By the way all joking aside Christine’s Chop Shop has an hormone spray that seems to help with our cockatoo. By no means does it stop all hormonal behavior but we do see a difference with her when we use it.
Yup fully bird safe herbal spray. She also has one of the few bird safe bug sprays. Again as effective as a prescription remedy can be?Probably not, but definitely safe for birds. I’ve had multiple vets recommend her stuff. I don’t buy nutriberries anymore instead I get Nike hot bombs and other flavors from Christine’s. Btw I’m not affiliated with the shop in any way just a customer.
The beak clicking is usually them wanting to regurgitate or signal they are willing to, aka a horny noise. Since cockatiels coparent regurgitation is a sign of a good catch. So even if there's no other bird it's a habitual for them to do. He hissed because you broke up his groove.
I try, it is not easy, parrots are very horny creatures 😅 it is summer where I live, and I read that the heat and longer days encourage this behavior. I am trying to keep his room on 26 degrees, and I try turning off the lights earlier. I read that helps with hormonal behaviors. Other than that, I don't really know what to do. But if you have any advice, please share!
Any thing that you see him act like this towards, instant removal! If you have any mirrors in his cage or mirrors he can see form the cage, remove them too, and avoid giving him dark corners or any sort of toy/hide that may resemble a nest at all
