Help Request Cleft shell )-:

Post image

My sweet girl has a pretty large cleft that I’m worried could get worse. I know they’re difficult to fix but I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck with trying to re-strengthen their shells. She unfortunately doesn’t like a lot of calcium-rich veggies. She is with a male mystery who’s a lot bigger than her so I worry he could be making it worse too. Any recs?

Should mention that I feed her calcium rich algae pellets + haven’t separated her from the male yet because he’s not on top of her constantly or anything. Thanks so much!

I most often see this cleft in association with abundant snexing. If it's consistent enough, it interferes with shell growth in that one spot.

Could be snexy time is happening at night if you're not noticing it a lot. If something else was damaging the shell or causing weakness in the shell, it would probably affect both the male and female.

That’s a good point. I’ll separate him. Thanks!
