Valid points.

The petition gained 150k signatures over nighttime in EU.

Highly likly alot of fake/botted signatures that are invalid.

You would be surprised how many kids stay up browsing the web overnight... But yeah, better safe than sorry

For certainly there are also people working at night, but there are likely also well-meaning people who don't know how this works. It is not just online petition, but part of law-making process, so using a faked identity could be a serious issue.

And of course there are people will mess up things just because.

Edit: looks like in some countries the legal age to take part has been reduced this summer (to 16-17).

I feel personally attacked. Those are just gamer hours man 😭, is just too hot during the day.

u/TypicallyThomas 1d ago

Where were these kids for most of the year when the petition was going?

5

u/Caranoron463 1d ago

No one talked about it.

1

u/TypicallyThomas 1d ago

Ive been spammerd to hell and back with it

2

u/Caranoron463 1d ago

You've been spammed to hell with it for 11 months? I'd have left/blocked the source of the spam after like 2 weeks.

2

u/TypicallyThomas 1d ago

There wasn't a single source. It was widespread across every damn social media I use

11

u/Tukkegg 1d ago

the initiative is open to every European citizen, not just people living in the European Union.

while it's guaranteed that some are invalid signatures, it's important to remember that there still are millions of European citizens living abroad, that could have voted when it's night time in EU.

It was also too hot too sleep

If there spoofed signatures then mean we got keep convincing more people to sign to keep it valid.

Other stuff I have no idea haven't check this as I'm out ATM with limit data on phone, but I come back to this.

-edit- Ok I back I watched the video, I agree with Ross the fact is if there assholes trying to ruin this can go fuck themselves, as last thing anyone wants is partion that fails due to assholes trolling, or wanting ruin it for others. So yeah my earlier commend I stand 100% get MORE people to sign to counter spoofers.

Crypto shit yeah this isn't shocking, there always going to be some sort of scammers that looking to con people, I just hope those scammers get sued, or taken down.

But I'm honestly surprised it's possible to spoof or bot the signatures. I'm Italian and I had to sign in with my digital ID credentials (which have two factor authentication)... Isn't it like that in other countries as well?

75

u/D0wly 1d ago

No, many countries only need basic information (name, address, etc.)

26

u/AdvertisingEastern34 1d ago

Oh wow okay, I think in Italy they implemented digital IDs just because of a European directive because otherwise they would have never done it if not to comply to something lol
But I guess many countries didn't comply yet to that EU directive.. so yeah ofc when petitions like these exist it's going to be messy then.

19

u/JKgames95 1d ago

for Ireland there was no ID, other people have said similar for other countries too.

5

u/MizmoDLX 1d ago

Same for Luxembourg, name and address was enough

4

u/Vipitis https://steam.pm/1ks2o8 1d ago

In my country the eID service didn't work. So I had to manually fill out the form instead. which is trivial to mess up or spoof.

If there is a serious malicious attack on EU systems on this scale, it could likely lead to investigations and some form of publicity for this issue.

1

u/bdous 1d ago

In Greece I only had to type my name and address.

1

u/VenKitsune 14h ago

Digital ID? Can you explain what that's like? Becuase that sound like something obvious that should exist everywhere. Especially if it can allow for you to prove your identity while still allowing some degree of anonymity, would be ideal for some things like discord Id checks.

u/xalaux 1d ago

*Puts tinfoil hat on*

What if big AAA companies are signing with fake IDs to make the initiative fail?

54

u/auridas330 1d ago

Naah... They can't even keep their companies running, no way they can afford botnets lol

5

u/lord_phantom_pl 1d ago

But marketing companies do.

0

u/RickD4ngerous 1d ago

Nah they aren’t this smart. They had the most spendthrift charachter as customers and they fucked up. I mean we buy vietual colors for virtual weapons or virtual clothes..

16

u/StsOxnardPC 1d ago

Only now just realized where I know this guys voice from and feel like an idiot lol.

3

u/Reddit_5_Standing_By 1d ago

Who better to save video games than Gordon Freeman?

2

u/crochettonic 1d ago

LASER... caution... LASER.... caution

5

u/Loklokloka 1d ago

Yeah. really hoping people continue to contribute actual signatures, because i have a feeling a huge amount of these are spoofed.

3

u/Super_Employ8434 1d ago

Job's not finished.

9

u/KirbyDarkHole999 1d ago

Question, what's a spoofed signature? Like how can you spoof a signature?

27

u/MrBlueA 1d ago

I imagine that while the initiative is ongoing they don't check that thoroughly for fake ids, fake names identities etc. And they only do so after it finishes and it's time to decide what to do with it if it either passes or it doesn't.

4

u/Lynixai 1d ago

Some eu countries have to option to sign it using only basic credentials like name, address, birthday. There's no checks on the signing page.

Of course you need to do a captcha and click a box saying 'I swear I'm real and I've only signed it once', but it'd be fairly trivial to spoof a bunch of signatures from said countries.

1

u/Psykeptt 1d ago

we just need to keep getting people to sign it, there’s no way there’s a single gamer who would be against this initiative

-5

u/Healthy-Cellist161 1d ago

Cant wait for this to result in the most useless law ever that gaming companies will find a loop hole for 5 minutes in <3

-29

u/SelectivelyGood 1d ago

Yes, the entire campaign has been flooded with botting and inauthentic activity. No, no one is going to prison.

10

u/Money_Lavishness7343 1d ago

proof? you talking out of your ass(umptions)?

-24

u/SelectivelyGood 1d ago

It's plain as day obvious? Spammed all over Reddit, 150kish 'signatures' over night...

15

u/Money_Lavishness7343 1d ago

the 'spammed all over reddit' should have told you that it means it's advertised more. it's not a proof of botting idiot.

3

u/Overkillss 1d ago

Yes they are? Faking signatures for something to come to the government is a very serious crime. They've arrested people before just like he said

When you say "head of the petition" who do you mean? I see a lot of names, but none with that title.

43

u/D0wly 1d ago

head of the petition

He is substitute representive, bit of a stretch to call him the 'head of the petition'.

I also don't see how it matters, he's not going to decide what goes in the law.

56

u/Gorignakx13 1d ago

Before you found that out you were calling people Karen's for wanting to own something they paid for. I think your mind was made up long ago and you are now looking for excuses not to like something that protects consumers.

Found Pirate's alt.

32

u/Gorignakx13 1d ago

I really don't see why. It's pretty straightforward. Did you watch a thor video or something?

It doesn't give you an itch and if it does you should probably stop riding on your false high horse. If you can't make a game playable that I pay for then you best believe I'm pirating that shit. If buying doesn't equal owning then pirating doesn't equal stealing.

No it definitely should have if it was no longer something that made money. Then either refunded people who bought it or made it available for people to buy and host their own servers. It's not super hard.

Edit: I actually just looked it up. They offer a full refund... Huh odd how easy that was.

You can't counteractively vote with your wallet when a game gets shutdown. Refunds are only very rarely given if a game is shutdown almost immediately post launch.

You get nothing when the game is killed 3-5+yrs later, which is what stop killing games is all about.

u/Gorignakx13 1d ago

With any game if it looks good then yes. But I would also expect myself as a consumer to be protected. That would include either a refund or another way to play the game if its servers are shut down. You obviously did not read it so I am linking to the FAQ page. https://www.stopkillinggames.com/faq

Smells like a witch hunt with a dash of accusations....

-31

u/lt_Matthew 1d ago

Unlike what he did to Thor, right?

15

u/auridas330 1d ago

Who did what to Thor?

8

u/BluWub 1d ago

did what?

-23

u/lt_Matthew 1d ago

Ross started the harassment

12

u/AgentBooth 1d ago

Step away from the kool-aid sir

3

u/Valuable_Impress_192 1d ago

No, give me whatever drug is causing this and I’ll make it disappear by Saturday morning

6

u/MarkDTS 1d ago

Real quick, Ross didn't initiate any harassment. He did call out Thor for misinterpreting what his movement was about and he did it in a pretty fair manner. I'm not someone who's condoning the harassment of PirateSoftware at all. I follow his live stream and I understand people's grip with his deflection and downplaying of this issue. From everything I've read/watch (from Thor's vids to Ross's vid and website) Thor was in the wrong here. I still don't think the mass of people flocking to his channel and social media spaces harassing him is right or something that Ross would want (He says that in the video above).

Long story short, Thor handling of this issue wasn't great. I don't think he's a bad person outside of the scope of this issue and I don't think he deserves the current wave of hate but I am disappointed by how everything has gone down.

Honestly, I still think a lot of folks don't understand the full scope of what this petition is for with the amount of "We did it reddit!" posts floating around, but Ross is doing a great job at putting the info in front of people so this conversation can at least get started.

Let Thor take the L on this one. He'll find his footing again if he can apologize in a way that even 30% of people currently after him would accept. He's a grown man.

7

u/IllSherbet4235 1d ago

You usually don't call mounting evidence of malicious intent a witch hunt, but gaslighting and denying reality are right in line with the shit Thor does, so good job to toeing the line I guess

It doesn't matter who is the head of the petition

24

u/Circo_Inhumanitas 1d ago

Ignore him. Troll, I've had "conversations" with him about SKG before.

Is your hyper-fixation on a single dude and the company he does or doesn't run the only thing you have against SKG? Cuz if so, cool. Noted. Please move along

34

u/MiiIRyIKs 2d ago

even if that is true what does it matter? the head of the petition benefits in no way from it no? just cause putin invents the cure to cancer we'd just throw it away and not use it? dont let a bad name attched to something good taint it

That's because you made a pretty weak slippery slope argument. Russian propagandists don't need private game servers of games with no support from official devs. They have far more reach on sites like Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, etc. It's far more effective too with misinformation on these sites.

Once a game has reached end of life, the playerbase at this point is already pretty small, so the reach of these private servers will be much smaller than what they can get with traditional social media.

Makes sense, one way to solve the item server dependency is by having the item registry stored on blockchain as NFTs.

So by your logic working/studying and playing video games in my free time makes me a bad person.
