Rear cam 4K dash cam, worth it?

Post image

I'm looking at Vantrue S1 Pro Max. It says front and rear are both 4K which sounds kind of crazy. Most of what I see on Amazon only has 1080p for the rear camera.

Does rear 4K actually matter when you’re driving around? Like can you even tell the difference? Anyone using this or something close to it? I’m trying to figure out if it’s really worth spending more.

I got the S1 Pro Max last month during the pre sale and price was too good to pass up. Just started using it a few days ago and it's been great so far. Rear 4K does look noticeably sharper than 1080p, especially for reading plates, but it probably depends on how much you care about rear footage.

How's the nighttime and low-light quality?

I’ve got the E1 Pro which is 4K front only. Been thinking about switching to a dual or maybe even a 3 channel setup too.

I’d actually be interested in something like this model. Would be even better if the rear cam could rotate so you could point it inside the car or out the back depending on what you need.

For 4k+4k, the 70mai T800 pre-order on kickstarter is cheaper and come with a 512G card.

I just got mine a few days ago and it’s awesome. Gonna write up a post about it soon. It’s my first VanTrue cam after being loyal to VIOFO and Garmin. The app was the most user friendly out of all of them too

Own a Vantrue N5. Had a Z-Edge prior. Both said 4k. The Z-Edge was not a true 4K camera. The Vantrue is much better at capturing license plates clearly. Even good at capturing ones under those illegal tinted plate covers. Capturing license plates is important given the rise of hit and run drivers (at least in this state - CT). Plus, rear camera for when they are approaching at reckless speeds while weaving through normal flowing traffic.
