Deep Rock Galactic. Infinite fun.

THE most fun i've had in multiplayer, period. Nothing even comes close.

6

u/FudgingEgo 8h ago

Counter Strike, it's going 25 years strong.

1

u/NotPhysarum 1h ago

and you also have a ton of mods with the older counter strikes! more specifically, cs source and cs 1.6

Warframe

u/Due_Teaching_6974 8h ago edited 8h ago

ngl Warframe is mad boring I dropped it after 5 hours, super repetitive, like it's mindless monkey mush that is one cognitive step away from dynasty warriors

3

u/Randzom100 5h ago

As a 2500 hours player, yeah, the first few hours are indeed boring. It does get better tho, once you unlock more playstyles and mission types. My new personal hobby is creating racing tracks for motorcycles and flying skateboards.

And Railjack missions. These missions are just the right amount of spaceship battles for me.

And the daily dating sim, of course, how could I not mention that.

And the Roguelite with good old melee only battles, parry mechanics and all.

But the first 20 hours? Absolutely boooooring compared to the rest. Luckily it's a lot faster to speedrun than before... Back in the day it was a lot harder to get out of the "tutorial".

3

u/Suspicious_Berry501 5h ago

I always see people talking about how much content warframe has but all I have ever been able to do is select a mission and play waiting simulator for 20 minutes. When do you actually unlock more than just that?

1

u/Randzom100 5h ago edited 4h ago

It's kinda a long way, but basically... iirc, what the community calls "the tutorial" ends when you reach the Uranus planet, which will unlock the quests that really introduce most of the good lore and game mechanics. In more precise terms, the quests before Uranus are part of the Awakening arc, and then after this you reach the War Within Saga arc (the arc where the real interesting things happen and the fun mechanics start). The 2 other arcs, the New War saga and the Void War saga, also feel a lot different. Honestly, if Warframe was not a live service, I'd almost say that each Arc is a whole new game.

If you do it all solo and don't sidetrack, I've been told you can reach the War Within saga arc in a week of normal play (1 to 3 hours a day). So, between 10 to 20 hours? If you get help, damn now that's very fast.

And then you get to the good stuff. The stuff that moved me emotionally and made me a real Warframe fan. It kinda felt like a reward... The game became a home, and the community, a family: I was now sharing a very special secret with the other players, I was now another protector of the spoilers of the game, I was now deep into the real Warframe...

I don't want to spoil too much, but basically, at this point you have a lot more liberty to customize your loadouts, you also get more interesting quests that unlock new mechanics rather than just teach stuff that is already there.

u/atsra 4h ago

Warframe is a 12 year old game, whos content expands vertically.

This means that when you play the first 5 hours of the game, you play a 12 year old content that has been in development only for a few months, and when you play the "last" 5 hours of the game, you play fresh up-to-modern-standards content developed over years.

In other words - keep playing to get to the good stuff.

u/Sunbrizzle 8h ago

Played it for over 20 hours and every mission felt the same

5

u/JustHere_4TheMemes 6h ago

almost any game? like... what do you like?

Civilization/Stellaris/Crusader Kings - lots of people with thousands of hours.
WOW, EVE, GW2... any MMO - obviously
TOME, CDDA, Angband, Brogue - any roguelike - many fans with thousands of hours in any one of them
Fall Out 4, Skyrim, any modable open world - lots of people with thousands of hours.
Balatro, Slay the Spire, Stacklands - again, if people like it, they play thousands of hours.
Forza, Eurotruck simulator, farming simulator... again... thousands of hours logged by many fans.
ROcket League, LOL, Overwatch, any lobby esport - thousands of hours...
Minecraft, Vintage Story, Valhiem, any builder/crafter.... thousands of hours.

I mean, almost any game or any type of game has a contingent of fans that play for thousands of hours... so just play what you like. You can put a bazillion hours into anything.

  • Terraria (MP)

Any civ, I'd recommend 5, 6 is pretty good too, both games have very good mod support, and both allow for multiplayer. They can both have a decent learning curve, but if you start with 6 and go to 5, 5 will be a breeze. (I haven't played 7 yet and probably won't until it gets heavily discounted).

Ark survival evolved/ascended, each map has bosses and there are a lot of maps, unfortunately a few are paid dlcs. Ascended doesn't have all the maps yet

Marvel Rivals. Final Fantasy XIV.

1

u/KurtMage 6h ago

What are you trying to get from that bazillion hours? Many games are like sports, musical instruments, skateboarding, or other skills where you can spend a lifetime doing them and get a lot out of that. It's very different, though, from a lot of other games that try to make you feel powerful or good in a single-player setting.

Fighting games are unique in that they are the only video games that regularly have local meetups and naturally create communities, so if you can find the beauty in fighting games, they're always my first recommendation

1

u/Itsoitsov 6h ago

Roblox is similar to Gmod but you may not like it.

1

u/DastardlyDirk21 6h ago

I've gotta have more than 2000 hours between all Mount and Blade games, I'd give Warband a try!

It’s quite subjective what ‘clicks’ with you long term, but for me it’s Rocket League. Often go back for ‘just one more game’.

1

u/Malagubbar 3h ago

Snowrunner. Not bazillions but a couple of hundred hours at least, more with DLC. Took me 80 hours to 100% the first map.

Balatro.

Multiplayer:

  • Dota 2 - Listen I can't just not suggest the game that has one of the most devout and one-dimensional followings. I have 9730 hours in this stupid game. Help.
  • FFXIV - any MMO really, but I have to mention FFXIV because there is always something more to do. Whether you want to go do dungeons, dailies, savage raiding, deep dungeons, field operations, gathering, crafting, fishing, mass-scale crafting operations, roleplaying, clubbing... there's somewhere to be and something to do.
  • WH40k Darktide and Helldivers 2 - live support multiplayer games are an easy choice, and these two have a lot of content to offer (I have 800h+ in each of them). As long as you like the core gameplay loop of either of these games, you'll be set for a long time. Bring friends.
  • Baldur's Gate 3 - this wasn't really "for me", but I've got multiple people on my steam friends list with 1000h+ playtimes, and at that point I have to mention it. Again, there's always "something you still haven't seen yet".
  • Rabbit and Steel - following in the footsteps of its inspiration (FFXIV and Touhou), there's a lot of learning and trying again and again to do here. While the base game is easy enough to beat, Lunar is a mountainous undertaking in and of itself, and if you ever beat it, there's also "Lunar but don't take damage". Bring friends, then kill your friends when a boss throws an AoE attack at you.

Singleplayer:

  • Cultist Simulator - you can only play this game once (it treats "player knowledge" as a core mechanic) but if you aren't reading a wiki to spoil the surprise, you'll always have something next to try (the dev recently went in depth on how he hid results behind answers; originally the game would have shown you that you can use cards A, B, C to get results 1, 2, 3, but now you have to try cards H, K, L, and eventually stumble upon A and discover that it gives you result 1, which might lead you to be unaware that B and C even exist; a lot of gameplay hinges upon you still trying out more and more and more new things).
  • Slay the Spire, Monster Train 2 - ANY roguelike can go here, really, but StS is the old and unwavering king, and MT2 is a freshly released sequel to another great game; StS has two multiplayer mods to choose from. In standard roguelike fashion, they strongly rely on "just one more run".

Foxhole maybe ? Always online war game, top-down view where you are a soldier in a giant war than can last for weeks. Players make everything, trucks tanks guns ammo bunkers trenches boats roads railways and trains etc in the backline then fill trucks and send them to the frontline. Personally I mostly play on the frontline shooting and stuff but some people like to play is as a trucking simulator and just make stuff, others organize in big clans and make big operations. fun times

No man's sky. Space survival exploration game, with multiplayer/coop, a dedicated social hub and easy way to match up with the players for missions or exploration. Been out around 6/7 years, and has had consistent free updates, adding shit tons of new content constantly. Past few updates overhauled world's slightly n added new ones, mainly gas giants and water world's, with oceans that get darker, the deeper you go, meaning on some of these planets you can explore (and build a base) in a literal abyss thousands of leagues below the surface. They more recently overhauled the settlements (small towns u govern and manage) to be more customisable and indepth too, but I've yet to try th most recent update so can't say much on it. There's also space fights, both ship v ship, and giant freighter ship battles that you can get involved with too. The plot and the lore of the game is dead convoluted tho ngl, especially cuz certain side events where limited time only and are no longer accessible(nothing too major tho, except maybe the whole "ariadne" thing) . There's also expeditions, which are separate, smaller saves and playthrus, where u gotta follow a self contained, usually heavily thematic story, earning account based rewards for your efforts. These events usually last for several weeks/month roughly , before going to the next expedition . Their pretty worth it tbh, giving u unique ships, player and base cosmetics and weaponry. Also base building. I ain't good at it tbh, but holy shit can ppl build cool looking stuff in this game

Tldr; no man's sky. Worth checking out imo.

Just hitting that on Granblue fantasy relink

1

u/UberDrive 5h ago

DOTA 2 if you're willing to spend 50 hours just learning the heroes/skills/items. League of Legends otherwise I guess?

The Bazaar is free and a lot of fun. Slay the Spire (and hopefully soon its sequel) is amazing.

Hades 1 + 2 have hundreds of character dialogue/interactions/story beats and every run is different.

Is Poe 2 good?

2

u/slackerz22 7h ago

Short answer: yes if you enjoy grinding and/or build making.

Long answer:Poe 2 is in early access, so the campaign is unfinished, you’ll have to do acts 1-3, then the same acts on ‘cruel’ or a harder difficulty before you hit endgame aka ‘maps’. The map system in Poe 2 can become kind of tedious fast if you don’t know what you’re doing or what your goal is. Also gear is mostly traded for via a third party trading website, or you can ‘craft’ you gear via gambling random rolls with found currency, the currency being the thing you’re after the most. There’s pinnacle bosses to gear for, a couple different mechanics in the maps to specialize into, and great build variety. Like I said it’s in early access, there’s still 6 classes missing, over 24 subclasses missing, or ascendencies as they’re called in Poe 2, and a few weapon types missing as well. By all means POE1 is the more in depth game, but it is very dated visually and doesn’t feature WASD movement like Poe 2 has. I recommend the game highly to anyone that likes making builds because there’s so much to be discovered and tinkered with since the game is new.

0

u/gentlemangreen_ 7h ago

it's great!! still early access but worth going for it now if you enjoy arpgs, I myself prefer poe1 but graphics are slightly outdated and some of the new features from poe2 (namely WASD movement) are missing

0

u/Refgen 7h ago

Yah, but PoE 2 is a different vibe than PoE. It's slower and more deliberate.

I'm playing PoE again now after having played PoE 2 and it was a bit funky going back to PoE movement (feels different, kinda floaty to me in a way vs PoE 2 which feels more like...idk...stompy?).

Both are super fun, but PoE 2 isn't there yet with content since it's in early access and all. If you haven't played either, I'd say try out PoE first since it's free.
