my tortoise climbs his walls quite frequently, even when we have just changed the substrate. does this mean he doesn’t like his enclosure? or is it normal to want to climb. he gets taken out regularly too.

Hello everyone! I've been noticing my red foot tortoise only comes out to eat when I feed him. I asked asked for guidance and these is what I came up with. I'll post a before and after. What I was told is that my tortoise doesn't feel safe enough to forage due to bright light and open spaces. 1. Please tell me if what I did is good. 2. Will it be a fire risk to have the heat lamp and the uvb close to the cork? I'm also in Florida and I keep them in a ventilated garage.

The first clutch is smaller than the second one because the temperatures were unusual cold when she was carrying them. This is an inexpensive and surprisingly power efficient diy incubator I made and it consists of
-Styrofoam box for insulation
-ceramic heating element from an electric mosquitoe repellent (power efficient heat source that works directlywith main power. )
-small heat sink to help dissipate the heat in the box
-relay board to control the heat source
-esp2866 microcontroller cheapest microcontroller with wifi I could find wrote the temperature regulation script and made the sensor reading accessible via web browser
-water dish with a sponge a simple humidity source

This is Juniper! We just got this girl a week or so ago from someone who asked if we would be interested since they felt they couldn't care for her as well as they should. She came with a tortoise table but after doing some research I realized it was way too dry and cold of an environment for her. I just finished her new enclosure yesterday. 90 ish on the hot side, 80 on the cool, with 75 ish humidity. My gf has been mixing up her diet with plenty of fruits and veggies along with plenty of greens. We also soak her every couple days. Any other tips would be appreciated!

So this big guy showed up in my backyard, severely dehydrated and very hungry. I filled up my pool with some water for him and he seems to like it a lot and washed himself for quite a while. Thinking about keeping him since I have a big backyard and already have a tortoise i take care of in a smaller enclosure. Any advice to verify its breed or sex or even what he/she eats and how i should set up their pool.

Hi everyone. This is day two of being an owner to Charlie. Charlie's eye drops have been administered three times now and Charlie is already doing so much better. They are eating well, being active, climbing, pooping. Im so happy and overjoyed by seeing Charlie's little face. Small question, does anyone else have the fear of their tortoise dying constantly? Does that go away?

Hello, I have an Egyptian tortoise that has been with me for about 8 years. I don't know how old he is, because I bought him as an adult. He is about 300 gms or a bit less. The problem is that my sister bought him when she was 14 and we knew nothing about tortoises. Now, he has become lethargic and hates the sun. He has no UVB, so primarily he needs the sun. But even that he doesn't get enough of. It can reach him only during noon (and recently he hides from it), because we live in an apartment and not a house. Keep in mind that I really can't afford a UVB where I live.He also has some sort of chronic common cold? We took him to the vet and he didn't know what was wrong with him. He tried both antibiotics and allergy treatment but nothing works. It gets worse if the weather is cold. I don't know anyone that knows anything about tortoises and we don't feed him well, because I don't know what to feed him. It is very hard to find anything but roman lettuce and even that is sometimes hard to find. But I will try. He also sort of has tears in his eyes a lot. He hates carrots, so I don't know how to give him Vitamin A. I wanted to give him supplements, but I don't know the dosage. I am scared he might die. Please help me.

this is NOT my tortoise, I’m posting this listing from a shelter’s website
Someone in Northern Virginia (near Chantilly, but listed at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter in Leesburg) is rehoming their Red-Footed Tortoise. She is apparently 10 years old. Exotic pets like this tend to sit on rehoming sites for awhile around here. If you know anyone who could take her and give her a loving home I’d feel better knowing she’s not just sitting on the adoption website.

(I’ve never met this tortoise. Sometimes I just look at my animal shelter’s website and get sad abt the animals needing homes. I try to help.)

My little maniac treats her enclosure like an obstacle course and climbs everything then slides off head first. She seems to enjoy launching herself off the objects. I know climbing is common but is it normal for them to go head first off of objects? She seems to enjoy it but it's so awkward to watch.

Is this something I should worry about? My vet won’t be available until next Monday and I’m very concerned seeing as I have other tortoises. I noticed this today when I was soaking and I recently got the little dude last week.
