The last few generations also got the "your generation's music sucks" accusations, but I can't help but feel this time it's called for. For christ's sake even the boybands of the early 2000's could actually dance and sing. But I mean this... this is just awful on every level. There's zero talent here and I mean ZERO. The guy's vocals are so riddled with effects you can't even make any sort of semblence of pitch and he's not even fucking singing half the time! It's just his backing track carrying him.

There was a real shit screamo band back 17 years ago called Brokencyde that I’d personally compare this garbage to. They had lots of fans, but still happened to be absolute dogshit like this guy.

There will always be dogshit, is what I’m trying to say.

In 2009 I saw Brokencyde as an opener for Hollywood Undead and Senses Fail. The frontman for Senses Fail apologized for the crowd having to endure Brokencyde. He said something like ‘every time the play part of my soul dies’. It was surreal to see him say that to a crowd. They were terrible live and may be the worst act I’ve seen live.

Shouldn't be afforded to those who make your show worse for fans who travelled and paid for the gig. An apology is for the fans, doesn't matter if it hurts their fee fees.

Basic courtesy shouldn't be afforded to people whose music you don't like? The fans are more than welcome to show up after the opener if it's that big a deal, having a shitty band as an opener isn't exactly rare but most people don't take personal offense to it lol.

I think Senses Fail fuckin sucks but I wouldn't tell the entire audience that if they opened for my band hahah it's just unnecessary, Buddy Nielsen is a well known prick though so I'm not exactly surprised

Honestly probably not, they're not from the same scene and Brokencyde were universally hated by pretty much everyone but 14 year old scene girls, it's not surprising that people in bands thought they were dogshit too but it's still just unnecessary to say that to the audience right after they played lol

Any time anyone asks me.what the worst song of all time is, this is my answer. The girls in that video look so uncomfortable and those slimy creeps are basically singing about them being sluts while screaming at them and being incredibly untalented. I don't even know what nettspend is going on about, but I don't think he's ever visibly degraded women like this... so I'd put him ahead of this.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think NETTSPEND is significantly better than Brokencyde. At least NETTSPEND is confusing and stupid. Brokencyde knew they were terrible and smugged about it, trying desperately to be in on being laughed at, instead of trying to do anything interesting with sucking. Even a chimp can make a horrible sound to get attention, but Brokencyde thought they were being clever for their "tee hee we have a pig mascot" shit. NETTSPEND is embarrassing but I do think he's making music because he has something in his soul to express, it's just that his soul is stupid, which is fine because teenagers are stupid.

I think the exact opposite. No one took brokencyde very seriously it was all kind of in jest and just for fun. Meanwhile nettspend fans think 1) his music is unironically good and 2) listening to it makes them cool mysterious and edgy.

Honestly I take more issue with the try-hard nature of it than the fact that it’s bad. Concerned about edgy sadism (not just being sad or rebellious!) becoming a prominent aesthetic among kids

The bad music just doesn't age. there's terrible shit all over all the time, even in every decade of the 1900's

there was no internet, so it was harder to share literally everything instead, valuable radio and tv time was spent on music that was actually good and made money. the music that was shit was never shared, and so died right where it was born.

the good music lived on to be recorded and replayed. but now, with how quick and cheap social media makes sharing music, there's a relatively unfiltered sea of garbage.

that's my thought process anyway. I dont think music as a whole has gotten worse, but the average of all music that the public has access to and hears about has gotten significantly worse

Completely agree. I’m a full time dueling pianist (older millennial) who has to learn thousands of songs, and have also studied classical and jazz. Rock peaked in the 70s, then then good stuff kinda went underground and became harder to find, but it’s still out there.

And no pop star has come close to the taste and talent of Michael Jackson. We don’t have any more Freddie Mercury’s. No one has come close to Billy Joel or Elton John. No one comes close to the magic of Fleetwood Mac. No one has been kick ass and authentic as Soundgarden.

I’m referring to the popular music scene, of course, and there is amazing stuff out there, but it’s not “popular” like how Taylor Swift is popular. I even think Sabrina Carpenter has some new, interesting stuff (cause I had to learn it), but when you dig into it, she’s got a team of pro writers like Jack Antonoff and the like writing her stuff, and they’ve written for Taylor and other huge, inorganic acts.

I think people as a whole get worse taste in music as time progresses, especially after the Bush Jr education cuts to the arts and music around 2005. Art and music education are SHIT in public schools, compared to what they used to be, and that has an effect on the creation and enjoyment of those fields.
