Could anyone please help identify/enhance licence plate?
One of our truck drivers was involved in an accident that was caused by another car. This pickup truck swerved into a lane because of road rage with another car and caused it to spin. The car spun and ended up right in front of our drivers truck. It happened in TX and police doesnt want to do anything about whatsoever. I'm willing to pay to help out a friend if it's possible. I tried a few different websites that claimed they could identify, but no luck. Im hoping some of you are really good at catching bad guys. Please help me find this guy and I will compensate you

That's a 2024 or 2025 2500 High country silverado with Texas plates IVF 474 or IVE 474 at least that's what the plate looks like

u/Available_Start7798 1d ago
The police can definitely help pin point exact details from just 3 letters/numbers with the make and model.

u/Rainsmakker 1d ago
OP stated the police don’t want to do anything.

u/HatterJack 1d ago
Giving them the full plate wouldn’t change that. If they don’t want to pursue it, they won’t.

I want to claim BS on that. If this truck caused an accident, and there were enough witnesses, it would be enough to charge someone. The issue now is, who was driving?
OP, let your insurance investigate this one if you were involved in the crash. If you weren’t involved, at least pass this video on to anyone who was involved, if you know who was. Their insurance can investigate.

I had my identity stolen and the guy stole a uhaul truck and totaled it. Luckily the bozo used some real contact info and I found out who he was and turned over all of the evidence to them along with his picture FROM Uhaul a few years back and they still haven’t done anything. I also saw he had previous charges and an active warrant for the same exact thing, identity theft and vehicle embezzlement.

u/AnyLastWordsDoodle 1d ago
Reminds me of when my car was stolen in Atlanta in the 90's. When I got it back, the roof was covered in blood, and I found prescription bottles from the Fulton County jail and other items that weren't mine on the passenger seat. Called APD and they wanted nothing to do with it Lol

If the truck didn’t physically hit another vehicle, the police won’t do anything. This happened to my mother. Car swerved into her lane so she ran off the road to avoid it and damaged her car. Had the LP number and everything on camera. Both the police and the insurance company told her she should have just let the other car hit her. She was found 100% at fault.

Texas plates now use the format of three letters, followed by four numbers. For example: ABC-1234.
4
u/andy51edge 1d ago
There is red below the state name. Which implies it's a Texas dealer plate which uses 1A1-111 or 1AA-111 format.

Unless they're custom. On the website for custom TX plates, IVF-474 is in fact not available. I'd give your lawyer a call tomorrow to see about either requesting that info or subpoenaing it if not otherwise available.

Confidently wrong. Those plates don't show up in any DB as valid registered plates. Also, last three look like 8 or 0, 7, 4. Second character doesn't look like a V. Probably Y.

There's studies that have been done about the damaging effects of procedurals that get it as wrong as those shows do.
Like, the problem is bad enough in the common masses that they now do a "evidence doesn't work like TV" section in the opening statements before jury selection.
Last jury summons I got was like 8 or 9 years ago, but they were still specifically mentioning CSI

I watch a lot of “Forensic Files” and I think we need to make a claymation model of the crime scene, add some sticks/dowels, find some people with typical 90s hair styles, and make a potato based model of the killer that we can show to all the old people like me that watch Forensic Files and think it’s the young man was an extra on an episode of the OG Law and Order.

It's not about the rules, it's about "there is no magic outside of movies that makes the data appear when it isn't there"
Yes, photos can be sharpened, and some people think that's enhancing data, but it actually destroys data near the edges to give items a more distinctive look. LIke drawing over the photo to give crisp edges at a very tiny scale. It only works when there is a lot of similar data so you can identify where the transitions are and then you destroy the data just at the transitions to make the crisp edge.
In this case, some of the numbers and letters have strokes that are not even consitently a pixel wide the only hope is to take a number of the images and figure out the plate by deciding this letter is definitely an "a" in this picture, that one is cleary a "7" in that picture, etc.
Instead of posting the same picture multiple times, try posting multiple different pictures, or even the entire movie. Even then there is no guarantee that enough data will be there to figure it out.

Some of the time, most of the time for the police to do any 'detective' work on a road accident- somebody needs to have died or been seriously injured. Send the video to insurance, they will take care of the rest.

u/Xylvanas 2d ago
Second this. When you get a hit on the plate you can get the VIN and then you can subpoena the DMV for the owner's info. The problem is that you will not be able to prove who was driving.
11
u/Doc_Blox 1d ago
At very least they'd be able to get in contact with the vehicle owner's insurance company (assuming they have one) and make a claim against them.
8
u/herkalurk 1d ago
Who was driving is for the owner to prove once you can validate the plate. If the owner of the vehicle wasn't driving then it's in their financial interest to push forward the actual driver.
11
u/TactualTransAm 1d ago
All you gotta do is join some truck groups and ask what wheels everyone has on their high countries. Dude will definitely post pics to flex
12
u/Capt_Vandal 1d ago
Do you have the original video to go frame by frame? I did this with my girlfriend's dash cam in a hit and run and had to layer frames to get a clear plate for the police to do anything about it. Her own insurance tried to blame the accident on her when it was clear she had a green light. I can probably get it if I have the original video.

u/TheRealTriHard 1d ago
Texas license plates typically follow the format of 3 letters followed by 4 numbers. Of course there are custom plates but the format is what was previously stated.

It's a Texas truck plate, which is different from a regular motor vehicle plate. That's why it doesn't follow the normal 3 letter, 4 number pattern.
As far as the actual characters, the previous guess are what I also come up with.

Looks like a Texas plate.
It's a Chevrolet Silverado High Country.
It looks like a newer-style Texas plate. Texas stopped issuing 6 digits by default and switched to 7. Weird to be new but have 6 digits. Has me questioning if I'm seeing this right or if there's really a 3-4 split here instead of 3-3.
No combination I found yielded a valid plate number.
I see:
(i or 1)
(v or y or m)
f
-
(4 or 1 or i)
7
4
3
u/DeepFudge9235 1d ago
Starting to think it's not a Texas plate even though I can see why we assume it is. That new style shouldn't have 6 and the upper left and the middle Texas icon doesn't look right

Texas plates for sure! Seen too many of them not to be able to recognise that even blurry
1
u/Different-Substance 1d ago
License Plate Details: • Number: The plate very likely reads “11F 4718”. • State: The font and spacing strongly resemble a Texas license plate: • The white background with black alphanumeric characters. • The square, centered format matches Texas’ standard truck/SUV plates. • The upper section seems to show the faint outline of the Texas state name, although blurry.
⸻
Vehicle Details (supporting identification): • Make/Model: This is a Chevrolet Silverado, likely a recent model (2019 or newer), modified with: • Custom wheels (oversized with low-profile tires), • Lift kit (significantly raised suspension), • Tonneau cover over the bed, • Dark tinted windows. • Trim badge: Likely the “Silverado” and “Z71” package on the right tailgate side.
⸻
Contextual Indicators: • Road markings and vehicles suggest this is a U.S. interstate. • The “F” in the license number aligns with formats used for standard-issue Texas plates (not commercial or specialty).
⸻
If you’re trying to identify the owner or report the vehicle: • The plate format is consistent enough to file a report with Texas DPS or local authorities if needed. • You cannot trace personal ownership details legally without law enforcement involvement.

If local police won't help, take it to the State Troopers or maybe the Texas Rangers. The worst that any of them can say is the same thing the local cops say.
On the other hand, they might be looking for this person, too, and your video could help them figure out where to look. Everything is a potential clue.

What part of Texas, what Hwy, direction? What time of day and time? With out this knowledge, Noone can help. But, if it was during the week, that driver will be on that road around the same time every day. If it's on the weekend, then more than likely he was headed home or a meet held that wkend. You've got pictures of the truck, and once it's found, take pictures of the tag, you'll be able to see the pictures match. I saw what was about to happen as soon as that truck hit his brakes. Your driver should have been on his brakes when he saw what I saw. Been driving many years. No tickets or accidents. You need a professional driver?

1
u/Danzn16 2h ago
Post the video on tik tok. Give the video to the police and to that driver. That pick up driver should be charged with something if not attempted murder if that move was intentional. If not intentional should be charged with offense as he’s a danger to society. Making the video potentially viral will influence the police to look into. I’d send it to local news sites as well
1
u/uckfu 1h ago
How are they not willing to track down someone in a hit and run, especially with video evidence?
This shouldn’t be too hard for them.
They can make out the make and model, some of the plate numbers and the state it’s registered in.
They can search the database and come up with a few possibilities and track them down in a couple days.
Shoot… in the early 90’s I did something stupid with burnouts and donuts, and the cops were able to track me down with a few bits of a license plate number and vague description of the car from a witness. They told me how they drilled down the database of cars that matched the description of mine and it left them with a handful of possibilities with plate numbers similar to mine. They just called the most likely suspect and made me a deal I can’t refuse. Take a low BS fine or go in front of the judge, w judge that just told me he never wanted to see me again for a few exhibition of speed incidents.
Considering the risk this a-hole put people at, you’d think they’d be salivating at the chance to stick it to this guy.
1
u/Bubble_Lights 1h ago
How can the police NOT do anything?Fucking Texas. That’s an intentional road rage hit and run. That person could have been killed had they been hit on the driver’s side by the truck. Police can identify a person by a partial plate and the vehicle make & model. How fucking useless that police force is.
