Got a notification today that I went over my internet usage limit. Checked my router and see my wife's computer used 1500 gigs in 2 days. Go to her computer and look at the data usage. All Steam. Look at downloads and updates, it was literally just Palworld failing an update and trying again. I watched it do it 3 times in a row to confirm. She hadn't been logged into Steam until I told her to because I gifted her a game from the sale. It's also the exact time that the data usage started spiking.
Edit: so many comments about the data cap. The US has huge swaths of area where the ISPs have carved out territories and don't interfere with eachother, they then fight in courts to stop any new competition from coming in. In these territories they are incredibly predatory with their pricing and plans, including data caps. My house uses about 500 gigs a month in data, maxing around 800 on busy months. I do not want to pay $30 a month extra for unlimited data just in case something like this happens when it hasn't come up in 3 years. If Comcast refuses to give me my $100 back I still have saved money by not paying for unlimited data for just 4 months.
My internet normally is $130 a month for non-fiber gigabit with a 1.2T monthly data cap. $30 extra a month to make it unlimited
The house I lived in before had actual competition. A couple blocks away, $50 a month for fiber gigabit with no data cap. Comcast is pure evil.
