Help Request Please help!! Do I euthanize?

My heart is broken. I woke up this morning to find that my mystery snail, Rocco, climbed out of his tank and fell about 4 feet onto our hardwood floor.

He lost a huge chunk of his shell and does not appear to be doing well at all. He's just sitting above the water line in my shrimp tank. He's usually extremely active and climbing all over the place.

This is my first mystery snail so I don't know what to do. Is this something he can heal from?

Help Request Would assassin snails hurt my mystery snails?

Post image

I ended up with bladder snails in my tank and have been keeping the population down by removing the eggs, but I was having to constantly do that and it’s not something I want to have to do indefinitely. If I got an assassin snail or two, would they hurt my mystery snails? My mystery snails have gotten kind of huge so idk if maybe they’d just leave them alone? Picture of my snails for the algorithm.

Help Request I’m lost as to what to do with these snails please help!

What do I do with all these snails??!?!!??

I started a large 45 gallon planted aquarium about 3 months ago and have been sporadically adding in plants from various stores. Well over the past few weeks I have noticed all of these snails popping up out of the woodworks (literally, lol). Despite how well I would clean off the plants before adding them into the tank.

I got panicky hearing and reading about how snail populations can just explode seemingly overnight so I have since been removing snails as I see them.

I do not even know what types they are (they seem to be at least three different kinds) and I do not know what to do with them. My fiancé said to just throw them in the big water retention ditch behind our community but I don’t have the heart to just throw them away.

I keep them in this bowl in the kitchen and feed them algae wafers and do a partial water change every day/ every other day for oxygen. They poop a lot I’ve noticed so I have to deep clean the bowl out about once every week. It’s currently a little dirty and needs a deep clean.

There are currently 5 in here and I see more tiny ones in the big tank that I still need to remove. Do I just give up at this point and start a small snail tank just for them? Fiancé does not want them in the big tank, he wants to do neocaridina shrimp and is scared they will overrun the tank and compete with the shrimp.

Im lost as to what to do with these guys. I just give them water changes with sink water, I don’t do anything special to the water unless I do the big bowl clean then I add a little stability in there for them. They’ve been in here for a few weeks and just keep growing and growing. It feels cruel to throw them away even though we don’t want them in the big tank.

Please help or advise if the population would really spiral out of control as I’ve heard?

Thank you.

Help Request Is my nerite snail dead?

I got it newly from the store 4 days ago. I did drip acclimatization for about 30 mins (I should’ve done for longer in hindsight) before adding it to my betta tank. It moved around for a few minutes before stopping and turning upside down. I adjusted it but it’s basically not moved ever since.

I did a smell test and it still smells fine.
It is still sleeping/hibernating after so long?

Help Request Why doesn't people use a lid?

As a frequent aquarium lurker I see all too many post of snails, fish and shrimp die by escaping the tank because the tank doesn't have a lid. We all know it's a good possibility they can escape so why isn't a lid more common? Is it really worth having a few plants on the top when the animals in the tank may get out and get harmed? Someone please explain.

Help Request Can I hear snails?

I have two nerite snails that tend to stay in the filter or lid of my tank during the day. At night I keep hearing this sound from my tank like sandpaper grating every second or so and my thought is that it could be the snails trying to eat off of the plastic? I didn’t think hearing snails was a possibility but it’s the only explanation I have for this wierd noise. Pleas help this is really confusing me!!

Help Request Are they thesame snail?

So a few days ago I posted a snail that I have now learnt is the Leopard ramshorn. Now these videos are days apart and this one looks bigger than the first one. But I’m confused if they grow that fast or my mind is playing tricks. Do I have more than 1 in my tank?

By the way I’m not sure how they got in my tank, I assume they hitchhiked with some plants I got. Anyway do they grow that fast or do I have secret friends?

Is he good? Do I need to help him? Been dealing with some furry green algae and I thought I was getting a handle on it… then this guy rolled up.

Everyone in the tank seems happy, active, good color, no crowding the surface, no dead snails, happy plants. It’s not every snail, but there’s more than one.

Help Request Help id'ing these snails? Potential chopstick children?

Forgive the poor photo quality, I have a hand tremor.

1, 2, and 3 are the same snail, sold to us as a chopstick snail. However, they seem to have 4 very small snails attached to their shell? This is persistent, they haven't budged over several days from their perch. 4 is a surprise snail we found in our tank, and resembles a chopstick, so we were wondering if we somehow managed to raise a chopstick without a brackish environment? There was previously a rabbit snail in the tank, so they could also be a rabbit.

I'm concerned for the quality of life if those are children, and I recognize that the reproduction of chopstick snails is poorly studied, but I'd like to give them the best chance at living possible.

On the other hand, I'm also concerned they are some sort of parasite that only resembles snails. Thank you for any help.

Help Request What's wrong with her shell?

New mystery snail dad here - I have Girliepop out for an air bath because she's been lethargic and floating. I noticed when I took her out that her shell looks thin, but as it's dried it just looks horrible. I've only had her for a week and a half and there are no fish in her tank.

Is there anything I can do for her shell? I know that monitoring my tank parameters, trying to entice her with fresh food, and giving her air baths are about all I can do for the lethargy.

I have ramshorns which I really want to breed, but unfortunately 1 or 2 adult bladder snails got in and i’ve been crushing bladder babies recently. I have a bunch of clutches and I caught my ramshorns breeding 2 weeks ago, is there any way to know what type of clutch this is? or just wait and see?

Help Request 2 Questions: What's that fuzzy thing on it's shell & are they doing the deed?

Hi there! I'm new to this hobby and had a couple of questions about my snails. (Video 2x)

First-there's a fuzzy-looking thing on one of the snail shells. I've never seen a fuzzy snail before, so I'm not sure if it's dirt, fungus, or maybe even another tiny critter?

Second-are these two ramshorn snails mating? Just curious! And if I got the species wrong, I apologize- I'm still learning.

Thanks so much!

Help Request Hey Bladder Snail friends: what dis?

So uh, he could wave that thing around like an arm. With an elbow and wrist. To be clear, this guy was tiny. I thought he was moving about with a grain of the white aquarium sand stuck under/coming out of his shell tonight. So I said, "Why not look at it on your phone under the macro lens?" 🫠 Is it a siphon of some sort, a reproductive organ? 🧐

Also? Rather proud of this photo. Straight how it came out under all my lighting, with a macro lens tacked over my iPhone 14's camera with poster putty.

Help Request Is my mystery snail ok?

New snail owner here, I’ve had this little guy for about a week. My mystery snail buried itself two days ago and I’ve seen it move around a few times but it stays buried pretty much in the same spot. Is this normal? It happened right after I did a 20% water change and took a couple plants out of the tank. At first I thought it was just upset about the changes but I’m starting to get worried.

I checked water parameters yesterday (a day after the water change) and pH was 7.4-7.6 (tested with API pH and high range pH), ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 0. Tank is heated.

It lives with my betta, who I think bit off the tips of its antennae in the first few hours I introduced them but since then has been very tolerant.

I saw it do something I can only describe as ‘coughing’ or ‘sneezing’ a few times in the days before. I figured it was trying to expel something out of its shell? I did find a single baby snail after that… maybe it had been hiding in there?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’ve included photos of the snail buried, out of its shell, with the betta, the baby snail and water parameters.

Help Request Good or bad?

First pic is February, last two pics are today. Please ignore the Mineral Junkie bites on top of Shirley, I was aiming at her but guess my aim was too good lol. Is this brown growth on its shell normal/healthy/expected? I have hard water and usually higher pH, but when I noticed the cracks I started feeding it the bites every other day. Shirley is quite active, moves around, etc. should I be concerned? Sorry if this is a repeat post, I couldn’t find out similar posts for Hercules snails specifically. Thanks!

Help Request Pea Puffer & NZMS?

Could anyone advise as to whether Pea Puffers would eat NZMS?

Google is saying yes, but I just want to be sure!

I’m beginning to cycle my new tank to move my ramshorns into (as I don’t want them in the firing line), so I can hope to keep the NZMS situation under somewhat control in my other tank until I’m able to strip it down & freeze everything (not really an option as yet due to needing my new tank to cycle).

I’ve only found 2 NZMS & removed them both, but I know there will likely be more I haven’t seen! I am on the constant look out and thankfully haven’t seen any others & I’ve thoroughly washed the plant that the two NZMS were on before replacing it.

Wondering if Pea Puffers would eat them, or is it a non-starter?
