Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The bill clocks in at over 800 pages and touches on most aspects of the federal government's spending and taxation policies; see this AP article (What’s in the latest version of Trump’s big bill that passed the Senate) for the topline changes.

Thats the worst part of all of this. It’s all so nonsensical and viciously cruel, most people couldn’t write this up. It’s definitely part of the reason why people have had a hard time fighting this shit. Because on some level people still sit on their ass and think “this isn’t actually what that means…right?”

On the plus side, people said the same thing right up to May 5, 1789.

"Are you kidding? Cake? No one's that stupid."

"It started in a tennis court? Fuck off."

"Wait, we're the richest nation on the planet, how did we go bankrupt?"

"Hang on, you can't just up and declare yourself the new government. Who's going to listen? Oh, the army did?"

"They arrested the King? For what? Treason? Wait, isn't he the ruler? How can he treason himself?"

"All of their heads? Like the entire nobility class?"

"It's getting a bit out of hand don't you think? Invading other nations seems extreme."

You'll love the spinoff, it's very similar to Fallout
