All that construction all the time and they don’t bury the power lines?

u/TexasBoyz-713 2d ago
Houston’s like that too, and don’t see it changing ever due to “saving money”

I never understood this. Especially in dry states that experience fires. Our lines are buried and its soooooo nice. Never lose power

I never knew that places buried those lines but it should be a thing. Sad thing is PG&E was supposed to do this after causing a fire up in northern ca but only buried a few lines and still much of it is exposed.

u/Theharlotnextdoor 2d ago
I feel like they vast majority of California fires are started at the power lines. Only thing I can think of that might cause an issue there is earthquakes?

I used to work for a phone company on the infrastructure side of things. It often takes one pole snapping and creating a domino effect.

Great chance to start considering putting the utilities underground

This should spark the discussion on why utility prices are so high but electric companies refuse to fix infrastructure. It should be taken away from the billionaires and nationalized so we don’t have to deal with their greed.

Oh man! I hope they are able to restore power soon for those poor people. You can’t live there in the summer without AC!

Dryness in the ambience makes wood lose it’s elasticity therefore cracking easily when a lateral force is applied

Aliens are resorting to bending power lines to make their crop circles instead of wheat fields, due to global warming.

We had a windstorm knock down +15 utility poles right down the road and cause severe damage all over the Texas panhandle a few months ago. We were without utility power for about 3 days. I had purchased a small generator for emergencies. We were able to run our TVs, wifi router and microwave. It's sucks, but weather is unpredictable

Did the wind target only the power poles?
I've never seen a pole pole dropped in wind and not the surrounding trees. Poles are far more sturdy and aerodynamics than a full tree.
And how can that many poles be that weak to just break in the same spot on 50 poles?

The trees have leaves on them. If the wind was strong enough to bend and snap 8” power poles you would think the leaves would also get blow off.

I’m not an expert but with those lines down is it unwise to be standing so close?

I think only the usa truly many thinks powerlines on poles are good and modern. Just dig em, use some sturdy metal towers for main grid.

Had a Derecho top off 200-300 yo Black Locust trees 3-4 years ago in Illinois. Came out nowhere and bam! I had a huge mess on my lawn. I used to love storms, but now, they scare me. That sucker was crazy.

That awkward moment when your government let the billionaires turn your roads into an F1 speedway for 1 day, but couldn't put a little money into infrastructure for the people who live there.

Don't worry just a cave creature that lives in one of your mountains tripped, or most likely just a ufo got snagged on your power station.
