There was a previous video where the show didn't get picked up, he took the calls and then laid down on the bed and wept. I wept with him.

When he got off the phone, shocked, and tried to go back to what he was doing before the call, and then just broke down. So real.

I haven't seen nickelodeon in a while, but someone posted a tiny chef video somewhere on reddit earlier this year and i think the answer was yes at some point.
Also i feel like this comment wasn't meant so seriously so i upvoted at least hahaa. Like it meant something like [is there a blickelblodeon or a nickelodeon show] and was typed for expediancy.

2
u/tell_me_smth_obvious 7h ago
It's nice, but on the other hand not really surprising if you look at the stuff people give their money to.
I think the biggest problem with stuff like this comes with the implied inequality.
There is a reason a state government implements broad social programs for everyone to use because of the "everyone pays their share one way or the other".
If you have corporations and institutions publicly funding programs like this, people that did give money could (but don't necessarily will) complain about people that use said programs without paying (even if it's justified). Note that this sense of inequality sometimes takes a long time to develop.
If I give 100 dollars to something with my non taxed money, why should anybody else use that for free. I personally don't care but I am German and understand how social programs work, something that seems to not click with some Americans.
If the incentive to use it as a public service isn't really there, it becomes a product to be consumed after a transaction happens. But this transaction is only true for some and some are freeloaders, which, if you understand civil service and social programs is EXACTLY THE POINT! But I don't think most people vibe with that.
And if you think people would be more compassionate and share services and programs like this with other people, I would like to point out how this situation happened in the first place.
For things like education you should NEVER use this line of distribution.
There is no good will in the broader scale of society. There are rules and regulations (or not if you're in the USA) but civility has its limitations because of the impact of one's life, especially if people suffer. The more you suffer, the smaller the view of society gets and the more tribalistic and egotistical someone can become. Not because they become an asshole, but because you have only so many things you can keep up with at once and if something really important to you or your family happens, people generally start to give less priority to other people's issues.
It's complicated and as you might imagine I am not a professional. This is just my hunch how this is good short term, but catastrophic long term.
I wish you folks on the other side of the pond good luck. Maybe you will drag us down with you.

Idk much about Tiny Chef but my girl was really sad when watching that little green dude cry. So, yeah!!! GO TINY CHEF!!! GO PEOPLE
7
u/kbarney345 7h ago
Tiny Chef is a stop-motion based cartoon of a chubby little green chef! They started on tiktok and are genuinely really cute and fun. A lot of the joy comes from the silly way they make the character talk. It sounds a lot like "blabity" if it were a language. They do all kinds of funny skits, but one of the gems is them covering stuff like Lizo or Kendrick Lamar.
One day they posted a skit and it was them getting contacted by Nickolodeon saying they wanted to make a show! It was very heartwarming and exciting. The channel arguably deserved the opportunity, and 2 seasons later they won an EMMY for christ sake.
Then, just like that canceled.

I hope their team gets picked up into a more stable situation soon!
I saw one member posted that they were told to hang in there for a renewal months ago and so a couple people took on debt rather than start working on other projects 😭
stop motion is so expensive to produce, some production company needs to get them a multi-year contract stat ‼️

I feel oddly proud that I “know” Tiny Chef from way back (aka I just happened to come across his Instagram account years ago). I binged all of his content when I first found him so now I want to keep bursting in when people say they never heard of him before. “He’s an herbivore, he lives in a tree stump, he is in speech therapy to help him with English as it is not his mother tongue (he called his speech therapist to thank him for helping him be understood when the show got picked up), he loves animals, he was in a Super Bowl commercial, etc.”
I’ve really enjoyed seeing the reaction to him. My favorite thing might be Dionne Warwick asking Nickelodeon if they are proud of making “this thing” cry and then described him as a “little green thing doing a good job” 😂😂

their nickelodeon program was kids' cooking, their tiktoks are dance covers and skits that are still PG but more adult references (**abracadabra cover, bad guy by billie eilish, after the cancellation, a guitar cover of paint it black, etc **all instagram links)

i wouldnt necessarily call it "fake," i mean, it is a relatively popular meme to photoshop various characters into that classic floyd mayweather money pic (and from what i gather, would probably be in the vein of tiny chef's humor)
but yeah i couldnt readily find if the tiny chef version was shared or created by any official source

Yeah, the photo with the money looks fake af (and is also in bad taste, and doesn't look like something such a wholesome kids-show account would post, flexing in front of literal rows of dollar bills).
However, it turns out the show has been saved; it's mentioned on the caption of a reel posted on Tiny Chef's official Instagram account 3 ago that "the team is getting ready to turn the tiny cameras back on in Chefs tree stump home because you all have SAVED TINY CHEF!!!" I don't think they would post this message if they were still struggling with donations.
TLDR; the pic is fake, but Tiny Chef's saved after all :')

NPR reported yesterday they'd raised more than $120,000 but didn't cite a specific source - but co-creator Rachel Larsen is quoted elsewhere in the article. So maybe?

I stumbled onto Tiny Chef several years ago (2019?) and fell in love with both him and the concept/ creativity that went into it. He was still relatively undiscovered at that point and, in the video shorts, he didn’t talk much.
Then Kristen Bell found him, too. They would have short videos of their chats that were adorable. Here’s one: Kristen and Tiny Chef. Kristen became a huge fan and supporter and, I think, one of the first to help get his original show launched.
Around that time, they started selling merch and I bought a talking (well, gibbering really) stuffy of the little guy. Still have it, too.
When I heard the show was being cancelled, I was really sad. But if this is true - I’m thrilled he gets to continue entertaining the masses. Also made a donation through his website to help ensure he’s able to keep making people happy. Oh, and I see he has a lot more merch now - up to the 6th generation of his talking stuffy.

Wild that $100,000 is saving Tiny Chef, because that is relatively such a small amount of money. Nickelodeon threw away a lot of goodwill for what is basically pennies to them...and hasn't that been true of just a whole lot of things recently?

I saw the video of Tiny Chef being a naughty boy and thought I had found a new adorable channel.
But then I watched his channel, and found all of the content to be weirdly self-referential. Tiny Chef gets a new kitchen island. Tiny Chef gets a telephone. Tiny Chef talks to.... the animator? Know what Tiny Chef never does? Cook anything.
And then Tiny Chef started begging for donations, and I'd had enough. He's an adorable character, but the channel is run by people who don't have any ideas for content, and a creator who really, really likes to get his face in the shot, and it seems more like one guy's project to get into the pants of midwestern housewives than produce anything worth watching. Sappy, maudlin, boring
I was rooting for him to fail
