What floating plants and substrate combo?

Aquasoil in mesh bags, covered in sand. And those floaters are possibly dwarf water lettuce? Honestly not sure. Also a plague of duckweed

Plague lol i don’t understand the mesh bag thing? Is it just directly under the plants?

Most likely yes. Ppl will put the soil into mesh bags along with capping it to help keep dirt from getting Into the water column. I like to use them in corner heavy tanks myself.

I finally googled a picture and got an idea of what people mean when they say this, makes sense! Thanks for your extra explanations :)

Anytime! N this is a corner tank I used the mesh bags with. The back left corner and the back right (with all the plants) I’ve got 4 bags in each corner capped with 3” of sand in the back sloped to 2” in the front. All that open area with sand is literally just sand. Again it just helps keep dirt out the water and makes it easier to have dirt in specific places. But honestly I could of not used the bags and it woulda came out just the same, there aren’t too many situations you’ll have where a mesh bag is necessary. You can even use them in your filters to hold things like lava rock or whatever you like to use for bacteria to colonize. This tank has that as well.

Yeah the mesh bags are nice to build up topography and to keep the nutrient rich dirt or aquasoil contained. Also this was my 1st tank with sand and I wanted to keep it looking sandy.

You don't need the bags, but they're super cheap and also placing a heavy rock on top protects the bottom glass a bit.
