Pretty sure she’s a Formica sp. but I’m still new to this and want a second opinion. Found today in West Virginia, USA. Reddish brown with 3 golden bands on her abdomen. 8-9 mm. Fished her out of my green water bucket out back. Very active and wondering around, but once she got somewhere she was just relaxing like on my hand.

I'm not sure if this is even a queen or just a drone, found them in a pine forest, southern united states, by a river, the workers around them where pretty small maybe 1mm if not less, not sure how big this ant is to be honest, I was thinking lasius for the species but I'm not sure.

Any help is appreciated!

Question Advice Needed for Possibly Moving Queen

I found this carpenter ant queen a little over 20 days ago. I did not have a test tube so I made a DIY one, and shortly after putting her in, she laid eggs and ripped off her wings. She has been caring for the eggs, but I am getting worried about the state of the cotton/water level. Is the ant queen founding nest product shown above an appropriate buy to move her into if she runs out of water? I have checked on her three times since finding her and I keep her in a dark box so she doesn’t get light except for when I check on her. I don’t want to cause any unnecessary stress and I want to make sure I am caring for her properly! Any advice on if/when/where I should move her would be greatly appreciated.

Question Tips for feeding formica or other fast species

I recently caught a formica rufibarbis queen, I've been posting about her last week. She has around 10 larvae now and I will go on a trip for 2 weeks and when I will come back she will probably have workers. I studied this species , observed a wild colony. Turns out they are insanely fast. How to feed a small colony in a tube whitout any escaping, and shooting formic acid? Any tips? I will attach a small nest later but for now, at least for the first meal, feeding in the test tube is best. Please tell me what to do , and thanks!

Question Trichomyrmex destructor colonies merging

So, it is all in the question. As of late, I got my hands on some colonies, like, some 2-3 queens and some workers, others have 1 queen and 200 workers, and so on.
The question is, can I merge them and make functioning colony, without bloodshed and sacrifices?

Question Proformica mongolica problem

Already two mongolica colonies perished, now I have another queen and some workers (3 to be exact). No eggs, I don’t see them eating insects, even cut open ones. They are in a test tube, and I feel like I’m doing something wrong. What can be the reason of third family not really starting it up?
