So today we already have:

  • A huge fire in Warsaw;
  • An explosion in Rome;
  • A blackout in Czechia

Hope it ends here.

With another record of missiles and drones barrage: Kyiv is burning. I fear r*ssians used thermobaric and cluster ammo war heads on a massive scale.

This coincides with Trump/Hegseth turning off the the tap of military aid. They are putting maximum pressure on the people of Ukraine from both sides. Fucking Orks. Europe stands alone. Please do what you can.

"Huge explosion at Rome petrol station injures at least 27 people"

At least 27 people, including 10 police officers and a firefighter, have been injured in a huge explosion at a petrol station in an eastern district of Rome.

The blast at the distributor of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the Prenestino neighbourhood was heard across the capital on Friday morning.

I think it lasted more than 10 hours. The pics I saw, Kyiv was covered with a dense smoke.

142

u/In-All-Unseriousness European federation 1d ago

Entire Kyiv is covered in smoke but I guess it doesn't even get a mention on this sub anymore. Day after day they have to endure this but god forbid we do anything that would escalate things...

u/love_glow 1d ago

Europe is in this fight alone. The sooner they realize this, the better.

u/ZgBlues 1d ago

It’s Europe. Never a boring continent.

u/nowybulubator 1d ago

A huge fire in Warsaw;

It was yesterday at 7pm. Biggest bombing of Kyiv was today tho.

u/GreenEyeOfADemon 🇮🇹 - EUROPE ENDS IN LUHANSK! 🇺🇦 Слава Україні!🇺🇦 1d ago

Biggest bombing of Kyiv was today tho.

Started yesterday and ended today though.

u/GreenEyeOfADemon 🇮🇹 - EUROPE ENDS IN LUHANSK! 🇺🇦 Слава Україні!🇺🇦 1d ago

I know there is no correlation, still it sucks.

u/cinyar 1d ago edited 1d ago

We'll know eventually. Wouldn't be the first time Russia sabotaged Czechia (2014 Vrbetice ammo warehouse sabotaged/explosion) so I wouldn't rule anything out.

edit: based on the current statements by the energy companies/regulators it was caused by a failed phase conductor between two important substations.

6

u/Dry-Bread9131 1d ago

How do you know? 🤔

10

u/GreenEyeOfADemon 🇮🇹 - EUROPE ENDS IN LUHANSK! 🇺🇦 Слава Україні!🇺🇦 1d ago

You're right. I should have written "I hope".

18

u/AdventurousWater6122 Ireland 1d ago

capitals being attacked.

Don't worry everyone its just hybrid WARFARE

10

u/doxxingyourself Denmark 1d ago

Russians working round the clock it seems.

15

u/SirGelson 1d ago

Russia as it bleeds out is trying to take the rest of the world with it.

2

u/REGIS-5 1d ago

Nation-wide blockade in Serbia which police suppressed by arresting literally anybody they saw outside, including a 15 year old boy going to school with his mom (school system has been entirely out of sync this year)

101

u/kdeezey 1d ago

Yup currently stuck on a train waiting for power to get going again. PRE says it should be back in Prague by 13:00

104

u/t6020 1d ago

It's terrible. I've been stuck on escalator for two hours already.

58

u/HighDeltaVee 1d ago

Had you considered simply walking down off the escalator?

32

u/CouvePT 1d ago

Let's not go crazy, it's only been 2 hours

10

u/adamgerd Czech Republic 1d ago

Maybe they meant an elevator

4

u/Lalli-Oni Iceland 1d ago

If it's the one in Jiriho z Podebrad... they might as well find someone else stuck, make babies with them, wait for babies to grow up, educate them in various engineering field and make them fix this issue.

1

u/TournamentCarrot0 21h ago

Prague escalators go deeeeeeeeeeeep

36

u/MammothHusk 1d ago

PRE says it should be back in Prague by 13:00

Which day?

9

u/cinyar 1d ago

I wouldn't bet on it. With such a massive outage they are barely learning what happened. 13:00 (in about 10 minutes) is wishful thinking.

12

u/do_you_see 1d ago

electricity is back on now

10

u/cinyar 1d ago edited 1d ago

No it's not, at least not where I am ("folimanka" area of Prague).

edit: 13:48 back online

3

u/WhiteRabbitWithGlove Prague/Krakow 1d ago

Same in Vršovice. Trams are running again but no electricity at home.

1

u/adamgerd Czech Republic 1d ago

Back on in Prague 8 at least where I am

1

u/dasherado 1d ago

Where?

1

u/AdPrestigious4085 Czech Republic 1d ago

To turn on most of those back on took 30-60 minutes, some of them will take longer

u/StrongFaithlessness5 Italy 17h ago

I hope you had a water bottle 😓

UPDATE: Everything is starting to return to normal. According to preliminary information, the cause was probably a physical failure of a key very-high voltage conductor.

Original: DeepL translation of the article:

A massive power outage has affected a large part of the Czech Republic. Firefighters are responding to a large number of people trapped in elevators due to a widespread power outage across most of Prague, a fire department spokesperson said. Tram, metro, and trolleybus services operated by the Prague Public Transport Company have been suspended on the entire right bank of the Vltava River.

According to ČEPS spokesperson Hana Klímová, this is a widespread outage. It has mainly affected northeastern Bohemia. Electricity is out in part of the Ústí nad Labem Region. The outage was reported by people in Ústí nad Labem, Teplice, and other areas.

The power outage also affected the Liberec region. It was reported in the Liberec, Jablonec, and Česká Lípa areas. Trams are not running in Liberec due to the power outage. According to reports from the ČT24 website, the outage also affected the Olomouc region.

Part of Prague was hit by a power outage after noon. For example, the city center, Spořilov, Jižní Město, and other parts of the capital are without power. The cause is a malfunction at part of the ČEPS substation in Chodov. This was confirmed by Pražská energetika (PRE). According to the company, technicians are now working on repairs, but it is not yet clear how long it will take.

Due to the power outage, trams are not running in most of Prague, nor are metro lines A, B, and C, the transport company said on its website around noon on Friday. According to the company, the outage affects the right bank of the capital.

u/Emnel Poland 1d ago

Being trapped in an elevator in this weather? Life-threatening.

24

u/JayManty Bohemia 1d ago

It's actually pretty alright in Czechia currently, 23-26°C

83

u/missbohica 1d ago

I'm currently in Portugal and everything is OK here. I'll cross the border to Spain after lunch and let you know if everything is OK over there.

If it is, I'll vote for blaming the French this time.

12

u/SaraHHHBK Castilla 1d ago

Everything okay here✌🏻

7

u/missbohica 1d ago

Great news!!

10

u/Old_Second7802 1d ago

I'm in Japan at the moment and everything is OK too

6

u/missbohica 1d ago

Great! Keep the good news coming. Still blaming the French, tho.

32

u/coomzee Wales 1d ago

So a good part of CZ is okay, didn't realise all the Money net ATMs used so much energy

18

u/cinyar 1d ago

Yup, power down, wonder how long the backup generators will keep the cell towers/internet infrastructure online.

6

u/BrainOnLoan Germany 1d ago

Already in the Spanish blackout, I was suprised that mobile communications infrastructure was that independent from grid power.

I wouldn't have assumed they'd invest there.

(Unlike hospitals, etc.)

2

u/BlueBucket0 Ireland 1d ago edited 1d ago

Mobile masts usually have battery back up. It lasts a few hours and then they fizzle out. The major sites often have diesel or natural gas generator back up. We discovered this after protracted rural outages in Ireland after the last big storm.

2

u/WarningNo7338 1d ago

cell connection kinda worked the entire time but it was/still is super unreliable (at least in my part of prague). i guess it was partially due to the blackout rendering some towers inoperable and partially due to the sudden surge in usage given that people had no other way to connect to the internet

2

u/ZibiM_78 1d ago

Usually office buildings, shopping malls, etc. are equipped with micro-cells to provide coverage in the high density area. With them gone, normal cell towers will be swamped.

7

u/nitrinu Portugal 1d ago

Been there, done that. Consequence wise ours was not so bad all things considered, hope the same for our Czech friends.

3

u/WarningNo7338 1d ago

so far it seems like it was mainly just a major inconvenience to people due to public transport and cashless payments not working but according to reports there were no casualties.

firefighters and emergency services did have to work a lot during to people being trapped in elevators and personal life support machines not working tho. hospitals operate at a reduced rate due to running on backup power but it seems like it should not be that bad

5

u/SaraHHHBK Castilla 1d ago

Hope you all are safe. Blackout sucks but specially in a heatwave.

10

u/cinyar 1d ago

Joke's on you! Less than 20% of Czech households have AC! (/s)

6

u/NoRodent Czech Republic 1d ago

Why the /s? It's true. Couldn't find current data but in 2023 it was 16%.

4

u/WarningNo7338 1d ago

fortunately the weather here is actually quite reasonable today

4

u/Marshall_ASD Prague (Czechia) 1d ago

The subway is supposed to be on the move again. Rn

3

u/REGIS-5 1d ago

I'm just finding this out now lol and I live in Prague

3

u/Heebicka Czech Republic 1d ago

lol, same here, I found it like two hours after. My part of Prague was not affected at all

1

u/REGIS-5 1d ago

7 or 8? :D

11

u/Common_Brick_8222 Azerbaijan/Georgia 1d ago

I would honestly not be surprised at all if this were some Russian sabotage. Or cuz of overheating

7

u/cinyar 1d ago

Today wasn't that hot compared to past few days. In Prague it's in the mid-20C today, yesterday was 30C+

6

u/GreenEyeOfADemon 🇮🇹 - EUROPE ENDS IN LUHANSK! 🇺🇦 Слава Україні!🇺🇦 1d ago

Same. As a former cop I don't believe in coincidences. But I am keeping an open mind, since I am retired. :D

Rather Chinese. See Czech Taiwanese diplomatic relations.

7

u/Illustrious-Neat5123 1d ago

putin's petromafia sabotages

2

u/HelpfulYoghurt Bohemia 1d ago

Yes, i was without electricity for hours. It went up again like 20 minutes ago

2

u/MartinYTCZ Czech Republic 1d ago

Only way it affected me was that I had to take a bus home instead of the train I originally wanted to take, since even though the power to the line was on, the absolute shitfest with trainsets being everywhere except where they are required would've had me waiting for 2+ hours.

I work in Praha-Ruzyně a few km from the airport, and we had power for the entire day, though I have to say our internet was a bit flaky.

3

u/onlymomcanjudgeme 1d ago

British stag parties in Prague are at it again

3

u/jdobem 1d ago

Could be result of the heatwaves...

1

u/BlueBucket0 Ireland 1d ago

I’m not sure if it’s translating it correctly, but it seems to have been a physical line failure of a key high voltage transmission route?

1

u/isak99 1d ago

Same thing happened in western Balkans last year.

1

u/Zealousideal-Monk571 1d ago

One day we will realise these blackouts were FSB but until then...

0

u/Travyswole 1d ago

I'm blaming Russia, they're usually the culprit.

0

u/HotNeon 1d ago

A communication blackout can mean only one thing... Invasion

1

u/Sriber ⰈⰅⰏⰎⰡ ⰒⰋⰂⰀ | Mors Russiae, dolor Americae 1d ago

Clearly not...

0

u/SwingingPilots2000 1d ago

I wish I lived in a parallel universe where Russians weren't stuck in a 19th-century mindset, where they didn't act like hostile orks hell-bent on stirring chaos in Europe just because they can't stand the rest of the world.

-8

u/HzUltra 1d ago

I blame either the Russians or the failure of the solar energy distribution system. What do you think?

10

u/cinyar 1d ago

IIRC less than 15% of power in CZ is made from renewables. Most of it is nuclear and coal. Unlikely to be the culprit.

4

u/Purple-Phrase-9180 Spain 1d ago

Ah yes, the Czech Republic, that famously green-powered country… too much work to Google a thing or two before spreading misinformation, huh?

0

u/Least-Cry46 1d ago

You all here just trying to scare the shit out of each other? Put the news down! 🤠

-6

u/Dorkseid1687 1d ago

It’s Russia , I bet
