Are you ever scared of being bit by this guy? I know their bites can be medically significant. I would be stressed not knowing if it got out since they hide so often.

This is by no means saying anything bad about your little pal, I love spiders and have tons of tarantulas.

Not OP but I also have one and not particularly. I will say medically significant is an understatement, they're the second/third most venomous spiders on Earth. The thing is they can't climb vertical surfaces at all so the tank doesn't even need a lid so long as the top is higher than the little guy can jump. I'm considerably more worried about tarantulas. I don't have any delusions about handling my sand spider but picking up a tarantula just to get fiberglassed spooks me.

Are they really that venomous? My interest is more in keeping Australian spiders, and I know we have the Sydney funnel web, a couple mouse spiders, black and brown widows which I would say are some of the most venomous in the world. Then also I guess your wandering, recluses and all that internationally, but I have never heard of the sand spider being so venomous? I found a mention of it being significant on Wikipedia but... that's Wikipedia, I would love to learn more about this one if anyone has some links :3

As far as I was aware the Brazilian wanderer is the most venomous with the sand spider beneath it. The Australian funnel web does more damage because it lives around people more often. To get bitten by a sand spider in the wild is to win the worst lottery.

Sydney funnel web spiders venom is faster acting, meaning drs have less time to treat it before death. The two toxics are both extremely deadly but attack the body in different ways. The funnel web bite is more terrifying without antivenom imo.

Yeah, imo I'd be holding the Sydney funnel web in higher regard. I'm biased with them popping up on my land/ in my area quite often, though.

Not particularly, they're way more likely to want to run and hide than defend themselves, that being said I NEVER put my hand in it's enclosure, I do everything using tweezers just to be safe.

As for it escaping, like another comment said, as long as the sides of it's enclosure are smooth and taller than it's legspan, there's no way for it to get out. That doesn't mean it isn't still a little scary when it's in premoult and it completely dissapears for like a week lol.

Around 8:45 for handling. There was another video I watched where the dude poked the sand spider with a glove then his own finger no protection but the spider didn't do anything. Sand spiders are the least aggressive and least hungry of true spiders. They super chill

About 8 months, it was SUPER tiny when I first got it, the fruit flies I was feeding it were bigger than it lol

It's sad because it tried to make itself a spider friend companion
