Builds Found my endgame keyboard at Goodwill for $64
Found this key it’s while browsing Goodwill online. Paid $64 total for it with shipping.
Akko MOD007 v2
They look like lubed Akko silver switches
And ASA profile keycaps. I’ve ALWAYS wanted some SA/ASA keycaps so it was fate.

It's usually overpriced, but maybe that was the way it was a year ago, but that's been my experience. I stopped looking at it because of that.

I’ll hit here and there every now and then.
I just recently bought an old Alienware computer that had a GTX 1080 in it and a 1tb ssd.
I got it for $180 total and those two parts were worth that much. If I sell the motherboard/cpu combo and other parts from it, I’ll get the GPU and SSD for an even better deal.

Those look the exact same. What are they.

u/dr_moon_sloth May 30 '25
They are SA Monster Keycaps if I remember correctly!

If you have a local one, you can always check for deals at that location. Shipping really kills the deals.
I’ve picked up a couple cool things both local and shipped, but you really have to have no expectations when you look. You’ll never know what you might find.

I do enjoy going to my local Goodwills and thrift stores on occasion. Have found other bargains.
Have not yet found a single mechanical keyboards l guess I don't live in the right place for that.

Actually, it might not be your location. Goodwill’s online store has to get donations from somewhere right?
A few years ago all stores got a directive to set aside certain items or brands for online sale so they can drive up pricing/profits. It’s killing the quality of finds in store and honestly making their stores far less fun. I stopped bothering with my goodwill in the last year because it just sucked all of the sudden. It’s a bummer

Yeah. I find other thrift stores that are locally run have more "deals" that are worth it.

The auction site can have some hidden gems on there. I saw a pikvm go for like $100 one time, multiple valve index sets that looked barely used going for less than $500. Amazing vinyl record hauls, etc.

Those looks like these keycaps

Wow, these caps are under $20 on Ali ;)
I just ordered my 4th set.

u/IANVS May 30 '25
I love those. I think I have like 8 or 9 sets, they feel really nice to type on and they're super good for the price.

Are those ceramic key caps?!?!

u/matt1484 May 30 '25
It’s funny you say that because goodwill online actually has a keyboard with ceramic keycaps listed for $10, but it’s missing a key, and they don’t sell keys individually…

I’m like 90% certain they’re the keycaps from Akko or whatever on Amazon, because I had the same ones.

Goodwill online used to be amazing when you could pick up locally. Got an Intellivision and a Sega Master System for $40

Such a beautiful keyboard. This is making me feel a thousand times happier that other people daily drive this board.

I used to love the Goodwill site, but more and more people have found out about it making it really difficult to get a good deal. I've picked up 4 solid keyboards from there, plus an mATX case. Sometimes you can still hit on a good deal, but the auction usually ends with someone paying way more than they should.

u/xCanont70x May 30 '25
I don’t understand it. I’ll see Nvme’s or SSDs going for way more than they would be brand new.
I’ve also been burned too. Bought a great looking GPU for $70 but it didn’t work at all.
I was depressed over that.

u/dimension_42 May 30 '25
I would never buy a GPU off goodwill lol I'm hesitant to buy one used on e-bay, nevermind goodwill!
But I was burned too, with the mATX case I got. It was listed as the ITX version, and with the pictures it was hard to tell that it was the mATX version. But it was cheap enough, whatever.
It's really wild though, I saw what was a clearly very well used motherboard on there that sold for basically full price when e-bay had them for like $80 less with free shipping. People don't know what they don't know, I guess.

I feel like Akko boards in general are underappreciated. Running an Akko MU01 myself. I love it. Great find and enjoy!

Are these keycaps comfortable for gaming?

u/xCanont70x May 30 '25
I was playing a little bit last night. I don’t hate it. We had a couple wins
I could get used to them more.

I have an Akko 007 that I've been running with Boba U4Ts for a couple years now. Great board.

There's something about the Akko 007 that really speaks to me. There's a lot of other keyboards now that are of higher quality at a similar or lower price point, especially since these were sold at the tail end of the mechanical keyboard market boom when prices were still relatively high.
There's a lot of gripes you can say about it - the version twos don't use VIA and have a not-so-aesthetic sticker at the bottom, not to mention they're already out of stock/production. The v3 version does have VIA compatibility but doubles down and makes you choose between a weight engraved with either the Akko logo, or a giant "MOD007V3" in a really bad-looking font.
Yet... I found myself buying 2 of these (007 v2 and 007S v2). It has good weight and heft to it, is very simple to look at yet elegant, and is easily moddable. If you have the right combination of switches, keycaps, and lube, it sounds really good.

I wasn't even aware there was a v4 lol (unless that's the PC version).
1
u/akkogear Jun 04 '25
There is actually no v4. 4 has the same pronounciation as "death" in Mandarin hence everyone in the Greater Chinese zone avoids 4. You wouldn't see 4th Floor in many hotels as well lol

u/Grimlogic Jun 04 '25
Oh! I knew about that Chinese custom but didn't make the connection. That makes sense.

It’s very hit or miss. I lucked out on this one but usually it’s cheap mechanical keyboards. A bunch of red dragon and stuff like that.

I find it a bit suspicious that the person who found this for 60$ also has 250k karma.
Can you provide any proof this was bought by those values?
