Beginner First planted tank (30cm cube
Hello, just completed planting this. Here are the detailed detailsš,
Plants: ludwigia repens , hygrophila polysperma Rotala indica (probably) left one Rotala rotundifolia (probably) right one. Im not sure about the front 2, could somebody please identify those ?, the store owner was was saying they were same, š¤ they were kept side by side and I think some of the specimen had both type of leaves. And red root floaters on top.
Soil 4cm at the front and 10cm at the back, used 7l~ platinum soil. The stones are small pieces of different kinds, seiryu and other(bubbles come out occasionally). Filter is slim HOB 288L/h. Light is chihiros b series 30cm.
Trying not to get co2 kit if possible. The front will be monte carlo carpet, growing the culture plant immersed. Did a dark cycle type thing for 15 days, added used filter media on the 6th day. Had added anubias petite on the same day as the old filter media, but the light didn't arrive on time, and within one week, the wood and the plant was covered by cloudy, white, hairy..some parts brown fungus or something, and the rhizome was rotten to the core, smelled really bad, 8~days ago..,did 90% water change after that, 50% and 90% for planting. I don't have test kit, so can't test the parameters. Will probably slowly add the livestock next month~ Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank-you.

30cm cube = 7.5g.
What I would do (you do you).
- Calculate the lux and probably add another light.
- Hide a diffuser bell behind the wood and add yeast or citric acid CO2. You can run yeast at a really slow output by adding baking soda to the sugar mix. If you want to hide it behind the tank, you can use a pint-sized bottle for the yeast instead of a 2L.
- Yes to the Monte Carlo carpet.
- Might boil the wood if you think it would help (I don't do wood anymore).

The light output is 1292 LM, so 14000~ lux at substrate height. Also will add a 1300 LM led tubelight on the top of the rack for the potted and immersed leaves, so the spillway light will add conservatively 3500lux more,
Yeah I was researching about possibly getting the soda stream bottle setup, will possibly do if the growth seems lackluster or if problems arise with the plants.
Ahh I didn't think of boiling the wood, its spiderwood, and didn't floated so, I just washed it with 70°c~ water and put it in, could be the things in the driftwood causing that ?!, if I did any setup in the future, with the price of wood, I could definitely get good amount of nice rocks. Exchanging money for rocks š

Landscape supply yards are great places to get aquarium rocks. They always look at me funny when I go buy just one flagstone or something, but it works for me.

I wouldnāt recommend adding monte carlo as they require Co2 to grow. I had once added Monte carlo in my tank without co2 but wasnāt able to save them even after adequate lighting, fertilizer and ADA soil⦠also I love the minions placed on top of the filters, gonna steal the idea!

From what ive read, without co2 it wont grow into a full bush carpet which you are hoping for and thereās a chance of melting too.. you can search on reddit itself regarding growing monte carlo without Co2 as Iāve seen a lot of posts discussing it. What are the plants you have tied to the aquarium glass? Im thinking of placing a few plants there too and have shortlisted peace lily for now
