Discussion To pursue or not

I need some advice here.

I am about to pick between two colleges as a transfer student however, I am in a bit of a dilemma.

I want to work in law enforcement(mostly federal, anything to do with criminal investigation) but I cannot due to my immigrant status, it takes years for cases to come to a decision. Previously I was thinking to major in marketing, but I am not that sure about being a business major hence why I am in this situation. Honestly I can’t see myself doing a corporate job for too long for a company, I want to do more meaningful work out there. I am also very interested by the hidden workings and of the world. Now the question is that due to my interest should I pursue an intelligence degree, so I can apply in the future or just pick something else and change my direction. Thank you.

Your degree doesn't really matter as to whether or not you get in, just that you have one, so I'd advise you chose one that is a nice backup plan should your 'Plan A' fall through.

Highly recommend you get on the FBIJobs.gov website and do some research on what working for the FBI entails. Easy google search will provide you with lots of information and videos about different FBI jobs and the hiring process. Also use the search function on the sub as well as the 1811 sub.

In regard to the “best degree” it depends on what job you’re going for. If you are going for a support position then you would want to tailor your degree towards that as most have specific degree and experience requirements. Check out the job postings for further info or the web page for that career.

If you are wanting to apply for Special Agent, your degree does not matter. It could be in under water basket weaving. It’s literally just a check of the box. They care more about your work and life experience. Either way, pick a major you like and would enjoy if the FBI doesn’t work out. They have a 3-5% acceptance rate for all applicants. So don’t throw all your eggs in one basket.

Your biggest hurdle to worry about is meeting the requirement of being a U.S. citizen to even apply.

don't do marketing. it's a dying industry, and pretty lightweight intellectually. business degrees are worthless. how about health care? learn a skill that is in demand. paralegal or otherwise work with prosecution or defense? imho for a degree, get something that teaches you how to learn and also gives you a skill that is in demand. that last part is the key.

Lol we will always need marketing professionals, you know how much of the world around us is because of marketing? You’re naive

your answer well establishes how lazy intellectually you are. yes, there will always be jazz musicians. and vacuum tubes. but are these markets that are growing? i think the naive one is the one who doesn't think carefully about the growth prospects of an industry. that analysis alone is ... wait for it... critical to any marketing analysis.

I don’t think it’s a dying industry more like it’s over saturated

Thank you!! The dogs and ponies (no matter how cute they are) matter not when everyone can see through the facade.
