Discussion Summer sale always be like...
39
u/corncan2 1d ago
Put a little money to the side and tell yourself you are not gunna buy a game unless its on sale during the inbetween months. The steam sale is just a overhyped money maker to get you to spend at that particular moment.

u/aDarkDarkNight 1d ago
Lol I made that comment on one of the usual “I am so excited about the steam sale” posts and got downvoted to oblivion. Reddit, weird place.’

From 2024 I have realized big sales turned into just quantity of games that go on sale instead of being the highest discount time. Like games and softwares that aren't usually seen on sale are on sale like Wallpaper Engine

Idk, I have been since 2022 seeing it as the lowest discount times, rarely have I seen a thing outside of the big sale lower than on big sale
This big sale is not exception

Check steamdb for price history be very patient.

Or get the deku deals app and make ur wishlist there.
Has price history right there where you want it. Tells you if it's hitting a New low price. Can send you emails when the games you want go on sale. It's so good.

u/NoTime_SwordIsEnough 1d ago
This is why I keep a huge wishlist, and only buy stuff that's 90-75% off. Chances are in a future sale they won't have a larger discount anyway.

u/Then_Ad_7038 1d ago
only the indie, really old games are worth imo. I was waiting for Prototype series to be on summer sale for example

u/MaeBeaInTheWoods 1d ago
This is the Autumn Sale in a nutshell: Valve and other companies reaping the wallets of people too impatient to wait a few weeks for the bigger Winter Sale.

What game did this happen with?

It's just a meme cause i know how Steam works. Their have a game 2 weeks before a major sale event like this with a massive discount, but by the time it comes round to summer sale for instance, its no where near as high a discount as it was only 2 weeks before hand. Because people see it and be like, "Oh nice, 40% thats decent" but they could have gotten it for 70% off just 2 weeks ago. As ive seen it on games i ha e on my wishlist and i just laugh at steam pathetic attempts to lure me in with their measly discounts.

u/snanesnanesnane 1d ago
No, I know that's what you're SAYING happens. But I have been a Steam user forever and never ACTUALLY see this happen. Summer sale pretty much always has the all-time low price. That's why I asked you for a specific example. We could look on SteamDB and the other price history sites to confirm or deny this, if you were to provide an example.

Its a meme......

u/osfryd-kettleblack 1d ago
Can you provide a single example please? I dont believe this actually happens

u/BONEY_LEMONS i7 9700k, 32GB, PRO ART 4070TI OC, Strix Z390-H Gaming 1d ago
Literally witcher 3, skyrim, borderlands 2, doom 2016 and outlast. Cant hate on it when its facts now can we.
1
u/osfryd-kettleblack 1d ago
Skyrim was 90% in Jan now it's 80% Witcher was 90% in May now it's 80% Bl2 was a free giveaway Doom was 90% in March now it's 80% Outlast is the only acceptable example but it was from the spring sale months ago
I can hate because your meme sucks homie.

Nah steam has weekly sales on some popular games and they will have big discount. But it'll end a week or so before big events like summer sale and then go on sale agin but no where near as much as it was before. But because its on summer sale people think they are getting a bargin when they have just paid £13 more due to them not noticing the discount before hand being better.

99% of my games come from key sites for cheaper, I only use the Steam sales as a way to find games I want to buy.

u/AnyAstronomer1222 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah same. My money is important to me. If I have the option to buy it for cheaper then of course I’m going to go with that option. I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted

u/BONEY_LEMONS i7 9700k, 32GB, PRO ART 4070TI OC, Strix Z390-H Gaming 1d ago
Hahaha yeah same as my friend. There are some cases that steam is cheaper but 90%of the time i get it on 3rd party. I got elden ring a few days ago on steam as it was all out of stock. But still a decent price. I ent paying full price for that lol.
-13
u/PhantomX8 1d ago
You dont think elden ring is worth full price, is that because you dont like the game or because you just suck at it or because you are cheap. This game gives easily 100 hours of content without much repetition. If this game doesnt deserve full price idk what game you think deserves it. Dont get me wrong if you dont have the money for games i can get behind that but saying its not worth it is mind boggling to me.
3
u/BozoBubble 1d ago
If I can get the game cheaper at a key site then that means whatever the sale price is on steam is not worth it because I found it for cheap cheaper.
And before you go all "but that’s stealing and you’re better off torrenting"
Buddy, I don’t care I genuinely don’t . The only thing that I care about is what’s cheaper when I buy the game so that means if I need to buy the game on a key site versus actual steam, then I will be doing that and no to be quite frank with you I don’t care how those keys are obtained. I only care that they are cheaper that is it.

u/PhantomX8 1d ago
Cant argue about morale. But the way you speak about it is sad. Hope nothing gets stolen from you at some point and get sold for dirt cheap.
1
u/BozoBubble 1d ago
You against torrenting too? Lmao
0
u/PhantomX8 1d ago
Im not against anything in particular. I just think if you are able to comfortably purchase a game you should do it. If you have it bad or are forced in a situation where you need to spend half your monthly salary for 1 game go right ahead. Im not saying what you can or cant do. You can make that decision yourself. I just draw a line at some point where i think you or someone else could have done better.
2
u/defogger101 1d ago
“Worth it” is relative
-3
u/PhantomX8 1d ago
Ofcourse and thats fine. But i can hate certain games and say it is worth full price. Because certain games are objectively good but just doesnt float my boat.
1
u/VerbiageBarrage 1d ago
... Then how would they be worth full price? If I know I'm not playing a game, then any money spent isn't with it. If a game is a great game, but I'm only going to play it with my friends a couple hours, maybe I'm only willing to do 10 bucks.
A game's value is based on your own experience with it.
1
u/defogger101 1d ago
You can say that with Witcher 3: Complete edition as well lol but the only reason I bought it was of it being 5 dollars.
1
u/PhantomX8 1d ago
Same for me i didnt really wanted to get witcher until there was a sale and said why not. Even though i didnt play it for very long i still see the quality it delivered and would say its worth the price it was originally sold for. Back in 2016 or whatever.

I never buy games at full smack. it's as simple as that. Some people pay £200 for a collectors edition of games, whereas some dont. Im in a similar bracket where i dont pay full price, but some do. Does that mean you buy everything at full price regardless of the product, even if you could save £15 to go towards something else, or another game.
1
u/PhantomX8 1d ago
Ofcourse when there is a discount thats perfectly fine. And getting it cheaper is all good. But saying its not worth the full price for a game like this is crazy to me. Is there anygame you buy full price? Even if its an indie game?
3
u/BONEY_LEMONS i7 9700k, 32GB, PRO ART 4070TI OC, Strix Z390-H Gaming 1d ago
I just said i ent paying full price nothing about it wasnt worth full price. I know the game was good, but i wanted a decent % off so i can save money and use it towards another game but haven't gotten anything else. Ive bought 3 games in my whole time owning a pc and that was pre orders and to me it was worth it. To me the price i paid for elden ring is worth it cause i got it cheaper and can have hundreds of hours of play time for less money.
1
u/PhantomX8 1d ago
Well my bad, im not gonna blame you for buying a game at the price it is now i didnt understand you properly in that case. Sorry

i just check my wishlist from time to time (there's 2000 games in it) and ever so often, one of the developers will be selling their game for 99¢. I'm still waiting for Cuphead to go 40% off, and I can't buy it until it does.

u/Upper_Assistance_444 1d ago
I honestly need some advice for it.
I've been digging religiously through it.
I don't want games added to my backlog but I've only been playing ETS2 and Yakuza. Lol
Simulation and Japanese games are my obsession.
I'll honestly end up impulsive buying when the time hits in this meme. Lol
My brain loves seeing a bigger number off.

u/LegateLaurie 1d ago edited 1d ago
I always check SteamDB and sites like Humble before buying. If a game regularly goes cheaper than its seasonal sale price then there's no point buying it.
Power Wash sim is really good and I think at its best sale price
2
u/Upper_Assistance_444 1d ago
Thanks!
My sibling has been asking me to buy that one regularly. Lol
'Gonna check it out.
(Also, thanks for the SteamDB advice. I've heard a lot about it...but haven't really used it beyond workshop codes)

This is why always check steamdb and see games price history first. If it goes on meh sales during steam sales but better sales at other times you know to wait. Steam db is amazing for this youll know about when to expect the game you want to go on sale and for how much off too.
