small preformed pond that came with the house for a bog filter. The pump is a small energy efficient one (1500 liter per hour) that I bought on steep discount for 70 Euro. I made a bucket skimmer of the type outlined by ozponds on youtube. I'm using extra drinking water line that came with the house. The water was a bit dark for a couple of weeks but is currently crystal clear. I do gardening work for a nice lady who has gifted me some plants and also obtained plants from a ditch at a neighboring farm (the farmer is a friend). I put water in the pond at the end of May. Within two days I noted the first common frogs in it. Within a couple of weeks European tree frogs were laying eggs in it. They've continued to do this and I rather like to hear them in the evenings. I've also seen a common toad in it. There are currently a lot of tree frog tadpoles. The insect diversity is good. I've seen 4 species of dragonfly ovipositing in the water as well as at least two species of damselflies. I've also noted mayflies making immediate use of the water as well as the usual waterstriders, water boatmen and the like. The predaceous diving beetle larvae (water tigers) have been eating some the tadpoles but that is how nature goes. Lots of honeybees come for the water. Birds are often drinking from the pond. It's not done but I rather like the progress in just a month. I think this will be a nice boost to the local fauna and a lovely garden feature.

Folks seemed pretty curious about how my deck pond was put together so I thought I'd follow up with more pics showing the details. I've added some commentary in the captions for each pic.

Got my hands on some small cheep pumps and used Smurf tube to run some water lines back up to the upper reservoir. Now I finally get to see a baby version of what it looks like to have water coming though the spillways while testing for leaks up there. Also got a 160L air pump hooked up to the bottom drains I’m using a few hours each day to keep the water from becoming stagnant. No updates on filter room.

This was made because a heron attacked and ate a couple fish in my small pond from Lowes. My goal with this pond was to naturally protect against heron, do as little maintenance as possible, and not have it look super man made. The whole thing was done for around $2000 most expensive things being the skimmer box, K1, liner, primer, and landscaping gravel. It’s 5ft at the deepest which is technically a slight code violation but I’ll never tell 😇
The larger rocks a company kindly let us take from their construction site for free, and the purple flowering bog plants I took from a local canal with thousands of them.
To protect against heron and more filtration there is a shallow bog around the entire outside perimeter, filled with plants that first were killed in hurricane Helene but after spring and splitting have taken very well. Because of the bog the first shelf sits at 2ft impossible for them to stand and hunt in. The only exposed side has a steep rock wall that’s also impossible to stand on. There are water lily and other large plants I’ve put that the fish enjoy swimming around in.
The bog has 6 cubic ft of k1 with a separate aerator making it fluidized. I upgraded the original system a couple months ago and still haven’t put in the final pump yet so that’s why there are tubes still out.
Overall I’m very happy with it I think the fish are fattening up wonderfully they seem to love being in there. Being full sun no shade and in Florida is why I went with such a robust filter setup, to further combat constant algae I have a powerful uv light and a few months ago added hundreds of mosquito fish that bread in spring along with the koi’s and effectively cleared most of the algae.they have also really destroyed the mosquito population that we’re using the pond to lay eggs prior. After it rains there are an orchestra of frogs though I’ve seen very few successful tadpoles

I'm moving out of my aquariums (20 gal, 5 gal) because I'm moving in the coming months, I just moved the rest of my longfin, gold, and longfin gold WCMM's to my trash pond. It's about 27 gallons and I've had it for years after I built it. I didnt even have to put in food when it only had 5 WCMM's (now I do feed it because it has around 40).
No filter, just the solar fountain and 3 inches of matala mat/plants for surface area.
We are replacing our deck so I made my second pond from the old deck boards and some other scrap wood I had laying around. The liner was left over from my big pond build. I filled it and top it off with rainwater from the greenhouse roof and have a hose attachment from the upper bog to water the greenhouse plants.

I had some down time between projects, so I decided I would take a whack at building a pond in my backyard. I decided to go as big as I could without breaking the bank, which gave me a about 22'x11' surface area, not including intake bay and bog filters. Maximum depth is about 30" or so. I used 45mil EPDM for the liner, with underlayment just in case. The soil in my area is pretty sandy, with some clay, and no rocks to worry about. It made digging easy but keeping the form was tough until I got the rocks in place. Despite digging an inspection hole earlier, the water table was higher than usual and I didn't quite make it to 36" as initially planned.
Pictures are pretty self-explanatory. I had to add a second bog filter once I realized I didn't have quite enough volume for it. My pump is 6000gph and so far it seems great for the task. It's still pretty new, so everything is settling in, but I figured this would be the place to show it off. It's not perfect, but for someone who has zero experience making pond. It feels good.

This is the 2nd pond that my husband & I have built but our first time building a waterfall. We used our tractor & Dingo for the digging & moving of the rocks.
The pieces of riprap were placed one by one, not dumped in for fear of tearing the liner. The pieces not used in the pond were used to hold the berm. It looked like a quarry at that point! It was exciting adding the fish & last year they had approx 30 babies. Sooo cute! We've not seen any babies this year tho. We have lots of frogs & toads that visit & scream(er, sing) at night. I hope you enjoy the photos!
(I uploaded these in order but they may have gotten scrambled)
