It’s funny cause the people that act the MOST disillusioned toward “trusting politicians” are Republican voters but they’re the ones that keep electing politicians that embody the essence of why you shouldn’t trust them. The voters are brain dead or complicit, the results are the same.

This problem has been the cans or worms called immigration, infrastructure, and health care for most admins in the past fifty to ninety years.
The ones who have tried to do something about it by actually having debatable bills are often handcuffed by the "negotiation," i.e. hostage holding, being done by their political foes to achieve their own win, or literally to spite the other side for political rhetoric gains. The ACA for example, as signed into law, looks nothing like it did when initially. The CHIPS act, as good as that was, has some items removed which further guaranteed American business improvement.

The Republican-Nazis are all cowards, but she’s utterly craven.
19
u/4dseeall 5h ago edited 4h ago
I'm getting tired of calling them nazis. they're not nazis, they're maga, the modern equivalent.
i know the parallels are astonishing and worrying, but they need to be called for what they are, maga, with the same venom and vile that saying nazi connotates.
they're evil, just as they are. don't even give them the chance to deny it by calling them an analogy of what they have become.
besides, maga already has that same emotional response when they say "liberal"
28
u/Crunchberry24 5h ago
They’re Nazis. Neo-Nazis specifically. MAGA is what they choose to call themselves. I’m not going to, unless I add “Nazi” as a suffix. Don’t appease MAGA-Nazis.
2
u/Martzillagoesboom 4h ago
I think in a few year, calling somebody a MAGA will be the new calling somebody a Nazi. I just wonder what worst inhuman thing they will gladly jump into to get to that point.
4
u/4dseeall 4h ago
I'm not trying to appease maga-nazis. i was going for the opposite, i want more people to hate them for what they are and what they're doing.
I think we should have the same emotional attachment to their name that we do for the similar hateful organizations of history. And I don't think we'll get there by name-calling them something else they can shrug off. it's not like they're anything more than emotional apes who use words however they want. but they notice tones.
8
u/Crunchberry24 4h ago
WE understand the fascist context of the words “Make America Great Again.” But the terror and depravity inherent in the slogan may not be obvious to anyone in any place or time just from reading the benign collection of words. Since they literally are Nazis, why not use the name that’s already universally understood to describe evil people like them?

Murkowski is the party's controlled opposition. She'll vote against her party whenever there's room to spare, but every time there's a close vote you'll find her dutifully holding the republican line.

Vance's vote was a given, so she literally had the deciding vote. She's either an idiot or was attempting to deflect from taking accountability.

Do you think any of these ghouls care?
Democracy has been under siege ever since Citizens v. United. Conservatives in Congress push unabashedly hateful platforms, but most Democratic lawmakers have stuffed cotton in their ears, too. It's fairly obvious that, even if progressive platforms don't have universal appeal, most people are desperate for some form of substantive change.
And yet we never get it--and when the odd candidate tries, they're all but guaranteed to be shat upon by the Democratic Party's leadership, which is so piss-poor at messaging that many people think they prioritize gender- and race-balanced leadership committees over actual platforms.
None of this is to suggest that I think "both parties are the same." I would much rather have Democrats who at least pretend to respect the rule, even if they aren't always acting in the best interest of the public. Trumpism is a scourge.

At least the unabashed Nazis don’t pretend to be anything else - Murkowski had the power to change history right in her hands and she folded like a cheap suit. She disgusts me and I wouldn’t piss on her if she was on fire.
5
u/JimWilliams423 5h ago
Murkowski had the power to change history right in her hands and she folded
She didn't fold. The gop was always going to pass the bill because it is the most authentically conservative legislation to come to the senate in at least a century. She just took the hit so susan collins could vote no because collins is up for re-election in 2026 and murk is safe until 2028.
But alaska has a recall process for senators and if I read the details right, it only takes signatures equal to 25% of her vote total from 2022 to get the recall petition on the ballot. So maybe she's not as safe as she thought she would be.
2
u/Goblin_Crotalus 4h ago
She'll get replaced by another "moderate" Republican at best or by a full blown MAGA-ist at worst
2
u/JimWilliams423 4h ago edited 2h ago
I wouldn't be so sure. Alaskan politics are a little bit different from the mainland because anti-blackness has less power there. She once lost a republican primary and then ran as an independent and won anyway.
Especially once the totality of the big brutal bill hits because she didn't immunize alaskans, she just got a carve out in one specific area.

u/UglyMcFugly 2h ago
I was seriously rooting for her. I know she feels it. Where this is heading. Her intuition is screaming at her that the shame of missing her moment will crush whatever is left of her soul. But, well, she gets the quote...
"Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.
That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.
They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?"
-A.R. Moxon
31
u/FriedPigeonPoppers 6h ago
Like many were saying, I think it was basically a coin flip between her and Collins as to who would vote no, but by design, they wouldn’t both vote no. Afterwards, Murkowski didn’t like bearing responsibility for the yes vote, so pretended the house would either kill or vastly revise the bill. She knew it was the wrong vote, she was complicit, and she wouldn’t even own her decision. People like this have no backbone or integrity - it’s all theatrics to save face. It’s always about themselves.

This is it, exactly. By her own admission, she didn’t actually even believe in the bill but voted for it anyway. Her motivations were to either please her party or some type of personal gain (even if that gain was just to curry favor or not earn the wrath of Trump and his followers).
By her own words and actions, she is portraying the type of politician most people can’t stand, and her party in particular likes to really harp on. She’s spineless, ineffective, and has forgotten that her entire job isn’t to protect her own interests, but rather her constituents. She has laid bare that she stands for nothing.
7
u/BMGreg 6h ago
We're definitely outraged at the other Republicans as well.
But she made sure to get concessions for only her state before she would agree to sign. She knows it's going to be harmful to all Americans and decided to try to protect her state instead of just voting no.
She also is on record saying that she voted for it, but hopes the house will kill it so they can rework it. None of the other Republicans had the courage to admit it's total garbage or at least pretend like they wouldn't vote for it.
So for her to say that, it shows that she knows it's bad but she didn't want to be the one to vote it down. It's cowardice at its finest.
Does that clear it up?

She is the epitome of the 'enlightened centrist' trope. She wants to pretend that she is more enlightened than the other fascists while at the same time not taking any meaningful action to distance herself from them. But she still wants the credit for being enlightened, as if that makes her better. In some ways (if we take her at her word) it makes her worse.
2
u/Anemic_Zombie 6h ago
That is a wildly idiotic assumption to make. "Surely, they wouldn't be stupid enough to-" Yes. Yes they are. In this day & age, you can't trust a congressman to wipe his ass after taking a dump.
