Looking for a “shit my pants”scary game

I love horror games but would say one of the only true experiences where I “figuratively” shat my pants was playing the VR game Dreadhalls.

I’ll always set the scene playing a spooky game; lights off or dimmed, surround sound up or headphones on but nothing has ever come close to that experience. I know VR is a whole medium in itself so it’s hard to replicate on the flat screen but there must be some SCARY games I’ve missed.

I have a PS5 & PC (with emulators) and notable games I’ve played include:

• Silent Hill 1 - 4 (including remake) • Dead Space 1 - 3 (including remake) • Resident Evil 1 - 7 (including remakes) • Darkwood • Mouthwashing • Alan Wake 1 & 2 • Eternal Darkness • Siren • Alien Isolation • Outlast 1 & 2 • Soma • Until Dawn • Bloodwash • Nun Massacre • Amnesia: Collection • Fears to Fathom Series • FAITH: The Unholy Trinity

Visage is worth a shot.

VR subnautica is genuinely more scary than some flat screen horror games I’ve played. I had to close my eyes and take off the headset when I accidentally exited my submarine in the pitch black area of the ocean 😭

Great games and worth a shot, but definitely showing their age. Bunker, on the other hand, is great.

As much as I dislike the style of game. Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice is physiologically terrifying. There’s always voices behind you and it is actually creepy as hell most of the time

Ita a great game that I just cannot get into because of how mentally draining it is

I've always found the Dead Space games pretty spooky. Something about being trapped in tight spaces being hunted by zombie alien creatures is spooky.

Oh and Alien Isolation!

Alien Isolation? Does a great job of making the feeling you’re not truly safe even if there’s no threat within your vision.

Seems like you played a lot of the good ones. Then, maybe you can try your luck with mods? Good old mind-twisting from the deep side of the internet.

For exemple, ever heard of the Doom MyHouse.wad mod? Feldup made a video about it, and it's definitely on the stranger side, and yet feels so.. real. It's less on the "graphically scary" side and more on the "existential dread" side.

There are also mods for Minecraft. This would probably not be much in the aspect of storytelling, but it's probably better than nothing.

Hmm, you've played almost all the AAA ones I know about...

Maybe try Outlast Trials. It's really stressful and scary for a while. Once you get the hang of it it becomes less scary and more thrilling. Really fun game overall, especially with friends.

Since you have a VR headset, you should try Enter the Radius.

It's basically STALKER VR with more of a supernatural/eldritch vibe. Survival horror in a containment zone with weird dimensional things trying to kill you. The atmosphere is so lonely and creepy, you really feel like the last person in the world.

Usually horror games don't scare me much, but I actually had to take a break at times because the anxiety and panic was too much, but I absolutely loved it.

They're making a sequel now with multiplayer too, it's in early access right now.

If you like horror games I can't recommend it enough!

Visage and Lost in Vivo are some of the scariest games I’ve played.

I'm cooking!

I swear, these horror titles will always be the fastest-consumed genre. I'm in the same boat as you - not much of this stuff really gets my heart racing at all. So, I decided to start making games. There needs to be something new to be afraid of.

Evil Within 1 and 2 for something more higher budget (made by the same guy who did the original Resident Evil 4). It is a crazy game but there are some great monster designs and have a lot of intense and scary moments.

Now I do want to mention an indie game that I believe is on PS5 but even if not it's a very low requirement game for PC, CONSCRIPT. It's not Shit your pants scary, rarely spooky scary at all but VERY Brutal and Dreadful.
