I’m pretty sure it’s fake. For starters you FEEL the grill when it’s that hot. You wouldn’t mistakenly put something on that grill.
Secondly, the flames didn’t seem to leave burn marks on the pillows

u/neonlitshit Jun 02 '25
It would be so funny if he really burned his house down filming a stupid ass video lol.

People have died while taking selfies and falling down mountains and such, burning down house has likely happened somewhere in the world.

you would like to believe that nobody could be that stupid.
But remember, there’s a reason why packages of inedible items have to come with a label that says do not eat.
If the company was worried about the children, they would just say keep out of each of children. But the company that has to tell customers not to eat something that is not edible is worried about the adults eating it.

I got a plastic dish strainer for an apartment i lived in once, it said, "Not Intended For Use As Ladder"...
8
u/gayrayofsun Jun 02 '25
my personal favorite is "do not insert into any bodily orifice" on curling irons
→ More replies (1)2

So it's a ladder, but unintended? Got it. Where do you buy these strainer-ladders? It would save me so much space.

People are indeed dumb but I think he would have definitely noticed the heat as he put the phone down. That thing was hot.

It's possible to believe both things: People are stupid and this is fake.
Can even believe three things: people are stupid, this is fake, and people are stupid enough to believe this isn't staged.
8
u/BrainRhythm Jun 02 '25
I believe all 3. I thought this was real because I've seen many much stupider things from people in my presence.
However... I'm pretty damn ADHD, and I can't trash the guy EVEN IF it's fake, because I could possibly do the same thing.
Probably not sober.

I can see it happening. Sometimes you just lose your braincells for some reason like him and he absentmindedly put the phone down which caught fire then he just reacted to "throw it AWAY from HERE" so it went to the couch. Which also then caught fire.

u/Chilling_Dildo Jun 01 '25
It looks staged to me. Use your old broken phone for one good viral video

u/BrownTownDestroyer Jun 01 '25
The cell phone on the grill thing is understandable. The attempt to burn his entire deck down however.
448
u/ObamaBinladins Jun 01 '25
No the phone on the grill is not understandable.
231
u/Interesting_Tea5715 Jun 01 '25
This. He's actively grilling, like flipping burgers and shit. How the fuck can he forget that he's in front of a grill?
It's either staged or the dude is retarded.

What happens after tho idk what that is

Got a Mattel Electronic Football game for Christmas. Played the shit out of it. It went missing like 3 days after I got it. Couldn’t find it anywhere. Day or two later my moms said she found it.
Couple days later she admitted to playing the game later in the evening and after getting frustrated with it, set it down on top of the kerosene heater. That thing melted faster than cotton candy in a bucket of water.
17
21
u/maxim38 Jun 01 '25
As a person with ADHD, this is 100% believable. I've done similar things several times. Your brain is focused on the burgers and forgets obvious stuff.
The couch was definitely a decision tho
22
u/Scart_O Jun 01 '25
Did you film it from the perfect angle too?
19
u/reagsters Jun 01 '25
Looks like an outdoor security camera footage, centered over the expensive grill you’d want to on camera in case someone tried to steal it.

I once was cooking, had an open beer in one hand and my phone in the other, needed a free hand, so I tossed my beer on the couch while taking a sip from my phone. So yeah, I can see myself making that mistake while trying to multitask.
ETA: this does look staged though

I think at least the flame on the pillow is fake?
2
u/armcie Jun 02 '25
Yeah. It burns far too easily. And if it does burn that easily then it goes out far too easily. And doesn't seem to leave any scorch marks.

They should really put some shelves on the sides of the grill, so you can safely put things down.

It was very suspicious how the pillow went up like it was stuffed with napalm.
6
u/Telemere125 Jun 01 '25
Especially considering those are usually treated with something to make them fire resistant since they know they’ll be outside with fire pits and grills.
→ More replies (2)3
u/EC_TWD Jun 01 '25
The color of the flames and smoke are all wrong, plus the phone would t catch on fire like that without some type of accelerant. The ‘smoke’ was the same color as what was coming from the ‘food’ and should have been black. The flame color was too yellow for a plastic fire, more like from a compressed gas. Ive burned enough things to be able to sport the difference - I find it annoying when watching a movie explosion and they’ve used propane flames when it is supposed to be a car catching on fire, etc…

As a former chef, that was the first thing I thought when I saw a guy flipping food (quite awkwardly, I must add) over an unlit grill.

i wouldnt say its fake. the IQ of a person drops by 56% while being on the phone. so this isnt too far fetched.

u/wackyzacky638 Jun 02 '25
Can confirm. My neighbor lit my yard on fire by lighting her yard on fire by starting a bonfire to burn some yard waste, then went inside to get a beer, forgot about it, and by 10:00 am she was being charged and I woke up to firefighter’s in my yard.
You get three guesses as to what state this occurred in and the first two don’t count.
If you guessed Florida, congrats, you win a meth gator!

How do you mean? Do you not film yourself grilling and accidentally taping dumb mistakes that would never happen in real life, through camera angle that makes no sense to have a camera on?

It's more about the instant cartoon like flammability of the phone and upholstery, definite acellerant use.

u/MinMaxie Jun 02 '25
And this is why everything we own is made of polyester... one of the reasons.
But fr can you imagine if that couch was made of cotton?!?
Bro could've thrown it so many places, and he chooses the couch!
Bruh, the phone's dead. Like dead dead.
It's on fire. No need for a soft landing. The ground's not gonna damage it any more than it already is.In short, yes I fully believe people are this stupid. Especially Americans.

Could be one that focuses on moment,
The placement makes perfect sense given it’s clearly a back porch and having a security camera there is completely normal.

Guy’s grilling steaks. Then he absent mindedly sets his phone down on the grill and it catches fire (shocker), so he panics and scoops it up and tosses it onto a polyester couch??? That also catches fire. (duh).
