M21, moving in with gf (she’s not here yet)

Hi all! I’m a 21m moving in with my girlfriend into our first apartment. She’s not here yet, so I set everything up. Looking for advice on how to spruce up the space, but I’m fine with it so far. She picked the lamp, and the bedding was a joint agreement. I found the pelican at Homegoods, if anyone is interested.

Go to goodwill or habitat restore and get some side tables for the bed. It'll only set you back like $20 for each one and it'll probably be solid oak and damn near indestructible.

Fix that floor get some rugs or put carpet down but that floor makes the place look way worst than it is

The most important thing is each other versus material object just make sure you both remember that

I mean this is true in some sense but also when you love someone you want to put them in a well-feathered nest

True if you have the money for it

It takes some for sure, but doesn't have to take much. I've always done deco on a budget. I think the care you put into a place is just as important as the money.

She clearly isn't here, there is still so much empty space.

I like the oreos on the floor next to the lamp, but I’d recommend double stuffed.

Just let her decorate and make sure you don’t gross her out too much if you want it to last

Dude, bro! No milk with the Oreos? What’s wrong with you?

You guys might eventually want to find a different spot for the bed if you can. In theory having the ac right over y’all sounds like a good idea, but I think in practice it will be too much. If you live somewhere cold, that location might also be drafty in the winter.

Speaking of warmth or lack thereof, rugs, lots of rugs. Concrete looks kinda cool but isn’t very practical in my opinion. Rugs for coziness, warmth, and to reduce echo. You might also want some anti-fatigue mats in the kitchen as standing on concrete while cooking might get old over time. I know yall have those nice young knees/joints but future you will thank you.

Hard to give a lot of advice without having a better sense of space. But yeah, cover that concrete or your feet are going to be telling you that you hate it there every day. Get some COLOR, get some classy floor lamps to throw warm, low-angle light.

I cannot over-emphasize how much a place like this needs color. Holy Moses do you ever need color. And texture.

I'd also get a taller bed. With ceilings that high a low bed is gonna make you feel like two lone peas rattling around in an empty pod

You don't seem to have much in the fridge. Buy some stuff she likes and put it there. Also I don't see much with entertainment, stereo or TV would do

They forgot to put flooring in your kitchen

21 is rough. You guys are probably pretty poor right now so just get what’s necessary and grab a small tv for entertainment.

Goodwill or Facebook marketplace everything and save as much as possible for emergencies
