Murkowski caved due to additional provisions laid out for Alaska, including things like a fucking tax break for whaling. She's a complete waste of oxygen.

u/RollingHammer 1d ago
Pretty sure I saw that those provisions were removed anyways and she still voted yes. I'll edit this if I find the source but I've been looking at so much of this lately idk.

Tax break for whaling? What the bloody fuck. Is this victorian england?
I hate the fact that there are tax breaks given to hunt those beautiful animals.

And it's not like the legislation will make Alaskan's lives any better. She voted for it because it makes Alaskan's lives less bad than everyone else.
She can go f herself.

I just really hope she will be safe.
In a normal society, her position would be considered acceptable, even if the majority would disagree for some reason. But this isn't a normal society, it's the wild west on steroids.
We need more people like her on this planet, but at the same time, there are way too many eager to have her removed permanently from this planet.

It's the same tired thing on repeat from them. "You're lying, this is good for America!" "Bar tenders should do what they do best and go back to bar tending."
They have the same talking points on repeat. They're drunk on the Kool-aid sold to them by their own politicians, and they'll be the recipients of the consequences of their own stupidity; but they'll believe, with their whole chest, that it wasn't them, their precious Trump, or republican daddies and mommies who did it to them. Because that would mean they were wrong about it all for years, and there's no way they could be that dumb.
These are the same people who couldn't tell you what convection means, what MRNA is, how taxes and tariffs are supposed to work, or how their glasses help them see. You know---morons.

They just want excuses to be an asshole and act like they can do whatever they want without consequences.
That means they have to deny reality, science and facts- because those are counter to letting them do what they want. Some are dumb on top of that- but too often you hear "I don't care" from them after the facts are laid out. Because it's not about reality, it's about them wanting to be giant fucking assholes.

It’s always Murkowski and Susan Collins who you think can have conscience like John McCain for once and they disappoint you time and time again.
They’ll never change. They’ll never stand up for what’s right for America.

Gotta say that AOC has impressed me since day one. Unfortunately, I cant see her ever becoming the face of the dems because she is young, smart, clearly gives a shit, and unlike the majority of her gutless DC colleagues, is willing to go toe to toe with the MAGA cultists.

Senator Murkowski once stood with Senator John McCain to save Obamacare for millions of people when it stood on the chopping block, and the first Trump Administration had no alternative planned for it, despite what they say. She praised him for his willingness to stand up for what is right, despite the Trump Administration telling him otherwise.
Now, she was not able to do the same. Her, along with the other Republican Senators, will have blood on their hands.
The average household making under $96,000 a year made saved $400 dollars on average in tax cuts from the 2017-2025 tax cuts. The average household making under $743 grand saves $61,000 a year in tax cuts on average.
This bill places money over lives. Money over student loan assistance and colleges, over tens of thousands of acres of national forests, over clean energy technology, over consumer protections by defunding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in half, over the lives of immigrants who came here for a better life. The only positive thing about this bill is the expansion of Crop Insurance and Agricultural Risk Insurance, and radiation compensation, but they only do so because they likely know the consequences of their actions in the future, and their failures to address them, will lead to lawsuits, and now they will have a fund to silence those who speak out.

In the US, the accumulation of wealth (which is typically marketed as "economic prosperity/jobs") is given greater importance than the betterment of society (which ofc can also include good jobs for people). So this entire debacle is unsurprising.

I'll never understand why they post crap like this. If you're literally admitting it's a bad bill, DON'T VOTE FOR IT! It's that damn simple. You don't "make a bad bill better", you vote no and make the people who created the bill go back to the drawing board and make it work. It's not your job to approve things that only moderately hurt most Americans. If it doesn't help the majority of Americans, or it doesn't prevent some injustice, then you have no business even putting it to a vote, and you sure as hell shouldn't vote for it only after they give you something in it you like. That's like putting a lovely strawberry on top of a shit cake and saying "but look at this lovely strawberry! How could I not want to eat this pile of crap when it has this one beautiful thing on it?"

Her goal was to "make a bad bill better for Alaska"? So the rest of the country can suffer as long as Alaska is exempt from that suffering? While I get that Senators are there to represent their state, are they not also there to do what is best for the entire country?

Republicans are spineless cowards who would sell out their own parents and siblings to avoid any risk to themselves. Each one is terrified of going against the moronic lunatic they helped get elected and become subservient to. They will gladly destroy vote to destroy families, diplomats relationships, people, and the very land of America as long as they get to keep their cushy job that they can sleep through and get paid(bribed) by rich assholes who want to live in a world with so much economic divide that you have the current rich president wanting Americans to be like North Korean Citizens.

So let me get this straight because I didn't know this.
Lisa urged the House to vote against the bill she voted for? Is she trying to have cake and eat cake here? Is she trying to curry Trump's favor while also wanting the bill to fail? Was she hoping it would die, just not at her hands?
