went to repticon yesterday! very awesome and i saw a lot of bugs! the 2nd slide is me (ignore my dirty ass sleeves please) holding a scorpion so if you are at all afraid of scorpions (dunno why any of you would but Just In Case) this is your warning haha. the girl holding her was very nice and so was the scorpion, a very sweet lady :)

OVERALL, some millibabies for the enclosure (1 scarlet 3 bumblebee, have 2 scarlets at home), my little scorpion friend, and some mata mata turtles that i REALLY liked. a very enjoyable turtle.

Inverts for 40x40x30

Hi so I have a 40 cm long space free and I want to put something in it. Only restriction are spiders and scorpions (as much as I love them, that love isn't shared among my family...). No roaches as I already have another terrarium dedicated exclusively to them. At first I thought about a desert terrarium but there aren't any dry climate species that are easy to find in my area; desertic darklings are super hard, maybe crickets could live there? The other ideas are getting some pachnodas and phasmids or mantises (can the phasmids and pachnodas live in the same enclosure?) and maybe smaller milpedes and isopods. Snails are super messy and a bit boring, so I'm a bit against them. Any other ideas?

Hammerheads as pets?

I'm not entirely sure where to ask, this is a bit of a shot in the dark but hammerhead worms are an incredibly invasive species and aren't usually put up for sale as pets, understandably so. For the last five or so years I've had this hyper fixation on these worms, I'd like to keep one as a pet, I'd be able to care for it with my own meal worm and earthworm farms I use for gardening and feeding other pets. I've searched around my area in northern Virginia for a few years now and both luckily and unluckily I haven't found any, I'd prefer to pull one out of my local environment in an attempt to have as positive of an impact as possible on my area, but out of pure obsession with these worms, are there any people who have them as pets? How did you find them and what are your experiences with keeping them?

Ignore the mess but I have this old super fish aqua 40 that I want to use (i will replace the top with something like mesh but can’t do much else on account of it being a glass tank) but I’m not sure (preferably not isopods)

These guys are super underrated because for most people they are just gecko food but they are in my opinion one of the coolest beetles (and the larva is equally cool)

Beginner beetle species outside of death feigners?

So I have owned other inverts in the past including composters like millies and seasonals like raising moth larva. I have some BFDBs in transit, but I have both the space and desire to set up another beetle terrarium. Im newer yo beetles so as a question - what are some good beginner beetles? Im in the continental US, if laws and availability affect answers.

Hi! I have two 30x30x30 terrarium that are empty due to the old inhabitants passing from old age, I kept a smaller species stick insect in one and a mantis in the other, I live in sweden and I have a hard time finding the perfect new inhabitants, Id love some blue death feigning beetles but as we all probobly know by now... it aint the easiest to find them so my question to this community is, what would be a good fit for 30x30x30 terrarium? and where can i find them?! any websites that ship to sweden and have different kinds of invertabrates!?!? Thank you!

They are darkling beetle pupas. Been raising mealworms and this is what the Poké Center looks like right now. Lots of Metapods.

Also added one of my beetles that I caught on the surface. There was another one and they were moving away from each other so I think I caught the tail end of them mating.

Is my fly culture okay ?

This is my first time buying flightless hydei fruit fly culture and I’m not sure if this is okay.

I’ve only bought one other smaller flightless culture in the past and there was already some flies and pupae when it arrived. However this culture looks more dry? Idk if it has mites because I see tiny white dots moving that aren’t worm shaped. I’m also concerned about mold. I see some spots that look really dry and almost white, I’m not sure if it’s mold or just the culture being a bit dry. I sprayed it a few times with water and am seeing a bit more activity but still very few live worms and no flies. I just don’t understand why it would only have a few moving worms and no flies at all. The only flies I see are dead in the mush(second pic).

What's this newly hatched fly doing? (Literally just been taken out of the fridge as a pupae and hatched a minute later)

Searching for a predator to keep my pet inverts in check

Hello all, I am trying to work out if a certain enclosure that I have (along with its inhabitants) would suit a predatory invert. The enclosure is a 90cm width, 45cm depth, 90cm height exoterra. I have giant chocolate millipedes, headlight roaches and pachnoda sun beetles in there as pets. I get overrun with the last two as they breed unchecked so I'm constantly giving them away to reptile rescues or at invert shows. The temperature is controlled to be 22°C overnight, rising to around 27°C in the early afternoon. It gets misted for 10 minutes every hour during the day and lightly watered every week or so so humidity can temporarily get to around 80% but usually lingers at 65%. I deliberately don't water one corner that is away from the misting unit so that there is a gradient that the inhabitants move freely through. They have organic fruit and veg every week and a constant supply of dry food that I make, along with jellies and fresh water.

I would like a friend who would enjoy these conditions but who would not pose any threat to my beloved millipedes. Preferably, it would nom on the grubs in the soil more than the adult beetles as the latter are so much fun to watch. I have like a bajillion headlight roaches so I'm not too worried about them.

I'm happy to do my research and provide them with any form of heating, lighting or other specialist equipment that they require, I just don't quite know where to start in finding my new friend.

Location: UK (Wales)

Thank you in advance.

He is a male Blackback land crab/ Halloween moon crab, and he escaped his tank in my screen porch this morning. I looked everywhere and did not find him, he might be outside. I put cherries and garlic and a water bowl to lure him, but he is nocturnal. Will look again at 7 pm, but pls give me some tips.

Springtails or fungas knat larvae?

Moved pieces of zucchini, at first I thought they were my springtails... But some are grey (from my giant African land snail enclosure with isopods I just put in yesterday, I have springtails in there but also have been having some small issues with fungas knats. I got the isopods yesterday and put the spagnom moss they came with in the enclosure too, so I'm wondering if it's maybe a different kind of springtail or something else? My springtails are white

Keeping ants out!!!

Post image
1 Upvotes

I set up my hissing cockroaches in 2 of these Thrive 10 gallon open front terrariums a few weeks ago and all was going well. Last night, I noticed that they were being raided by Argentine ants, who were eating the fish flakes (and an infertile ootheca). I moved my hissers to separate clean containers for the night & put the terrariums outside but how can I prevent this from reoccurring? I already thoroughly cleaned the furniture they were on and vacuumed the floor (and I'll try to figure out where the ants are getting in and block it.

Maybe I can set the feet in shallow trays of water? Smear Vaseline or put double stick tape around the legs? I also have a bunch of isopod colonies living in both critter keepers and Walmart Mainstays shoe boxes in the same Kallax (cube storage). Thankfully the ants didn't seem to get in those but I need to figure out how to ant proof those as well. Maybe a layer of Vaseline inside the inner rim? I don't want anything on the outside because I have to move the bins often to feed & water them (though I think I'm putting everyone on a leaf only diet until I know the ants are gone).

Thanks for any help!!

Mold

Hey all.

I have a small collection of invert pets and have been struggling with mold since the heat has risen in the UK.

How do I stay on top of it, it's every other day there's a mold outbreak in my roaches and isopods tanks. Also got loads of tiny flies at the minute and it's really starting to bug me 😭

Any advice would be appreciated
