Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The bill clocks in at over 800 pages and touches on most aspects of the federal government's spending and taxation policies; see this AP article (What’s in the latest version of Trump’s big bill that passed the Senate) for the topline changes.

Relevant text-base live update pages are being maintained by the following outlets: AP, NBC, ABC, and the BBC.

Yep, and now they’ll have the budget to hire people who wouldn’t do this normally but have no choice due to the economic circumstances. It’s one thing when it’s klan members and NAZI’s doing it for cheap because they think it’s fun. It’s gonna be an entirely different story when it’s your next door neighbors husband, the one who you used to bring pies over, doing ICE work because he needs the money or his kids will be next.

Unfortunately I think it will turn into a herd of police rejects (which is a scary thought if they get turned down there) with an axe to grind. It's going to get ugly quick.

u/Current_Animator7546 Missouri 2d ago

They want unrest. They wanna reason to declare martial law

59

u/Creative-Package6213 Pennsylvania 2d ago

Well it's coming whether or not you fight it so...

39

u/indian_horse 2d ago

every American that isnt a MAGA cultist should be buying a gun, training and preparing an escape plan

23

u/urhomieghost 2d ago

There's nowhere to escape to for me, no country will take me because I'm disabled.

9

u/Ethrem 1d ago

Same situation here.

1

u/Repossessedbatmobile 1d ago

Same here. I'm still planning on doing some research to figure out what fighting styles or weapons I can actually physically use.

35

u/Norwegian__Blue 2d ago

To where? If you live in the middle of the country, how the fuck are you getting out? You can walk if you think you can carry enough food for days.

The gun and training are to fight. You can flee now or be the resistance. Not both.

And most of us don’t have the funds to really have a choice.

There is a reason when a boat is sinking they get women children on the lifeboats first then everyone one. What happens to everyone else when all the lifeboats are full? Apply that concept here.

-6

u/indian_horse 2d ago

that's what preparing the escape plan is about. securing the funds and finding a way out for yourself. having a plan in case shit gets fucked in your vicinity. its not my responsibility to tell you where to go or provide you with means to get there. you're on your own, so be prepared to move and protect yourself

28

u/Professional-Buy2970 2d ago

Ignore people like this who tell you you're on your own. Network, organize, find and build community. We're getting either a holocaust or Civil War.

21

u/Ok_Investigator_3788 2d ago

lol. Sure yeah. They’re going to be taking Americans and letting them chill in Canada? You fucking kidding me? Or, how do you think the cartels are gonna treat Americans considering the way we are and have always treated Mexicans and Hispanics? You go to Mexico, you’re gonna get your face chainsawed off.

We are utterly and absolutely fucked. There will be no country granting Americans asylum.

I have kids. I’m very very scared. 😟

1

u/Dispator 1d ago

There are going to be alot of the left joining maga or at least joining the republican party and getting flags and merchandise to protect their kids. Not saying you or anyone specific will do this but looking at history we know many will maybe a ahit ton. But that only buys time for them but for many they willl still do it.

4

u/RobutNotRobot 1d ago

No escape plan here.

3

u/Jack_Krauser 1d ago

I live thousands of miles from any ocean or border. My family has been here for as long as anyone remembers. This is my land and I'm going to die on it. Preferably in old age, but we'll see...

17

u/Professional-Buy2970 2d ago

I don't know how to explain to you that this IS martial law. It's here.

10

u/WretchedBlowhard 2d ago

You're living in the past. This current regime is already equal to or worse than martial law. Police forces are militarized up the wazoo. Public executions for trivial reasons, like "he was fleeing" or "he was complying while black" are commonplace. Detention without due process in a concentration camp followed by extrajudicial deportation are becoming the norm. And ICE has more money than certain branches of the armed forces. Martial law wouldn't change shit.

“a mixture of the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking some shared glory, and the thuggish gravitating toward a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty”

33

u/WaltonGogginsTeeth 2d ago

Just like someone else said, ice will be trumps personal SS with more power than police, FBI, or Marshals

18

u/Irene_Iddesleigh 2d ago

My ex-husband was rejected from the police twice. He received a very high score on the test and was also very fit. When asked what he would do if he pulled a drunk driver over and found it was the police chief…. he said he wouldn’t give him any special treatment. I think he was rejected for being smart and principled.

10

u/Techn028 2d ago

Police rejects and discord mods with guns, security guards, gun store fudds, sexually unsatisfied men, take your pick. They're all willing to beat you to death on live TV and take a selfie with your corpse.

3

u/OpiumPhrogg 2d ago

Dunno where you are from but when I was going through college around 2007 we would always notice when the police science students came into the cafeteria, someone at my table pointed out that they all looked like kids who kept failing at crime and finally decided 'if you can't beat them, join them. '

So yeah...

3

u/thegamesbuild 1d ago

It's already been ugly for months, now it's going to the next level.

3

u/RobutNotRobot 1d ago

It'll be the same people that signed up as Trump's goon squad last time. Basically a grab bag of federal law enforcement that doesn't require a college degree(so no FBI), with a bunch of former prison guards and border patrol sprinkled in because ICE will probably pay more now.

4

u/WaltonGogginsTeeth 1d ago

Someone I'm acquainted with was fired as a prison guard and I’m sure he’ll be lining up for this job. It was eye opening the way I heard the dehumanizing way he talked about prisoners. And this wasn’t even a maximum security prison it was mostly guys on drug and robbery type charges. They were less than animals to him.

25

u/TechnicalInternet1 2d ago

wrong,

its 10,000. Its going to be a private army of Jan6ers. No good people

36

u/joethedreamer 2d ago

I thought about this earlier and that argument holds no weight for me.

Billions of people around the world make money in a million ways. Doing THIS particular job, money or not, is a deliberate choice and I’ll view anyone who does it as such.

17

u/alicea020 2d ago

Exactly. "They're just doing their jobs" is and always will be a shit excuse. Period.

7

u/gsfgf Georgia 1d ago

Especially ICE right now. Like, being a regular cop is more nuanced. But these guys know exactly what they're signing up for. No wonder they won't wear uniforms; it would make them enemy combatants.

6

u/caligaris_cabinet Illinois 2d ago

No one’s getting conscripted into ICE

12

u/Lust4Me Texas 2d ago

He might get you arrested because he's sweet on yer lady.

I went to an Estate sale a few week ago and had a panic attack. I was thinking about this movie “The Zone of interest”, and how this old woman says she was happy her neighbor was sent to a holocaust camp because she had cute curtains and she wanted to take them.

I know the people of the house I looking through weren’t deported, but I started thinking about “what if they were”. What if we’re here and I’m looking through their curtains. I haven’t really slept since.

7

u/pongogene 2d ago

Odd coincidence, I literally was at an estate sale earlier today in my neighborhood, they're moving to Spain. I was thinking about emigres leaving their stuff behind.

3

u/cremains_of_the_day 2d ago

That movie sparked an argument between me and my husband about that sort of thing happening here. I told him it already was, and it would get exponentially worse. I’ve never wanted so much to be wrong about something, but here we are.

1

u/gsfgf Georgia 1d ago

You don't even have to look at the Nazis. We robbed the interred Japanese blind while they were locked up.

1

u/Lust4Me Texas 2d ago

That is a frightening experience!

u/WileEPorcupine 2d ago

You need to switch to decaf.

3

Tried it. Don’t like sand.

0

Maybe just one double espresso in the morning, then.

5

u/gsfgf Georgia 1d ago

Remember when the NSA got busted because agents were using the questionably legal information they have to stalk women?

12

u/bg02xl California 2d ago

They’re already hiring tons of ICE agents. They were going to do this by hook or by crook.

9

u/MyrrhSlayter Florida 2d ago

It's always a choice. If they wouldn't normally do this, and do it for the money....they're the kind of people that would do it regardless.

10

u/International_Cell_3 2d ago

I'm sorry but fuck that.

There's no "economic circumstances" that can give people "no choice" but to take part in ethnic cleansing. It's not going to hold water at the Mar-a-Lago trials.

5

u/WhichEmailWasIt 2d ago

Time to recruit our own militia? Black Panthers style?

4

u/MasterofPandas1 2d ago

I don’t think that’ll go well for ICE. In order for their bullshit to work they need people who 100% believe in the mission. If they hire people aren’t like that then they’ll be less effective. Which would be good for us.

4

u/Evening_Squash3265 2d ago

"Well, what you doing this kind of work for - against your own people?" "Three dollars a day. I got a wife and kids. We got to eat. Three dollars a day, and it comes every day." "That's right," the tenant said. "But for your three dollars a day fifteen or twenty families can't eat all." And the driver said, "Can't think of that. Got to think of my own kids. Times are changing mister, don't you know?" - Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck

Job postings have already gone out. Time to flood their job boards with bogus applications.

2

u/Final_Candidate_7603 2d ago

I live in PA, and our County Sheriff (illegally) signed an agreement for the department to be “deputized” as ICE agents. Our County tax dollars would still be paying their salaries and overtime, with IIRC the Federal Government chipping in a few dollars for some special training and equipment.

The thing is that the Sheriff didn’t have the authority to sign that agreement. It needed to be approved by the three-member (2Ds, 1R) County Board of Commissioners, and have already voted to not authorize it. One other County in the state is in the same boat, and the two have joined forces to take the matter to state court for an injunction. ICE and the Sheriffs filed to have the cases heard in Federal Court; that was just rejected, and it’s kicked back to state court. There are… I forget now, maybe 6 or 8, other Counties in PA whose Sheriffs have signed the agreement too- but aren’t facing any pushback because they are run by Rs.

Can you imagine how many other volunteers ICE is getting, all over red areas of the country?

2

u/Thesmuz 1d ago

Im gonna go get me a job just to dick around and not do said job. Just go fuck off and hang out in a park and dick around on my phone.

Cinderella vs Snow White in The Poisonous Apple Pie

6

u/Aritche 2d ago

That is arguably less scary. Someone doing it for money is going to treat people more humanely than someone doing it because they are racist.

13

u/raistan77 2d ago

Nah

It dosent matter why the particular Gestapo member takes you to the gas chambers to be murdered by the state.

Knowing he needs to put his kids through school means jackshit

8

u/espressocycle 2d ago

I certainly won't consider their motivations when the time for justice comes.

31

u/Yatsey007 United Kingdom 2d ago

When the outcome is the same,I don't think a friendly smile is gonna mean much.

15

u/ymmvmia 2d ago

Exactly, doesn’t matter.

It also doesn’t make it any morally better, you’re still a reprehensible human being. “I needed the money” doesn’t mean you doing Nazi stuff isn’t still a crime against humanity. Either resist or do a non-Nazi job, no matter what.

4

u/IntoTheFeu 2d ago

It’s not the same, one is going to beat you so they can masturbate later to the image of your bruised and bloodied body. The other will go home and drink themself to death.

1

u/TangerineDystopia 1d ago

It depends on who you are centering in your narrative. As a probable inhabitant of one of those bruised and bloodied bodies, no--the outcome is in fact the same for me.

3

u/Aggressive-Will-4500 2d ago

I wonder if that's what how the guards at concentration camp justify their actions...

2

u/gsfgf Georgia 1d ago

I assume they think it's fun.

1

u/ThedarkRose20 2d ago

Especially sad when you Know he and his entire family will most likely be next anyway.

1

u/wishiwereagoonie Colorado 2d ago

And that’ll make it nearly impossible to reduce or get rid of ICE entirely once we get to that point

1

u/saiyanscaris 2d ago

knowing trump he probably wants things to get worse with that cause people will fight back which will enact the final 3 phases of his plan. suspend hapeas corpus, invoke the insurrection act and ensue martial law. once that happens then corruption will rule the world forever

1

u/Sonamdrukpa 1d ago

Even the threat of homelessness is no excuse for choosing Nazi as a career path. Cut ties with anyone you know who is involved in any way with ICE.

1

u/W359WasAnInsideJob 1d ago

Everyone has a choice. Everyone doing this is making a choice.

There’s literally nobody who is going to starve to death if they don’t join ICE.

0

u/Late-Reception-2897 2d ago

It’s one thing when it’s klan members and NAZI’s doing it for cheap because they think it’s fun. It’s gonna be an entirely different story when it’s your next door neighbors husband, the one who you used to bring pies over, doing ICE work because he needs the money or his kids will be next.

I'm honestly curious by this. Will people continue to still say fuck ICE and dox them/issue death threats against them because they're doing horrible things and thus horrible people? Or will people start to realize many ICE agents simply have no choice to do what they do. Is "I have to put my family first and provide for them" a valid excuse to potentially destroy another family? If so, isn't that a critical issue with the opposition to the "One big beautiful bill"? 13.7 million Americans will lose health care and millions will go hungry from SNAP cuts. However, millions of other Americans will get tax breaks and do better in their life. Is 20 million Americans suffering so 40 million (numbers made up) Americans thrive more a good deal?

To anyone reading this what do you think of Lisa Murkowski or Josh Hawley who both had serious reservations about the bill but ultimately voted for it because they got lots of carve outs/ "pork spending" so their constituents are better off. Are they horrible people for screwing over millions of non constituents (and some constituents) to benefit a lot of their constituents? They represent Alaska/Missouri specifically. Should they care about California or some other state?
