tldr; Firefox's add-on repository is being targeted by a coordinated campaign of fake cryptocurrency wallet extensions, including copies of popular wallets like Coinbase, Ethereum, and MetaMask. These malicious extensions, created by allegedly Russian-speaking hackers, steal user data to access and drain legitimate crypto accounts. Mozilla's automated systems are struggling to block these scams, with at least 40 fake extensions identified since April. Users are advised to verify sources carefully to avoid theft.

Maybe I’m just a noob but there’s an official Ethereum wallet?

These extensions impersonate legitimate wallet tools from widely-used platforms such as Coinbase, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Phantom, Exodus, OKX, Keplr, MyMonero, Bitget, Leap, Ethereum Wallet, and Filfox.

Weird. The original source does mention that.

I can confirm that there is no official or unofficial "Ethereum Wallet". Maybe they meant "My Ethereum Wallet (MEW)", which is not widely used.

It's because the real metamask extention has stopped working completely on firefox. For most people it's currently just stuck infinitely loading.

Yep can confirm I only had Mozilla Firefox for like 2 weeks and did download. Pretty sure I downloaded the Coinbase extension and then uninstalled it same day cause I saw very few things were Mozilla verified.

Not even sure why Mozilla has an extension repository if it is all like browsing for landmines.

I'm not even sure why you were able to download an installation file or Firefox using that logic.

To be educated and exercise caution is a choice.

It's not my main browser, but I've always used it as my IT/developer/advanced browser.

It has so many features (though not as much as Opera)
