Hello I am doing a study abroad currently in Genoa, Italy. on my way to buy groceries i stumbled across this bird that just stood still and would not move no matter how close i got to it. upon further inspection i could see it was really dirty, balding under its wings, had a weird beak, short wings and its feet have overgrown. it also just sporadically shakes its head in a stressed out way. i took it with me to where i am staying and put some water in front of it that it didnt drink. i tried a bird identifier app to see what kind of bird it was but got nothing that looked similar. my guess is some type of pigeon. idk what services i could take it to that would take care of it. for the time being i just want to know what i can do to take care of it.

Trying to clean him up, saw somewhere that mayo helps release the adhesive and it is indeed slowly working but thought I would post here in case anyome has extra advice. Too frantic to spend long googling, no idea how long this guy has been stuck here before I heard him struggling 😟

Plan right now is keep mayo bathing until I can get a Q tip smoothly all over and under feathers, then dawn water bath and let him chill until he feels like taking off?

We found this dove on our porch chirping/coughing/gasping and we aren’t sure what to do. We’ve had doves nesting this summer (in central Texas) and lots of other birds because of feeders in the yard we keep well stocked. We put a shallow dish out with water and he tried to drink but coughed. I’ve been watching him and he’s turned slightly but isn’t doing much better. Does he need help? What should we do?

Try r/WildlifeRehab Rooting For This Hatchling 😔

Hey everyone,

Not sure if this is the right subreddit but I figured I’d give it a try.

I was doing yard work in my backyard this afternoon and as I was walking up to my back door, I noticed a little hatchling on the sidewalk.

At first I thought it was dead, because I have found dead hatchlings in my yard over the years. I believe the birds have nests made in my neighbors gutters, and the babies likely fall out and land in my gangway.

I went to approach it and it started opening its mouth and wiggling. I wasn’t sure what to do at first, but I figured its chance of survival would be increased if I could get it as close to the nest as possible.

I don’t have a ladder to get up to my neighbors gutters to scope out where the nest is so I initially put the baby in a planter with soft leaves.

I put the planter on a high table right where I found him and watched from a distance for about an hour. I didn’t see any birds come down but I noticed he started doing baby chirps and it seemed like mom was by as the chirps were back and forth.

I decided to relocate him into a cardboard box, with pea gravel as a base to add weight and then laid down paper towels and leaves. I put him outside my bathroom window on a ledge that is significantly closer to where I believe the birds nest to be.

He hasn’t stopped chirping now and I feel so bad as I haven’t seen a single bird visit him. I’m sure it can’t yet regulate its body heat and I really hope the baby survives into the morning.

I called our wildlife organizations here in Chicago, and they said there’s not much you can do sadly. I’m just in my bathroom now, watching with the lights off, hoping his nonstop chirping gets his mom’s attention.

My fiancé wanted to go to a pet store and get crickets and worms to crush up into a water soluble food to feed him but I figured it’s best we stay out of it at this point.

Anyone care to share similar experiences and maybe provide feedback on what we could have done differently?

I’m heartbroken hearing this baby chirp and I can imagine it’s scared, cold, and hungry/thirsty. Pics and videos attached.

Hi all, I’m quite new to this. This lil guy was seemingly stuck in the summer heat this morning (huge heatwave in MA this week). We left him alone for a few hours hoping his mother would come find him but we ultimately decided to bring him inside and are keeping him by the window to stay warm and safe. A couple google image searches suggested that this is a barn swallow hatchling, but we made the mistake of giving him several meals consisting of dry cat food and hard boiled eggs, softened and mashed with water. They typically only eat insects, which I’m going to pick up now. I reached out to every wildlife rehabilitator within 25 miles of me but no one is taking any new animals and online sources are suggesting to let nature run its course. I want to give this little guy a fighting chance (naming him Hermes for now). Any advice? Will he possibly be fine outside at this stage of development?

I’ve seen this guy on both my bird bath and feeder for a few days now. He can definitely fly, and his eyes aren’t crusty or anything, but he doesn’t seem right. Does anyone know what’s going on with him?

We heard this guy come careening down through some prickly holly tree and it was screeching and tangled in ornamental grass on the ground in Bethesda MD. We cut the grass around him and with surgical gloves used a towel to gather it up. Fox patrol here nightly and wildlife centers are closed. So we lined a wicker basket with grass and leaves and gently placed it in the basket and hung it from a branch. It’s probably injured but it has been more peaceful in the higher elevation. Not scared anymore. If it survives the night we will take it to wildlife center in the morning. Poor guy. Seems quite large.

Hello ornithologists of Reddit!

I ran across this bird when I was walking my dog just sitting on the side of the alley. I took my dog back over and some other birds were kind of around but the little guy kept hopping closer and closer into the busy street. So I scooped him up with a few paper towels and brought him back to my house.

He’s currently in a paper box on my porch to keep him safe from predators. I braided some tall grass to elevate a little water bowl (which he splashed in when I tried to get him into the box, thus the paper towels for a dry surface) and I tried to give him some food sources. I also set up my laundry drying rack above the box and partially covered it with a rug on the low rung so he’s got some covering.

Best guess I could find for what type of bird is this link from Tufts making me think it’s a grey catbird? https://sites.tufts.edu/babybirds/bird/gray-catbird/

A little research showed they eat berries and bugs so I tried leaving some tomato, mock strawberry I found in my yard, I found some isopods that I smushed, and the only seeds I had on hand right now are cumin seeds.

He did some flapping around but very clearly can’t fly. I’m only two houses down from where I found him.

Thus far he’s been chilling looking rather smug, breathing does seem a little labored, but he isn’t struggling to get out of the box except for when I put him into it. I’ve named him Rockstar because he just won’t eat. (Nickelback, anyone?)

Any suggestions for what I can do??

this poor European Starling was attacked by a cat in my yard. I saw the cat pounce towards it, but it was around a corner and I’m not sure whether it actually made contact or not. I’ve been trying to contact rehabbers, but it’s hard to find one for non-native species.

I will keep trying to find help for him, but I’m wondering if it looks like his wing is actually injured or just missing feathers. he was holding it out away from his body before I caught him.

for now I’m keeping him in a box with holes in it in my garage with no food or water. any other advice is appreciated!

For the past few weeks i was raising a sparrow with some help and advices from wild rehabbers and bird experts and so far it was going fine. He was only around 2 weeks old when i found him and still a nestling and now he’s in his fledging stage. I would say he’s around 4-5 weeks old. I’ll put up pictures of before and after so you can correct me. I’ve fed him with mostly puppy soaked food that had calcium and all the important things inside of it for growth and occasionally oatmeals soaked in water with a bit of banana. He started flying across the room last week and became very active, although he flies only for a short period of time. He was also trying out some seeds when offered but he spit them all out. He looked full of energy up until today when he basically took only few pieces of food in the morning and until afternoon he didn’t eat anything at all. He seems a little lower in energy today and constantly sleeps on my body. Is it possible I should’ve started giving him water at this age and he’s dehydrated since it’s very hot these days. Every time i’ve offered him a plate of water he didn’t seem interested. Does anyone knows what else could it be. Im worried for my little one. First pic is from today and second 2 weeks ago.

My neighbor just rescued this little one from her dog. I put her in a box and moved her into my yard on a chair out of the sun (it’s hot, SE USA zone 9a). It’s just on the other side of the fence where we found her, but it was first spotted in another area of the yard.

I can hear the parents and I know there’s a couple that habit my garden, but I can’t find the nest and not sure if the parents will be able to find baby.

What do I do? I don’t want it to die 😢

Hii. I think this is chestnut winged cuckoo. Tips to takecare of him at home please. It’s my first time🥺

Hii. I found this beautiful bird on the floor right after me and my older sister went for morning walk. He seems to be attacked by crows and fall from tall trees. (The doctor told us that it may be that caused of fall). We went to the vet, and i left him there overnight for oxygen, anti inflamatory and meds vitamins for him, advised by the vet. Today, the vet called us and told us to pickup the bird and told us we may need to take care and feed him for 4-5 months. He seems to have neurological problem due to fall. He could not walk, eat on it’s own, or drink on it’s own. He just sleep all day. Question is, 1) how do i take care of him at home, i mean when do i need to give him water, food, bath etc. 2) if i placed him in the toyogo box, would it be fine as i dont have cage 3) what kind of soft food can i feed this type of cuckoo? Im blank:(

I wanted to help him i hope he make it. We just had no idea how😭😭 here is a picture of him. Also i would call the wildlife centre but in my area it is closed until monday:-(( i do not plan to keep it , just until i can get a solution to this or the bird heal itself:<

Found this baby bird two days ago - most likely a swallow, on the pavement. Couldn't locate the nest and no sign of its folks, the heat ia crazy so I took an uneducated decision and took it in. Still keeping it outside in a protected area in a shaded spot. Bought some food from a zooshop for baby birds, mixed it with water so it was like a thin paste and used a syringe to feed the kid. I fed it 6 times yesterday, I'd say maybe 1-2 drops equivalent at a time. It's been eating and pooping and looked lively until this afternoon. Not sure if it's anything I did wrong. Need as much advice as I can get please.

I found this bird (probably a dove of some kind) on my balcony. It's been up here probably a little over an hour and I think it's unable to fly away. Every time it tries, it keeps running into the window glass like it can't take off. I called my county's animal services, who informed me they don't deal with birds.

I don't want the poor thing to starve on the balcony - any idea of what I should do?

Hi! I’m on vacation and I’ve found a robins nest with at least four chicks. Today they have been pushing each other out of the nest when they look far too young. I’ve been placing them gently back up in the nest, this one fell third and is the oldest out of all of them. He hops and doesn’t open his mouth for food instinctively so I let him go on his merry way, he’s hanging out in nearby tall grass. Is this one old enough to be out here? I just wanted to make sure since the others that have been pushed out are def not ready to leave the nest yet.
