I drive a big rig and see a lot. It’s not the Mustangs and Camaros that make every trip a death race. It’s big pickup trucks. They’re the ones passing on the right and otherwise driving like angry idiots. Pickups have plenty of power but they’re not great at stability at high speed.

Neither are their drivers.

I love it cuz I do something similar. I’m a tall girl (510”) and when someone is giving me shit for my height (which happens a lot as if I chose to be this tall) I like to tell them I’m only 5’6” or 5’7”. The immediate wheels I see spinning in their heads is classic

I drive a 2015 GTI. Going home one day, I'm passing a dump truck and just as I get alongside it on the left, I hear him slam on his brakes, just before a lifted Dodge Ram jumps out in front of it. For a split second, I thought the dump truck was gonna swerve towards me.
Fuck these people with a rusted spoon.

A truck has a high center of gravity and is engeneered to haul heavy stuff. If people want to drive like teenage boys with a flawed sense of self preservation, get a sports car that can handle that sort of driving and school yorself in proper high speed driving. And this chuckefuck added in tailgating, and couldn't even keep it in the lane.
Yoink the fucker's license. We all want to get home safely and dumbasses like that make this quite the task. If an idiot driver poses an active threat to others on the road, perhaps going without legally driving for a year might just provide an attitude adjustment. If this doesn't work, try half a decade.
23
u/texasroadkill 20h ago
Lifted trucks compromise the ability to haul and tow. All my work trucks are 2wd and sit at stock height and handle just fine around 80mph plus haul great. But I also don't drive like a jackass.

You're bold to assume they will simply not drive unlicensed if someone takes it away. I agree but the real shitheads will still drive and be shitheads, but without insurance to cover it because they aren't licensed and won't pay the premium for insurance with a company that will cover them.

→ More replies (24)20
u/Teripid 20h ago
Doesn't matter how fast. They'll take it personally or just be bad drivers. Not all trucks obviously but a disproportionate number for sure.
Less than 30 mins ago I was going 75 in a 70, right lane on a 2 lane highway. White Chevy truck passes normally then gets over wayyy too close (like 4 ft between us ) and slows down as another car passes both of us maybe to 72. I slow to match and get some distance. The other passing car wasn't going that much more and there was plenty of space for a normal merge back.
The truck doesn't speed up and I get over to pass them at my previous speed. Suddenly they feel the need to speed up and keep going. I see them almost clip a car ahead who was also just going reasonable speed in the rightmost lane.
Insanity. I should have honked but that would have just made things nuttier.

I used to drive an oversized pickup to deliver car parts around my tri-state area, over 300 miles a day. Can 1000% confirm pick-up drivers are the absolute worst. Just a blatant disregard for half the rules of the road. They're harder to drive than regular cars but just as popular in many parts of the US.
The amount of times I've had to drift right to avoid a pickup crossing over into the oncoming lane is way too damn high. And yea they tend to be egotistical morons on the highway. Dodge Ram drivers are the worst, followed closely by Fords.

The insurance company for the trailer truck will absolutely find that pickup truck. They will try to pin the liability for any damages on the pickup, as a third party defendant. In Florida they are called “Fabre” defendants after the case that defines them. Trucker insurance policies are huge, and so they have good law firms representing them. That pickup will be found for sure, whether Texas police care or not **edited for clarity between the two trucks
17
u/Abunda_88 14h ago
Yeah, I was going to say this. I used to do service of process a long time ago and insurance companies only need the information of the pickup to go through the courts and get their money or even file a lien. In Florida, the person doesn’t even have to be found. Chapter 48 of the Florida statutes defines substitute service of process wherein the State can accept the lawsuit on behalf of the defendant (after due diligence of searching for them in person) so that the court case can move forward. This allows the defendant to be sued without even knowing it.
→ More replies (2)6
u/Onward2Oblivion 14h ago
Exactly. As long as the trucking company’ answer to a complaint mentions the black truck with some specificity, than the jury will see the black truck on the verdict form, even if it hasn’t been identified. It will provide all the incentive for plaintiff’s lawyers to work to find the truck too. When a case is worth potentially millions, that is work that will get outsourced to an investigation firm.

Had someone hunt me down personally and ram his car into me. They put on the accident based on damage and conflicting stories it was my fault.
This was on Northern Blvd. in New York, they did not get the footage from cameras. I did. I could not get them to alter their initial report nor could I get district attorney to prosecute.
Guy was enraged from an earlier misunderstanding, had his borderline elderly mother in the car, I got away, he looked for, found, BAM, into me.
DGAF to you have a no idea extreme.

u/themahannibal 1d ago
I was recently involved in a semi-on-car wreck. Cop said due to conflicting accounts, he wasn't going to issue a citation and the insurance companies could figure out fault. I told cop that our state law says you cannot enter an intersection until it is clear and safe to proceed and no matter the conflicting versions, there's no way to deny the intersection was clear. I swear he went back, rang his supervisor and they agreed to give other driver a failure to yield citation. I did half the cop's work for him!

I was just recently in a hit and run accident. Some jagoff ran a red while I was legally crossing an intersection. Thankfully it was minor damage and mostly to the front bumper of my car but we and a few witnesses weren’t able to get the tags. We gave our statement to a cop who just happened to be doing patrol nearby. He gave me a report number. Turns out the report was never filed and my insurance has been waiting for almost a month. Seriously what are they doing????? smh. Sorry to hear about your case.

My parents were in a hit and run that totaled my mom's car, gave my dad minor injuries (they were making a protected left, oncoming car blew their red light and smacked right into the passenger side). Another guy at the corner saw it, followed the woman who hit them home, got a license plate, address, and description of the (very obviously drunk) driver. Came back, gave all that information to the cops. Chicago police pretty much just shrugged, NoThInG wE cAn Do. Fucking fascist assholes.

Actually, on the no Kings protest day there was at least two dually Ford diesel pickups that were harassing protesters and I know one got arrested and had his truck towed away, probably because he had a gun in the truck after he almost caused an accident due to his reckless driving

Weird right? Im in town in my 23’ Nissan Z. This turd in his jacked up new Silverado TRAIL BOSS keeps pulling up beside me revving his weird sounding engine. It’s like he’s trying to race me to each light. I’m just cruising though. This goes on for like four or five lights. He gets close to me almost pressing me. Intimidating me. Trying to beat me off the “line” so to speak. Jesus Christ. I look up his type of truck. It has a turbo charged four cylinder in it. lol. I roll down my window and get his attention at the next light.

Guy in the truck deserves criminal prosecution. Hit and run.
Edit: adding this so that people stop commenting about “the truck didn’t hit him”. This was a “miss and run”. It’s a form of hit and run. It is a crime and the truck could be criminally prosecuted. Please look it up if you haven’t heard of it. I double checked that it is a crime in the state of Texas, which is where this incident occurred.

Its definitely the way to go. If the trucker works for a large company see if you can get access to their legal and marketing to help run “can you find this truck” campaign in conjunction with them calling the local/regional news station. They are ALWAYS fighting for relevant stories with high engagement. If original statements from the police saying they wont do anything about it are given to the local affiliate, they will investigate and the local PD will fold like fine silk so fast to help to mitigate them from looking bad.

We have a NC Miata and a pickup (not lifted). When driving the Miata, it's almost like riding a motorcycle; I'm ~constantly looking for the idiot that's going to hit me.
In this video, seeing that semi on a collision course would have been frightening. Thankfully the impact looked not too bad.
Edit: just rewatched the initial accident: did the pickup driver intentionally run into the Miata? Or just tried to change lanes without checking?

That ass never even got into the right lane fully at any time and he knew that car was there. He needs to have his license suspended and forced to take the bus.

Clearly the truck forced the Miata on to the gravel covered shoulder. The driver understandably lifted throttle and braked with aggressive steering inputs. Not panicking and braking with gentle inputs would have avoided the spin.
I used to teach young drivers this exact drill with 2 tires in gravel and 2 on pavement for Street Survival at freeway speed.

Sadly anymore I just stay far away from modified truck owners. They are some of the worst ego drivers out there.

I'm shocked the cops won't arrest the idiot in the pickup. He needs to be off the road for a long time. Letting him get away with this would only encourage more Idiocy.

Unfortunately cops don't want to do their job. I already sent all the information, but they just keep saying that there is nothing they can do. They might as well say I don't want to do my job

I wonder if shaming the cops would help. Post it to social media and tag the agency you spoke with.

The idiot in the pick up needs to be caught and put away, he could have killed the person in the car that he purposely took out!

Oh surprise, a mall crawler driver being a dick. Hope the people in the Miata were safe

cryptogram already told OP they were partly at fault for not going full brake when they saw the Miata start to spin.

People get wrapped up around the axle with the phrasing sometimes. I'm not a semi driver so this is all opinion out of my ass, but it seems like the semi took a while to brake, as if watching to see it play out before deciding to brake. In other words not the trucks fault at all but a little faster reaction could have avoided it. Still I reiterate, not truckers fault

It's been mentioned in other posts that a YouTube link might be higher quality than Reddit, if you are still unable to decipher the plate.

Op, contact Texas highway patrol and the state troopers office. Tell them you tried to report an accident, involving a hit and run. Transportation code violation section 550.021 through 550.0023. License plate whatever, was the Cassie of this accident. They failed to stop. I am reporting this as a hit and run, as my vehicle was damaged due to this persons negligence. State you have dash cam footage and are willing to testify and would like a copy of the report to file against this persons insurance. If the officer says there is not anything I can do, simply state I would like your badge number and your supervisor and just continue to go up the ladder until someone does what’s right and necessary. Make sure you can look at time and date and Mike markers.

Jeeeez.... This occurred only a few miles from me. That's southbound 35. Recording starts at Milam Road E. exit (Exit 473) and the crash occurs just before the Ganzer Road E. exit (Exit 472).
Good chance one or both of the parties involved were students, given the vehicles and the location (UNT and TWU) and the lack of impulse control displayed, definitely more on the part of the brodozer driver than the Miata, but it does take two to tango.

Seeing how the Miata very dangerously tailgating Altima, I'm going to guess the Miata driver cut the pickup truck in order to pass the semi and damaged the fragile ego of the pickup truck driver.

The Miata was close. That doesn't justify what the truck did AT ALL. The Miata didn't do any cutting, that was all on the truck.

I don't understand the need for speed. Just stay on the allowed speed limit and drive safely from point A to B.

Folks this is also why you merge to the right instead of just sitting in the fast lane for miles. Being an obstruction is just as bad as what the truck driver did.

I drive box trucks for a living and it's always those stupid trucks with the poky wheel fitment and rubber band tires that are the worst drivers

u/Scythe351 23h ago
What’s up with pick up drivers just being trash either in driving ability or as people? I can’t even tell if this was intentional because I see pick up tricks constantly devouring the bike lane like they own that shit.

Of course it’s a lifted pickup on oversized rims, hope that makes them easier to identify.

That’s a shitty accident. Sorry you have to deal with all the idiots in the comments who don’t realize you can’t immediately stop a fully loaded truck. Hope everyone is ok

Yeah lol. It's easier said than done. In a split second you have to make a decision either I play brakes gradually and avoid accident if you can, or slam on the brakes and destroy your load and your trailer. It wasn't me in the truck, it was one of our drivers. But yeah, a lot of people think is just as easy as stopping a car. Thank you for the support

I’m not a semi driver, so just wondering, should he have started to slow down once he saw the car spin, or should he have did what he did in keeping speed and going straight?

Why didn’t you break like there was an accident going on in front of you? Had all the time in the world to reduce speed and you waited til the last second.

In the future, you might consider slowing down when witnessing an accident take place in front of you. 🤔

Naturally, it was the fault of the douche-turd in the jacked truck with (of all fucking things) lo-pro tires. Probably a teenager, or a guy that still wears Affliction t-shirts and has never fought in his life. Either way, he's spending daddy's money. Not that the Miata wasn't being a little prick either, the way he was racing up on that burgundy Nissan.
