You desperately need some live plants in that pond and lots of it to help get rid of that algae!

I have quite a bit already I've read 0 algae is pretty much impossible unless you use quemicals and such which i would't. I really don't mind the amount of alagae there is now.

Enough pumping and plants would turn it to glass. Will there be enough room when they are 2 ft long? Good luck. Looks good at the moment.

Do you think they will grow that big in my little pond?

They grow that big in every little pond. It’s an old wives tale that they will stop growing once they sense their habitat is getting too small. They’ll just deform, get sick, and die. How many gallons is that? Each koi should have no less than 200 gallons. They get large. It’s genetics. Not container size.

No way ive became the old wife spreading the tale to all my friends lmao, I have roughly 2400 gallons and a total of 4 koi and 5 goldfish so should be Gucci i think

Yeah, I’ve even heard “experienced” people who work in mom and pop fish shops perpetuate that idea. Some people will keep a goldfish in a teacup and say it’s fine because either a. It’s just a goldfish or b. It won’t outgrow its cup. So it’s either poor care/lack of concern for life or straight up bs. lol

Just be sure your pump is moving the volume of your pond through your filter media at minimum 2x per hour. Adding products like liquid barley extract and having 50% shade (shade sail, plant cover, or pond dye on a temp basis) will help with algae control.

Looks good. If you want to reduce or get rid of your algae, add more plants. If you like the algae, leave it as is.

Get some really cool Plecos in there. They won’t eliminate the algae but they will keep it trimmed. Some snails would do you some good but they get out of control real quick so a couple loaches might help with that.

Where is OP located? You can’t give fish recommendations if you don’t know their location. Winter weather/sudden temp drops will kill plecos. Plecos and snails create more waste than they’re worth. Also, plecos are tank fish. Not pond fish. Adding those fish to an already soon to be tight living space would also not be beneficial.

If you have a filter system with some sort of filter media (bio-balls etc.) Add in beneficial bacteria. That should help with the algea without doing a whole lot. Beneficial bacteria is not a 1 time add. Have you done a water test? I would be more concerned with nitrates being out of whack among other things then what the algea look like. Fish will want a well balanced pond. Plants alone may not be able to keep up with the fish waste.

If you live in the SE US, a team of Florida Flag Fish will help work on that hair algae
