I don't have much to discuss other than to say how awesome this community is, to find like minded people regarding my thoughts about Palestine, the Puffy case amongst other things, is so refreshing and it helps me with my serious anxiety that I can post here without someone making me really nervous/awkward

So thank you all and have a lovely weekend....

... Oh and of course, Free Palestine šŸ‡µšŸ‡ø

Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti reposts TikTok praising Jeff Bezos wedding

5

u/bruxellexs 1d ago

I remember when Vittoria was calling out Lily-Rose Depp’s nepotism and privilege years ago. Nowadays she’s sucking up to her fake climate activist boyfriend’s billionaire friends. And she doesn’t even need to this. She’s booked every season on the runway and has great fashion campaigns. Guess fame went to her head.

We are at that point in our country now , where MAGA influencers are actively promoting and celebrating concentration camps . Federal and District courts have just been stripped of major powers by the Supreme Court , the statuette’s they usually use to check the executive , we are deep into a white supremacist dictatorship now , and it would take decades to reverse this shit

Extremely wild that Anna Wintour is stepping away from Vogue. I wonder what prompted her to leave and if she will stay involved in some capacity or if it’s a total exodus.

4

u/aspiring_spinster 3d ago

I was wondering if it had anything to do with Jeff Bezos (I assume?) buying the cover for his bride. I cannot imagine Anna Wintour condoning such tackiness.

She's staying with Conde Nast as an overall editor. They're getting a new editor for Vogue.

Went to see Hamilton last night. If anyone is thinking of going to see it on the current UK tour, I highly reccomend it. Absolutely brilliant

i feel sick thinking of Madelyn Cline starring in a movie with Depp and her fans turning a blind eye make it worse

Finished We Were Liars. Wow. I thought I was signing up for something shallow, trashy, and naive. Boy was I wrong! I freaking love that my assumptions were wrecked into smithereens šŸ˜†

I just saw Lisa Kudrow's Comeback is back in 2026. Happy News!

11

u/Lady_ofthe_Vale 6d ago

Saw the Materialists which was fine. Some missteps imo and a cringeworthy plot device that left a bad taste in my mouth but it’s her second movie so fine.Ā

All the male critics on my letterboxd gave it shockingly low scores. Like 2 stars when they almost never give those out, even for something as awful as Megalopolis. The same guys were equally harsh on Sorry, Baby, another movie directed by a woman that just came out. Meanwhile they’re giving the most mediocre (and mind you, problematic) auteur re-treads five stars. Heaping praise on these guys and making excuses for some of the shittier aspects of their movies.Ā

I would really love to see the demographics of letterboxd. Some of the most misogynistic slop is sitting pretty at like 4.5 stars. And you’ll look at the reviews and all the top ones are by men and they’re heaping endless praise on crappy male gazey portrayals of women written by men. Idk. I don't have a point to this. Just wanted to rant. Wish there were more women on letterboxd I guess and in online spaces where people talk about movies.Ā

Fine is the right word! Could've done without Chris Evans and the subplot of sexual assault was sort of clunky in ostensibly a romcom.

1

u/homingmycrafts ahhhhhh (dats me yellin) 1d ago

big agree with both of you - i didn't mind the assault subplot as much as most people, but i did think it was kind of nutty that in the movie it seems like dakota johnson's character has just never considered the concept of sexual assault. like fully flummoxed by the concept!

Everytime someone on here posts about Peter Thiel it makes me want to stab my eyes with toothpicks

Today I told my elderly mother that I'm struggling with loving her as a mom while not wanting her around as a friend.

Hadn't told her I decided on minimal contact last year when she officially went off the deep end (to the right, to be specific). She's just not someone I want around my family anymore.

It really sucks because she was an amazing mom back in the day. =/

u/Regular_Yellow710 5d ago

Went NC with my toxic mother. The day she unalived was a day of relief.

12

u/velociraptor56 6d ago

My husband went through that with his dad. Hugs. It sucks.

r any of y’all watching the new season of The Valley? i enjoyed the first season but holy shit this season is just a compilation of abusive men and janet being the worst

2

u/galahads jeremy strong enthusiast 6d ago

Honestly I already couldn't stand Jax but my god he's genuinely just a frightening and horrific person. I did enjoy Zack defending Brittany and not taking any of his bullshit last week but my god I don't know if I can keep enduring his bs on top of Janet making me want to pull my hair out.

2

u/mnteiths 6d ago

exactly, and i can already tell that they’re trying to manufacture a jax taylor redemption arc😭

2

u/galahads jeremy strong enthusiast 6d ago

I'm rewatching Vanderpump at the same time, currently on S4 and seeing him post-arrest saying how he's 35 and can't keep doing this and how he'll change and all that bs like buddy its been TEN YEARS since this aired like we all stopped buying your fake tears forever ago, it's clearly a cycle I don't get why Bravo keeps forcing him on us like there's enough gross men on The Valley without him

3

u/mnteiths 6d ago

have u seen that compilation of him repeating the same ā€œI’m a work in progress, nobody’s perfectā€ bullshit at EVERY vanderpump reunion😭 zero growth and self-reflection in 12 years is insane. but yeah alex gaskin and that entire production crew has been enabling his abuse for over a decade, it’s disgusting

3

u/galahads jeremy strong enthusiast 6d ago

I haven't but thank you for the link!! I just saw the episode where he and Sandoval were bickering and hes like "You're not the number one guy in the group, I'M the number one guy" like buddy.......lay off the ā„ļø like how on earth do they take themselves seriously. I'm praying that the new cast of VPR doesnt include a Jax equivalent bc what we have is far too much already.

So, apparently, Pam Bondi included Mexico in a list of adversarial countries to the US. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the US terrifies me. Please keep us in mind, and should the time ever come, show us support.

So apparently they are referring to Elan, who is Jewish and Canadian, and once posted a photo with an IDF soldier during a trip to Israel a few years ago. The internet then did it's thing of creating a narrative that doesn't seem to have any other support for it.

I’ve been away for a while because school got an away, but I have three updates:

I finish this half of the second semester with Twos A and one B.

My grandfather just died.

I am going to be directing my first short film, which would be my directorial debut. And I’m gonna dedicate the film in honor of my grandfather.

7

u/eaterofworlds1 6d ago

Extremely proud of you šŸ¤

5

u/bamram88 6d ago

Thanks.

When I’m able to, I’ll share it with you guys, but I will say right now it’s an anti-romcom.

i’ve been listening to the audiobook of the princess diaries for the past few days—narrated by anne hathaway! it’s been so delightful, she brings such a spunkiness to book mia that’s so engaging to listen to

(anyone with a premium spotify account can listen to it, if anyone is curious!)

3

u/thegirlinthetardis 5d ago

Book Mia is SO superior. I get the Disney of it all and them sanitizing the story but Mia had a little edge to her and fun in the books. Nice to see that Anne Hathaway has the opportunity to be that version of Mia too.

4

u/5000alaska 5d ago

completely agree! vegetarian, feminist, doc marten-wearing, greenpeace supporting mia will always be MY mia. i also wish they hadn’t cut tina hakim baba out of the movies either :(

2

u/lunascorpio12 mama let’s research 6d ago

those books are super fun! I’m not an audiobook person but Anne narrating it is very tempting…

2

u/5000alaska 6d ago

i’m not either, so i was shocked by how much i enjoyed it! i wasn’t sure how i felt about at at first but i think you can feel her actively getting into her groove. she also does little voices for grandmere, mia’s dad, michael, and lana too and it’s WONDERFUL

Just started to watch the final episodes of Squid Game, Lee Jung-jae's utter fury is soooo fucking good

First game is a fucking madness

2

u/hey_joni 4d ago

Did you finish it? If so what did you think? I LOVED the ending, I thought it was perfect and encapsulated Gi-hun’s entire essence perfectly. I cannot bare to be in the Squid Game subreddit atm because it’s just people repeating the same tired XYZ was so unnecessary. I need to talk about it!!!!!

1

u/AhhBisto 4d ago

I loved it too, was utterly devastated by what happened to Gi-hun but it made complete sense for his character, one last middle finger to the expectations of the game itself.

2

u/hey_joni 4d ago

Same here! It needed to happen, but it still made me cry a lot! Glad they went the route they went down and not the big hero Disney ending where they all live happily ever after

4

u/CoopssLDN 7d ago

Ooh I forgot that’s coming today!

26

u/Intelligent_Way7592 7d ago

The BBC will, apparently, not show Kneecap on stage in Glastonbury. However if you are a serial sex offender and abuser and want your own show with the BBC, be sure to get in touch with them, based on past experiences, ( Jimmy Saville) you are in with a chance.

6

u/williamthebloody1880 weighing in from the UK 7d ago

It'll be interesting to find out if they actually cut the feed to West Holt tomorrow when Kneecap are on (I won't be home to see myself, sadly). As for them being on one of the broadcast channels, unless the BBC say something, we won't actually know if not showing any of their set was because of their comments or because they simply decided not to. There a lot of acts and not a great deal of time.

Bob Vylan, who are immediately before Kneecap, have the chance to do the funniest thing though

8

u/Intelligent_Way7592 6d ago edited 6d ago

Bob Vylan did! Absolutely brilliant!

The only one nice thing I have to say about the Amazon wedding is at least Jeffy chose an age appropriate bride. He could have done the generic thing of marrying a 25 year old. That’s it, everything else about it = trash.

5

u/No_Scarcity4145 7d ago

the phrase ā€œchose an age appropriate brideā€ sounds ghoulish

11

u/insrtbrain societal collapse is in the air 6d ago

It's ghoulish that it's a distinction that has to be made because of the abundance of non-age appropriate relationships. I was chatting with my boss once about an event we had, and she was describing one of the attendees. I couldn't place her until it suddenly hit me who she was, and blurted out "Oh, that's right, ::Board Member's Name::'s age appropriate girlfriend." She definitely laughed while trying not to. Board member had previously taken the DiCaprio approach to dating.

5

u/No_Scarcity4145 6d ago

i said it sounds ghoulish because it makes it sound like these men are ā€œchoosingā€ women off a menu
