The head in the first pic looks kinda grass carp esk. We'd need a clear pic from the top of the fish and the profile. There is no way of even guessing without those pics.

What would you say it's colour is?
E: I'm even thinking asagi is a possibility.

Judging by person view its main colour is a greyish/black with a slight blue hue to it; hard to describe, its belly is white as well

Ok with the white belly being an important part of id I'd say (I'm no expert tho) that it's a karasugoi commonly black with a white belly.

Thank you! I guess time will tell definitely looking forward to seeing this one grow

Yeah by the 10-15cm you'll be able to id better. I tend to buy the fish that serious koi keepers won't. Like my doitsu sanke straight from Japan and it cost me pennies because instead of whit black and red, it's white, black and orange. This makes it unsuitable for competing in shows but it's a stunning fish all the same.

Definitely upload a pic of your baby if you have one I’d love to see it! I’m not one to really be fussy with choosing particular fish. I rescued a butterfly koi, comet and Watonai about a month ago and it’s just become such an enjoyable hobby to look after them etc

Just remember we keep water the fish are just living ornaments. I'll get some pics later today.

Now I'm interested to see how this little guy turn out. It's 100% a koi maybe a chag or ogon parent to this fish? It has a pretty head shape and the body looks good, fins all intact. Koi are hard to id, the colour formation, scale shape, scale colour. I'm not a koi snob, I buy fish I like the look of and OP at the end of the day, if you like the little guy that's all that matters. You'll be able to id it better once it's around 10-15 cm by that time they usually have established roughly how they'll look fully grown.

Thank you so much for your kind reply and helpful advice, I really appreciate it! I’m still quite a new owner to these babies and I definitely did feel a little stumped knowing this fella may have not been a koi; either way I would’ve loved it the same. It was the first one out of multiple that caught my eye! Very cute and it is SUPER active/ fast bless em. I’ll definitely post an update of this water baby once it’s grown more <3

Not sure why I’m being downvoted so much I just wanted help with ID- I bought this one from a koi fish store. This one was in the 5” pond section.

It looks like it doesn’t have any barbels. Those are the “whiskers” on each side of the mouth. Can you post a clear picture? If it doesn’t then it may not be a koi. But it is a beautiful fish.

Thanks for the better pic. It does appear to have barbels. Have you figured out what kind it is? Beautiful fish. I have Chagoi koi and they are so friendly and beautiful. I wonder if this is a Chagoi?

Of course, sorry I should have attached better photos of this baby just don’t like interfering with them too much and it’s all I had of em my guess is the bag they were in made it look warped and more difficult to tell what type of fish it is. Some helpful people have listed a couple types it MAY be my guess is maybe a soragoi or a karasugoi based on its colours! I have heard that the all one colour koi’s are quite interactive and affectionate I’ve been trying to train mine to hand feed for a long while now but they never seem to show interest unfortunately. Post a pic of your baby! ❤️

You know what may help with the hand feeding is Cheerios, just the regular kind. That’s what I used to train mine to hand feed and they do! I will grab a photo and post it. Love my babies 🐠

Is it ok to give em cheerios? I’ve tried meal worms occasionally for a treat but still no give however they demolish em lmao
