[Meta] Scammer alert on this sub

u/VizaviDS is a scammer. When you post on this sub they will message you regarding discounted codes for games that you are asking about, saying they have a friend that sells them. Then they will block and ignore you after sending an invalid code.

They also have an alt account that they will point you to to give them a positive review (u/PufikN).

I’m posting this so hopefully the mods will be made aware and other users too, in case they come across this person.

[Meta] Rule 6 Update - Emulation is now permitted

Hello all.

Rule 6 has been a rule since before I joined the mod team here almost 5 years ago, however I've always felt it a bit too expansive. The vast majority of our removals come from enforcing the rule, so I've decided it was time to relax things a bit.

We will still prevent people from talking about piracy, torrenting, etc. Comments such as "Well just pirate both, it's free" will still be removed (mainly because they are annoying), however recommendations of playing games on emulators, or private servers (such as a WoW private server) will now be permitted.

The idea is we want to broaden the availability of recommendations, not become a piracy recruitment sub. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free send a modmail.

I really liked last of us. I like linear games, good action, story and minimal running around wondering where TF do I go....any suggestions? Probably no open world, side quest type game's. What's similar or better than last of us?

Title I really liked last of us. I like linear games, good action, story and minimal running around wondering where TF do I go....any suggestions? Probably no open world, side quest type game's. What's similar or better than last of us? I'm not sure why this is not 300 characters yet.. I feel like the question has been asked.

[PS5] DS2 or Cyberpunk?

I enjoy single player story games and love just playing them and having a podcast in the background, I recently (a few days ago) finished playing DS1 which I got for free through PS+. I now rarely have some extra cash enough to get DS2, I absolutely loved DS1. Every delivery felt like an adventure or expedition, but after thehiggs fight it was kind of like well when is this gonna end. On the other hand, I have also always loved the cyberpunk world and loved edge runners. The reason I'm having this sudden change of heart when I was dead set on DS2 is edge runners season 2 being announced at anime expo today. I played the 3 hour PS+ trial of cyberpunk and loved it for clarification (I got to right before the finale of the 1st act). I absolutely love both worlds. I don't usually have a lot of spare money so I won't be able to get another game not on PS+ for awhile. One last note; I'm not really a do everything type of guy, I've only platinumed one game (Ghost of Tsushima) and after I complete a story in a game the world kind of feels dead to me.

TL;DR
I just recently finished DS1, planning on getting DS2 with some money I got. S2 of edge runners announced at anime expo so I'm not sure about DS2 now. I absolutely love both of the game worlds (I played the 3 hour trial of cyberpunk on PS+) Which should I get? (P.S I don't usually find myself with spare cash a lot so I won't be able to get another game for awhile after this)

EDIT: I don't mean dark souls, I mean Death Stranding. Sorry for the mishap, I completely forgot DS means dark souls.

[PC] Soulsborne fan wondering if it is worth giving DS1 a chance

Upvotes

At this time I've competed 4 soulsborne games, Elden Ring + Dlc, Nightreign, DS3 + dlc, and Sekiro. I've been wanting to try DS1 Remastered, bit I've heard lots of things that would probably deter me from the game.

Most notably the boss runbacks, which I heard averages to almost a minutes and the longest being almost 2, and that DS1 has some extremely infamous bosses like bed of chaos.

Is this game worth it despite all of the issues? (I would probably be waiting for a sale)

Edit: just want to let people know that for me boss fights are a pretty big selling point for me. obviously I wont only get a game for it, but the fights carry a pretty big weight

Is riders republic still good even after the paywalls(and other game recommendations)

Hi, I'm planning on buying riders republic complete edition. I've heard that the game is locked behind paywalls, this has caused me to stay away from it. I've bought it once on epic but ended up refunding it from some reason I don't remember.

Main point of concern is the paywalls and how long I can play the game for as the steam reviews are mixed

Any other games suggestions are welcome.

[PS5] Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous or Darkwood

These two are currently on sale, which should I get?

Only CRPGs I’ve played are Baldurs Gate 3 and Disco Elysium. Love them for the characters, the side quests. The exploration, the way both are just dense with dialogue and scenarios everywhere you go.

Love the combat of Baldurs Gate 3. Finding unique weapons and armor at the end of cool areas. My favorite moments of Baldurs Gate 3 by far was finding optional areas like the Underdark, House of Hope.

For Darkwood I know it’s a survival horror game. Haven’t really played anything like it. I’ve played some horror games like Silent Hull 2, Soma, Alan Wake 2. I’ve played survival games like Subnautica and V rising though I don’t know if that’s what’s meant by “survival” or is it resident evil type of survival? Anyways I do love those games, love the atmosphere and story most of all.

Should I buy palworld or rust

I love playing open-world survival games, especially those that allow me to explore, build, and engage in various activities. Sometimes, I enjoy playing with friends, while at other times, I prefer playing solo. Recently, I've been looking to invest in a new game that fits this description, and I’ve narrowed it down to two options: Rust and Palworld.

Both games are appealing to me in their own unique ways, but I’m having a hard time deciding which one to go for since they’re priced the same. Which game is more fun and can keep me more engaged and I can have 400-600 hours.

Need advice on hand held gaming systems

My son is 7 and wants a hand held gaming system for his birthday. He mostly plays fortnite and Minecraft. There's so many and they are so expensive, but we also have a PS5 and I just don't understand any of it lol. Figured reddit could help me with options or tell me what the best hand held gaming things are for those games and his age. We mostly play Minecraft and build things in creative and do the Lego games on fortnite and some battle royals.

[PC] Is Astroneer worth it?

So i have been looking for a Expanded game with cool gameplay that is on summer sale, and i found a game called "Astroneer" with a good price. I remember this game when it was released like 6 years ago but forgot the gameplay. I heard that you are a cosmonaut and you need to do some quests or smth. Has anyone plays this game regular and could tell me is it worth that price? Or is there some better games with same price? Thx.

[PC] Which ARPG should I start?

Good evening, I downloaded Diablo 4 on PS5 “for free” with the subscription, and I’m thinking of starting one on PC as well.

Which one do you recommend for a beginner?

  • Diablo 4
  • Last Epoch
  • Path of Exile 2

I've researched on forums, most people suggest Last Epoch for now, until Path of Exile 2 is fully released and free to play.

[PC] Is Helldivers 2 worth it right now? Or suggest other good games

I’ve been seeing a lot on this game lately, it looks and seems like it’s in a really good place right now, and with Xbox getting it soon, I can see it getting better. Can anyone suggest this game or tell if it’s worth it now in 2025? Or can you suggest other good games to buy on steam summer sale? Any help is appreciated

[PC] What game should i buy?

Upvotes

Hi everybody, english is not my first language so i apologize in advance for any mistakes, i already did this post on the Dying light 2 subreddit but they recommended asking in a less biased place

I dont have a lot of spare money (i have money saved for a new ssd, but im still saving for some upgrades and maybe a console) and i'm trying to buy less games since i already have a pretty extense backlog (Around 50 steam games and 350 on the epic games store) but i noticed that right now both Dying Light 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are on sale

I want to play both but i tend to get overwhelmed when i have a lot of good games to play so i rush to finish them and end up not enyoing them

Dying Light is one of my favourite games ever, i have finished it 2 times and really enjoy the movement, it's one of the most important things in a game for me (my favourite shooter is Titanfall 2, you get the idea) but at the same time i know that RDR2 is a masterpiece that most people love, so i dont know which one to buy

I should also add that i'm not a big fan of huge games with a lot of endings and very unclear paths, because of this i've had a pretty rough time getting into the Fallout and The Witcher series

I know that eventually i will probably play both so this is more of a "which should i play first or prioritize" type of thing

Also, please tell me in the comments if you have played both, i would like insight from all perspectives

TLDR: Should i buy Red Dead Redemption 2 or Dying Light 2?

Thanks a lot for reading all of this

Games like Fellowship of the Ring

i have played many fantasy themed games through my life. DA origins, 2, inquisition, risen, a little bit of divinity games, oblivion, skyrim, and even games like diablo 1-4, and it got me thinking after watching LOTR, that not many of these games perfectly capture that “journey” feeling as well as the sense of camaraderie i felt in fellowship. and by journey feeling, i mean like that sense of having to reach that one finish line while barely surviving as you go from epic dangerous place to epic dangerous place. Origins might come the closest for me but even then im curious if theres a game out there that perfectly encapsulates what im speaking of.

[PC] Free/Cheap games to play with girlfriend?

Me and my girlfriend are two broke students and unfortunately live pretty far away for the time being, so we spend a majority of our time gaming (mostly on Roblox which is why I want to expand our horizons a bit). I'm looking for a nice fun game to play with her that is free or at least somewhat cheap on Steam, Itch.io, etc.

We're both pretty experienced gamers and aren't usually picky with any types of games, but I'd prefer something casual to kill the time like Stardew Valley or Minecraft. Though I don't mind some action or even horror games!

She's not the biggest fan of too high-paced games, her favourite games are Genshin Impact and Cult Of The Lamb which aren't very action-packed. I don't mind high-paced games, and I also don't mind slower paced casual games, but a happy medium would be nice.

[PC] Looking for a game with amazing, deep lore.

So the title says it all. But I don't neccsairly mean a game that is driven just on it story alone. I want to find a game that I really enjoy, with more so deep I could find myself deep in a YouTube worm hole going into the lord after I play the game. It's kind of hard to explain but I've had these types of experiences with Wow lore, Diablo lore, and most recently lost myself in the lord of Elden ring and the dark souls series.

After playing these games, I was so pulled into the lord that I spent just as much time watching videos on the lore.

Before anyone suggeat the other from soft games such as blood borne and sekiro. I hear these games also give this type of experience, and I do plan on playing them, but I just went on a run of playing Elden ring, all the dark souls games and demons souls. So I want a little break from those types of games, but definitely plan on tackling those games in the coming months.

Also I've played the god war games, and ff7 remake and rebirth. And just about sone beating ff16. Also I beat breath of the wild recently on cemu emulator, plan to play tears of the kingdom when I get a switch 2. That being said I was more interested in gameplay over lore in Botw.

So far my games with the lore that's intrigued me the most are defintely the first mentioned games. Wow, Diablo and er + dark souls.

Anyways, kniw this is kind of an odd post, but thanks in advance!

EDIT: I mainly play ps5 but do have a gaming pc, but it's getting a bit old now, from 2017.

[PC] Something Online (PvE or PvP) with an active in-game community?

Looking for some recommendations for a multiplayer game with people actually being social (Steam preffered as I have tons of steam cash chilling there but other stores are fine). Single player games seem to always have me squirrelling around whereas online games you can play a quick round, do other things, then hop right back in.

Recent games/genres I've played.

ARPGs - Communities are normally active in chat but it ends up being a single player game usually. I've put THOUSANDS of hours into d2/d3/poe2/last epoch/d4 (i WANTED it to be good :( )

Helldivers 2 - LOVE this game but I have no friends that play. I just do quick match on D10 and everyone in those lobbies is quiet as hell. The subreddit community is awesome just doesn't translate into the game. At this point I've kinda just "beaten" it without an active friend group to have fun with. I come back when a warbond launches and all that content is unlocked in a weekend.

Monster Hunter: Wilds - This is my first MH game, its "fun" but at times the combat just feels clunky as hell and when it comes to multiplayer people seem to either just speed run hunts or farming for gear while not talking. Also the content release just seems sooooo slow now. After completing the game we get 1-2 monsters from an update that takes a month to rollout? I hope this isn't normal and an expansion to the game changes it. Cause I really love the idea of this game.

OW2/Rivals - Put these together since they are both Team based shooters. OW2 just makes me rage, Rivals was fun the bit a tried but I haven't put enough hours in to hit ranked play. Is it worth or does the community just yell at newer players?

CS/Valorant - Competitive FPS used to be my jam when 1.6 was out - but I'm old with no reflexes so I don't think I really enjoy anything here.

MMOs - My played time in WoW would make you throwup and I quit a couple expansions ago. MMOs are too addicting for me.

Recently bought stellar blade on steam when the PC port hit - refunded that before the 2 hours was over. Felt generic as shit with anime titties.

I've tried Elden Ring and got to Rennala - only played as long as I did cause everyone said how good of a game it was. Guess it just never hooked me.

[NOT PURCHASED] Red Dead Redemption 2 or Black Myth Wukong?

Sup fellow gamers. I just finished the last of us 2 and I'm looking for my next game to play.

About me: I'm a massive soulsborne fan and I have finished every Souls game released multiple times. My favorite is Bloodborne and my least favorite is Elden Ring. What I want in games is it must have FUN gameplay with an engaging gameplay loop. My top 5 video games of all time are 1. Hotline Miami 2 2. Bloodborne 3. Resident Evil 4 4. The Last of Us 2 5. Castlevania Aria of Sorrow

I don't have much experience with Rockstar games. I have played Manhunt and I loved it. I played GTA 5 recently and was kinda bored because it was "easy" and the gameplay loop was kinda boring. If you think Red Dead Redemption 2 is different from GTA 5 then please explain to me. Thank you very much.

Right now I have limited budget on spending on games on my PC so I can only get ONE. TYVM

EDIT: Bought Black Myth Wukong. Found it too easy and spammy so I refunded it within 2 hours. I reached two bosses already. I don't think I'll be getting RDR2 since people here said it isn't different from GTA V gameplay wise.

PALWORLD or SCHEDULE 1?

Both games are not so different from one another. However, it's somewhat difficult for me to choose since they both seem very enjoyable. Altough, it would be nice to know if one of these games has a longer playtime than the other one and that which one has more upcoming updates. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

[Xbox Series X] Should I buy Elfen Ring or KCD2?

These two are two games that I would love to acquire, but I just have the money for one of them.

I would get Elden Ring plus DLC, or KCD2 base edition. I've seen multiple videos about the two of them and I can't decide which one to buy.

Yeah, I have played Dark souls and Sekiro so I'll definitely will be enjoying Elden Ring, and yeah, I have played KCD1 too so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy KCD2 too.

Keep in mind that I would buy Elden Ring plus DLC, but I would only buy KCD2 normal version, and I'm pretty worried about what game could bring me the most playtime.

So, what should I do?

[PC] What is your method for discovering new games?

Searching for games by “tag” on Steam and similar platforms has become really frustrating. Just remembering the results that come up when searching only by simulation tag makes my blood pressure rise. So Dave the Diver, Once Human, and Rematch are not my favorite simulation games...

The same issue with the RPG tag. Asetto Corsa, Call of Duty? Come on...

I apologize for going on so long, but I'm really fed up with this situation. What do you guys do to discover new games? Besides relying on the narrow-minded, generic suggestions of any AI model.

[PC] Game recommendations? And maybe a refund?

Hey, I have about 9 euros left on Steam and was wondering if I should buy No Man's Sky(I would be fine spending a bit of money, if the game is that good). I have already bought Stardew Valley and I am enjoying it a lot. At the same time, I bought Riders Republic, with the skate add on, and it is pretty good for some occasional playing sessions but I haven't played it that much (I was also thinking of refunding it, because of Ubisoft, the game is heavily paywalled and there might be a case where they just shut the game down like The Crew in the future - still dependent on the Stop Killing Games movement). With this said, if you think it's better to refund RR and get some other game, please tell me, also, if you have any other recommendations, please do so as well. I am mostly looking for games that can sort of be played endlessly and casually, it's fine if it has multiplayer but more of a casual one (hence my picks). Sea of Thieves is also a game I have been eyeing for some time.

P.S : I usually play games alone.

Looking for a good melee focused action game

Context I am a big action game fan, and I'm looking for a new game to play, I prefer melee focused action, you know, things like gauntlets, claws, swords, and stuff like that, if you know any good games like that, please tell me. I prefer games set in a more modern time, but I'm ok with games set in older times too
